I just experienced the most uninformative, dismissive doctor’s visit in my life. My young son was recently treated for scabies(a skin mite) by his pediatrician. Due to the trouble in reaching an accurate diagnosis by the pediatrician’s practice, I was looking for a skin doctor who could provide some much needed information from an expert on a condition I had never heard of before. We were in the exam room for a total of no more than 2 minutes, during which time Dr. Sauder briefly examined my son’s bumpy skin and wrote 2 quick prescriptions for the itching. He began to leave the exam room without even asking if I had any questions. I was resigned to ask a question to his back as he was already walking out of the exam room. I had come to the visit prepared with several questions, so that I would get some answers from a skin expert about when I could expect the symptoms to fully subside and when/if I should be concerned if his symptoms returned. After answering briefly in the doorway, he turned and continued to leave the room not asking if there were any other concerns or questions. I immediately addressed him to say that I would have appreciated a little more of his time and attention after the daily suffering I had seen my son go through during the past 4 months. He replied that he felt he had dealt with all the relevant issues and had nothing more to add. I told him I would not be back, and he retorted, ‘Good, don’t come back.’ Unbelievable.
