Marking the history here of the Prince Frederick Public Library(the new Calvert County Library is a mile or two north of here) is this historical marker. It reads: Prince Frederick Library«Firsts» The west wing of this library was built in 1903 on Main Street as the County’s first bank. In 1913, it was replaced, moved and became the County’s first library; 1916 County’s first Boy Scout troop met there; 1921 it was Prince Frederick’s first high school; 1959 it was reorganized as a publicly supported library and in 1961 was moved to the present location. That west wing is known as the Duke Room for Judge Wm. W. Duke who founded the 1913 library and was Scoutmaster of the first troop.
