Sonesta ES Suites

This was our second time staying at this Sonesta ES Suites and we look forward to returning. The rooms are great, the staff is terrific, and breakfast is delicious.

At Sonesta I got to stay in what was basically an apartment, with a full kitchen and living area. Why would anybody choose an ordinary hotel room over this? The prices are similar.
Breakfast at Sonesta was excellent too. They had a variety of hot and cold items. Far better than those lame continental breakfasts served by most hotels. Overall this was a perfect place to stay at during my visit to PPPL.
Beware that there’s another Sonesta ES Suites on the same side of Route 1 just a few minutes to the north of this Sonesta. I suffered a frustrating episode of disorientation and confusion because of it when trying to get back to my room one rainy night…

I have been looking for a nice getaway for the weekend. After looking around I have found this hotel. (thanks to orbitz)
The sonesta suites in Princeton.
First. The exterior and grounds are BEAUTIFUL.
And was greeted by amazing and generous staff.
Quickly checked into my room.
Room was so clean and comfortable. Everything looked so good and clean and well taken care of. The beds. Bath. Little kitchen. And nice big UHD TV screens.
Beds were so comfortable that we fell asleep within a few minutes :).
It’s a 5 star hotel in my opinion.
Awesome places to shop. And to eat

I’m recommending this to anyone looking for a real mini vacation.

— THIN walls/​floors/​ceilings so almost all sound is heard through the floor/​wall/​ceiling
— Housekeeping doesn’t seem to bother cleaning the bathroom sink, floor, mirror daily during their «light housekeeping» regimen.

I was pretty upset when I checked in at Sonesta yesterday. We booked a room for $ 99/​night. When I checked in, the staff member at the desk informed me that it would be an additional $ 75 for my dog. I was never quoted $ 75 for having a dog. I booked this hotel room a month ago and in my booking order, I stated that I had a dog. At that point, an email or phone call from Sonesta would have been appreciated so that I could have made other arrangements instead.
They claimed the fee was for a dog deep clean but we pay half that in the DC area for pet rent in an apartment for a MONTH. Our dog is a tiny miniature schnauzer who doesn’t even shed.
We stay in many, many dog-​friendly hotels and are usually charged $ 0-​$ 10/​night. When I informed the woman at the front desk of this, she scoffed and said «What hotel is that?!» and I explained to her that we’ve stayed at dog-​friendly Hyatts, Marriots, Alofts, Days Inns, etc and been charged NOWHERE near $ 75 a night. $ 10 is the maximum we have ever been charged.
We were in the area for a wedding. We drove 5 hours up to the hotel, had about an hour to check in and get ready for the wedding before we left. We had no time to cancel and rebook another dog-​friendly hotel. I am disappointed that no effort was made to remedy the situation. We left our room in pristine condition, I hope that Sonesta enjoys that extra $ 75 we gave them for no reason.

stayed for one night, it was so clean everything was perfect. The breakfast was blah guess that’s why it’s free didn’t expect a 5 star meal, but the hotel is beautiful, will return !

Nice staff. Relatively friendly.
Breakfast is decent, nothing special. The bacon was the best part.
TV’s are nice but no HD I don’t see the point in having these wide screens.
Not nearly enough towels in the bathroom.
What bothers me the most is the horrible wifi connection. It cuts out every 5 minutes. Incredibly annoying.
If I have to stay in New Jersey again I’m definitely trying another place to compare.

Great place to relax, was here on a business trip from l.a. stayed 3 weeks. Rooms are nice and comfy, 3 tvs. I was supposed to to get a one bedroom but since they were out they have me a two bed room. Kind of big when you are shine but it was chill switching rooms every weeks lol. Room service was awesome. Breakfast was a bit on the weak side. They use to have free beers but do to obvious reasons (economy) they don’t but they do sell beer $ 1 each. Pool was closed so that sucked. There is a small basketball court, they loan you the ball. I loved the fact that my job was across the freeway from this place so I was there in 4 minutes. Overall I really liked this place

Now, family and I are in town a few days for funeral arrangements. Normally I would have rated 4 stars. However, my fiancé and I were the first to arrive in the group today. Rest of my family wasn’t due in for 5 more hours. So he and I were having «fun time» while we could, next thing I kno I hear something. So I got up to see and I’m stark naked and there’s one of the house keepers standing in the door. I quickly tuck behind my open door n poke my head out, exclaiming, excuse me! As she continues stepping in, and sets a piece of paper on the end table! Now you would think that knowing the room was occupied they would not of walked in period and just slid the notice under door, like at ANY OTHER HOTEL I’VE STAYED AT (there is no «do not disturb» sign in the room, front desk delivered a magnet after I complained).
Well after being completely shocked and mortified, I read the notice, stating that between 8 am and 4 pm tomorrow, they would be replacing the thresholds in every suite in this unit and would need access to the suites to do so. Now, who in hell in their right minds would book people in a building they are doing work on! !? If it were one or two I could see, but they scheduled work on every suite! Wtf!
So I call the front desk, express my concern of the house keeping just barging in, catching me naked, and continuing to walk further in my room… rather than apologize, he asked me if the employee did anything to make me feel uncomfortable when that happened. Well besides all the obvious! Are you kidding me! Then ask about the work to be done on the room tomorrow, asked if we could move to another building, since a disturbance like that in general is absurd, never mind the fact that we are in town for a funeral/​arrangements. During our time of grief we don’t need to be intruded on when they shouldn’t of put us here anyway! The only thing they had available was on the third floor. My aunt cannot handle all those stairs. So we are stuck here. He did say after about 5 mins of discussion of these matters that he’d tell them to wait til friday to service our room.
With only a simple apology for the utter disregard to our privacy from his staff, I debated on checking into the double tree next door, however, we paid 370 for this room already. It’s not fair to us to have to move, and pay more money out of pocket at another hotel so we don’t have to worry about Intrusions. Absolute WORST customer service ever. I’m not impressed. He could of offered to refund our stay at the least.
Then I get sent to grab snacks. Well lo and behold, Irene At the front desk informs me that her boss did not order suggested inventory, so all they had to choose from was mentos and fudge — striped cookies. That’s it. That’s all. No vending machines or anything.
Overall I’m not happy at ALL with my stay, especially with all going on right now.
The rooms are fantastic set up tho. Ashame it’s poorly managed.

The hotel is on Rt 1, close to several labs and offices but not really next to anything. That’s not the hotel’s fault; that’s just how this part of NJ is structured.
I was surprised by how very old the interiors were; they’re in desperate need of an upgrade (which I’m told is going to happen in 2014 – my stay was in early 2014). But it was clean, simple, efficient.
Breakfast was surprisingly good (better than the typical US «continental» breakfast). Service was excellent.
On the day we left there was a heavy snowstorm, and the hotel had laid out hotel-​branded snow-​scrapers on the front desk, a very nice touch.
So, if you don’t mind a faded décor and out-​of-​the-​way plug points, it’s a very good, affordable choice (unless the price changes significantly after renovation).

Stayed here for 2 weeks while on business. The good: friendly staff, affordable, not too far from Princeton, free laundry facilities, free breakfast, and free appetizers/​happy hour beverages. The bad: limited food items during breakfast and also during social hour. Though I don’t expect much since it was free, the beer and wine were terrible. Housekeeping did an okay job, though at one point, I had to call them again because they did not do a good job at cleaning the room. Overall, an affordable place that seems to be family-​friendly, but could do better in their food selection —better choices should be available on a pay-​as-​you-​go basis.

*Went from a one star to a 5 b/​c I spoke with the manager and he made things right
*For $ 100 a night you need to absorb some corner cutting, the place was a war zone, complete remodel, my windows were visqueened and windows taped, the mgr moved me and took care of it, great service
*The bfast buffet is decent, lots of options, evening food isn’t really worth bothering with, the pool closed a week before I got there in mid sept too
*Fire alarms, construction noise all day every day I was there, workout machines weren’t all functioning but there is free laundry and again, the mgr Marcel made things right so kudos to him

We’ve stayed at Sonesta in the past 3 months on two occasions for a total of 14 days. The first visit was in April 2013 and the second was July 2013. On the second visit, after staying at Extended Stay America, once in South Brunswick, then 2 nights in Rutherford, my husband had enough and stayed on the phone with Sonesta to secure our last 6 days of our trip at Sonesta ES Princeton. At Extended Stay, outside of a guest paid washing machine and dryer facilities, and a nicely furnished room, it had nothing else to offer on the premises except a sidewalk around the parking, but there was an awful grap and go breakfast. When I asked for a gym, then jacuzzi, then community or breakfast area, I was told they don’t have it there. Extended Stay America, please learn from Sonesta.
At Sonesta, for guests they have free laundry facilities, jacuzzi, gym, swimming pool, basket court, business office and nicely landscape grounds for their guests to walk around in. The community room not only offers a very nice breakfast, but 4 days during the week, it offers a nice supper. On the weekends, they have staff man a BBQ grill and the staff will cook whatever you bring them. There is one maintenance man in particular if you happen to visit Sonesta ES Princeton, his name is Jay. He’s someone you’d like to hire to work for you because of good energy and attitude toward guests and his obvious love of the property. I rate Sonesta a five star because we’ve stayed at Marriott Residence Inn, Staybridge and Extended Stay; and Sonesta earns a five star!!! Staybridge is also good, but not as good as Sonesta.

Everything was great except for the rats in the garbage.
The good things:
* Easy to get on and off U. S 1 highway.
* Very friendly staff.
* Ample Parking.
* Good room lighting
* Quiet
The bad things:
* No HDTV.
* At night, you can hear the rats in the walls.
* The rats make it into the garbage under the sink (scary surprise!)
