We’ve been eating here for years with no issues… On that positive note, the chef is great and so is the sushi. However, huge disappointment in the service today. The woman taking my order was completely rude and pushy. To my surprise, she did not recognize me as a loyal customer for all those years! Or maybe she just didn’t give two f**ks. Upon ordering my food, she asked me a question that I couldn’t hear, so she repeated angrily. I witnessed another customer asking for spicy mayo, and the woman working the register shouted«one dollar!» A gentleman standing in line smiled and shook his head due to her improper response. I’m under the impression someone’s having a bad day, and I believe she needs to treat the customers a little more courteous. Respect goes both ways. I hate to do this but I’ll take my money elsewhere with less attitude. You know what they say… «If you can’t handle the heat, get out the kitchen.»

Great food for a great price. I get their lunch specials, which are really a deal. You can tell they care about quality. I got the Lunch Combo, Chicken Teriyaki, and was amazed by how much food I got for $ 10 flat!(Soup, salad, spring roll, rice, chicken, and a California roll).

Quite delicious for what it is. To truly enjoy this place, you have to accept that, like many other eateries in Princeton, it has

Solid but not fantastic sushi in Princeton. From what I understand the chef studied and worked in New York as well as Japan and has brought his vast knowledge to this small and unassuming shop in Princeton New Jersey. The portions and prices are a fair ratio and as far as flavor goes you will certainly not be disappointed because this is not basic«sushi mill» fare that is dime-a-dozen pretty much across the entire country at this point. They make a delicious chicken or pork Katsu and have a large(though not too large) menu of cooked food. Check out Tomo sushi, you’ve probably heard it if you live in the area and the good stuff you’ve heard is all true. Just don’t expect fancy ambiance, it kinda has a suburban Japanese feel to it ie. not Tokyo. Great choice for take-out.

I’ve only come to Tomo Sushi twice. The people who work are nice and friendly, but the food quality is not the best. There’s not really seating inside the restaurant, so normally people get it to go. I ordered a lunch special with chicken katsu. However, the katsu looks like several pieces of chicken nuggets, and they tasted bland and dry. The complementary katsu sauce smells very bad to me… it has a lot of spices that I don’t know of… the california rolls are just ordinary as well. Overall it’s just an affordable place to get sushi. Don’t expect the best quality though.

With so many great sushi joints in the area I wouldn’t waste my time here again. The best feature is their maki lunch special for $ 8. Got spicy salmon and california. Tasted fresh and were fine, but those are pretty hard to mess up. Very minimal inside seating, but I would never recommend eating here anyway since the workers are not nice in the slightest. My biggest reason for the low rating: most recently I’d placed my order over the phone and noticed only two packets of soy sauce in my to-go bag. I wanted a couple more packets for my rolls and there were none sitting on the counter, so I asked the guy behind the counter(very nicely) for more. His response, instead of handing me a couple of packets, was to bark«how many do you have already?» at me. EXCUSEME? I politely answered 2 and he audibly groaned and told me to hand HIM over a plastic cup that he would fill up behind the counter, and to hand him back my packets. At this point I’m already annoyed and asked if there would be a lid for this cup since I would be carrying the bag across town, and he practically flung a lid at me. Maybe there is a severe soy sauce shortage in Princeton that I’m unaware of, but I found that to be extremely rude and it left a bad taste in my mouth. When I met up with friends and recounted the story they laughed and said they’d had similar unpleasant experiences as well there. The lunch special was ok, but you can find better sushi and MUCH better service at just about any other sushi restaurant Princeton, of which there is no shortage.

If you can drive in 3 miles radius from this place you will find decent sushi. Only one table and two window seats. Plastic plates and utensils. Unfriendly service. Sushi and rolls about the same quality you will get from the grocery. I was wondering for a long time if its a good place but didn’t risk to try now i know that the place met my low expectations. Recommendation to business: do some house cleaning and provide good food.

Tried their Gyu Don and Oyako Don. The Gyu don was pretty good, but the beef was drenched in sauce, which made it a bit hard to tell how good the beef was since all you tasted was the sauce. The Oyako don was disappointing, the cabbage slices were a bit undercooked and the chicken was a tad dry. Not as good as the salmon teriyaki.

It’s been just over fourteen hours since my little furry paws stepped foot in Princeton, New Jersey and already there is so much to say about the food scene here. Unfortunately, none of it is good. After a very long, very rainy drive down from Cambridge, we were anxious to get checked in and make our way to TOMO Sushi. And yes, before any of my followers ask, my little paws spent time researching restaurants in the area. Tomo’s website looked promising, a wide selection of Japanese dishes and an amazing assortment of vegetarian rolls. Some reviews said the place was small. Um, hello? Small doesn’t even begin to describe this place. I hesitate to even call it a restaurant, because in order for that to happen you have to have more than one table. Yes, one table directly under the only counter. I’ve seen outhouses more spacious than this place, and perhaps cleaner. We took one look at this«hole in the wall» is being too generous and turned away. There was nothing inviting about the counter, and it looked very old and… how can I say this politely… not a place I would feel safe eating raw fish. Yes, I know that perhaps the food might have been good, just as I might have gotten food poisoning from the place. My point here is about appearances. And this place, no matter how hungry I was, couldn’t lure me in. Hell, I’m not sure they could have paid me to eat there. shatasdogbowl

This is great place for lunch. The maki lunch special(2 rolls + soup + salad for $ 8) is a great deal for sushi in Princeton. The unaju don and nabe yaki udon are also quite good. The food is very simple and fresh. If you want fancy, oily sauces, go elsewhere. There’s not a lot of space for sitting, so it’s better to get take-out. The sushi chef is very nice. The lady at the cash register isn’t overtly friendly, but I prefer this to being«fake-nice.» I’ve been coming here for 5 years and always had a positive experience.

Sushi is best I have had yet in NJ. From a sushi standpoint it is fantastic and worth the inconvenience of limited to no seating. Fresh, creative, delicious rolls.

honestly, its a good place to grab a quick bite. The food is nothing special, and the store is dingy, but if you are on the«far» side of princeton, this is a fine place to just grab lunch. last time I popped in because I was starving and didn’t want to walk all the way to either dining halls or the more busy parts of Nassau street If you come in entitled to good service, you’ll probably be disappointed. However, if you take the time to chat with the lady behind the counter, she’ll be really nice and you might actually enjoy yourself. Its a different service ethic. lunch specials are a-ok dont really recommend the gyoza

The extremely rude service makes you loose your appetite to begin with. The tuna was brown — obviously NOT fresh. We’re definitely not coming back!

This is the worst sushi place I have EVER been. To start, I called ahead of time for a pick up order because I had only a few minutes to grab and go. I even called 35 minutes before my pick up time to ensure that it would be ready. I get there and it’s not ready. When I told the woman behind the register that I was picking up an order I called in, she barked at me «What order?» I told her the Maki Lunch Special and she barked again«Yeah. What rolls?» I told her. She told the sushi chef to make it. I told her I called a half hour earlier to order it and she said«YESHEISMAKINGITRIGHTTHERE.» She was ridiculously rude and only after a few minutes realized that my order was sitting right on the counter already waiting for me. She shoved it in my direction. Her overall attitude was enough for me to never go back there again. When I got home, I opened my order to find the sushi rolls squished together and all falling apart. The soup was subpar and the salad was tiny. Worst of all, the tuna was a dark brown(the way old tuna looks). I know many other sushi places in the area that cost the same price for a 2 roll lunch special and they are very generous with their fish, salad and soup portions. Also, the place looked extremely dirty. Even if the service and food was great, I would never consider eating there.

Rude. Parking requires that you pay the meter. Asked the server for change for the meter and he said no. I said that I «planned to eat here» and he did not answer. I left based on that and the poor seating arrangements. I was dressed in professional attire. Unbelievable.

I went here with my SO for lunch. We got the lunch specials for sushi ahd sashimi and 2 bottled drinks(creamy melon soda and passionfruit tea). It came out to $ 27. Each of the lunch specials came with miso soup and ginger-dressed salad. These were not bad. The dressing was not too strong, which I liked, since I’m not a big fan of ginger. The miso soup was tasty. A good way to get the appetite stirring. Next, they brought out the sushi. I had a cali roll and 4 or 6 other pieces. They were not bad. Very typical sushi, but it tasted fresh(at least it didn’t taste bad). The sashimi lunch special came with a bowl of rice. The drinks were interesting. There were so many there that I wanted to try. TRy something new. This would be a nice place to regularly stop by if you are in the area to satisfy your sushi cravings.

I came here because I first heard it was a good price for sushi. I don’t think the prices are THAT good, but they’re not bad either. Most expensive item on the lunch special is the sashimi for $ 11(9 small pieces and comes with rice, a side salad, and miso soup). The fish was fresh, and I liked the grittiness in the wasabi. I also liked the yellow ginger(this says something, as I usually don’t eat ginger-pink or yellow). It has a focused kick, rather than staining your mouth with its pickledness. The miso soup wasn’t too salty and the dressing used on the ice berg lettuce was a different and better variation from other sushi places. This place isn’t remarkable in quantity or price, but I think the quality distinguishes it from others. In terms of ambiance, it’s rather modest. Very few seating. It’s better for take-out. But who wants to sit in on a nice spring day anyway, especially when Princeton has so many benches outside to people watch.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Tomo sushi for a quick bite before leaving Princeton. We were on a tight time schedule so we placed our order to go. My boyfriend paid $ 25 something for 2 orders of teriyaki chicken and one order of Crispy spicy shrimp tempura roll. We noticed right away that the food was a little pricey but we were in a rush and decided to just go with it. The man said our order would be ready in about 15 minutes and asked if we wanted to stay and wait or come back. We sat on the bench right outside and waited for our food. After 20 minutes or so, our food was ready. When we got in the car, I opened the smallest box of sushi to reveal only four pieces. For 6 or 7 dollars, this was certainly not expected. Sushi normally comes in at least 6 pieces per order. However it was good so that is where Tomo Sushi earns our one star. I opened the chicken teryaki and to our dismay, it was 6 or 7 pieces of what looked and tasted like boiled chicken medallions with a few slices of red pepper and three snap peas in a thin teryaki sauce. The container looked like leftovers as it was not even half full of food. For ten dollars this was very disappointing. It came with a side of rice and small side of iceberg lettuce. We are definitely not going to be visiting Tomo sushi ever again. Better chicken teryaki can be found at a mall food court for half the price.
