Castle Hill Resort and Spa

I got multiple bites on my faces and feet. I afraid these are bed bugs bites. It is difficult to manage bed bug in a hotel, but that’s no a excuse! I only hope they fix that problem. The service was good, but the breakfast was so so. High recommend crow bakery and opera house café for breakfast.

I loved staying here! We live in Maine so the drive was very nice! The castle and room were clean! Our room had a large soaker tub in it so that was a bonus! My husband and I booked Swedish massages in the spa and we really enjoyed them! Everyone was very friendly, they even offered us a tour of the facility! Very disappointed in the restaurant they have in the hotel! The food was not hot and even though their was huge portions it was nice appetizing. I wish we had eaten somewhere else. We would come back to the hotel!

I came here with my fiancée for Valentines Day weekend. We needed a simple quick trip to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC and what better then the snowy mountain scape of Vermont.
Since it was valentines weekend I inquired about the anniversary package they offered. It wasn’t available at the moment, but the staff and management made it available at my request. The package included champagne and chocolate covered strawberries upon arrival, a couples massage and 3 course diner.
The room itself was very spacious and the old world feel was to die for. Our windows overlooked the car park and the spa house can be seen in the distance. The bathroom had a large cast iron standing tub. The only issues I had was that the door knobs stuck or had to be turned a specific way to open and the tub/​shower was hard to get into due to it’s height. My fiancée who isn’t tall had the most issues getting in and out.
The actual hotel itself used to be a mansion before it was converted over. Everything inside is original and is well maintained except for a few cracked walls. Upon entering through the driveway over hang you are greeted by the concierge. Beyond that is a grand piano that is played by a local musician at dinner time. Also for those who just want to listen there is a small study room just next to it.
Our room itself was 3 floors up and unfortunately due to the buildings age the 100 year old elevator isn’t in use anymore so we had to carry our bags up the 3 flights of stairs. Otherwise I saw it as a welcomed and well needed exercise.
So our package included the spa which unfortunately due to the comfy bed we ended up sleeping in and showing up 10 minutes late to our appointment. Since it was a holiday weekend they couldn’t push the massages without effecting other customers. Just outside the spa if you were brave enough you could have taken a dip in the heated pool and Jacuzzi.
Our package also had the 3 course dinner. Since it was valentines day we had the option to chose from a specially made valentines day menu for a small fee on top of the package dinner. We both opted for the normal menu which is small but contains a variety of options for everyone. I chose the shrimp for my appetizer, the new England clam corn chowder and the beef wellington. All of the food was delicious, perfectly seasoned and the flavor was to die for.
Overall even with the slight flaws with the room the experience was amazing and it was a well deserved time off. Even though the weekend was bitter the room stayed the perfect temperature. Will definitely return for a spring or summer excursion next time.

I came here to celebrate Valentine’s Day and booked their anniversary special.
We had room #11 and it was a spacious, beautiful and spectacular room. I loved the décor of the very simple, rustic home style to the standing bathtub.
Being from New York, our suite seems HUGE. A big room with a couch, and two love seats. The bathroom is attached to a walkin closet. I guess the best way to describe the room would be what Carrie had in Sex and the City. The bathroom in our suite is bigger than my teeny apartment in NYC.
Needless to say, I loved how much room my fiancé and I had!
Our package came with two massages and a dinner. We were too comfy and ended up being 10 minutes late to our massage. They were booked back to back and couldn’t give us our minutes back :(
I didn’t like how they only had one lock left for the spa though. The lockers were barely enough to fit one persons belongings let alone two peoples !!
Please note the spa is NOT in the hotel, it is across in a house beside the heated pool. So we had our coats, hats and layers of clothing on when we showed up. It didn’t help that we went during the coldest weekend Vermont ever had this winter…
Moving onto the dinner. The restaurant iS in the hotel and it was very romantic. We chose from their regular menu and had the most delicious food!
I started off with escargot and it was wonderful. The buttery sauce just melts in my mouth. I would say it’s probably the best escargot I ever had.
My second course was perhaps my favorite. I had the cold beer salad and it was delightfully refreshing. I loved all of components in the salad. I honestly wanted to order one more and eat it upstairs later!
My main course was the lobster with steak. Yum yum yum. It was honestly such a large entrée that I could only eat ¹⁄₃. Trust me, I never not finish lobster!
We shared a dainty little chocolate dessert that was the perfect balance of bitter and sweet. They added two large chocolate covered strawberries too!
Well, I will definitely come back and try out their heated pool. I really want to give the hotel 5 stars but unfortunately, we had some issues with the heater (either too hot or it won’t turn on) and the water pressure is not the best. There is no elevator and it did take some time getting to the third floor with a huge suitcase…

With thanks to everyone who’s reviewed, I will say simply: we, too, were lured by the $ 89/​night Groupon and the FALSE ADVERTISING photos online. I was pretty upset, because although the photos made it look really nice, The Pointe Hotel, as others have noted, is in fact a slightly dolled up version of a roadside motel with a few nice touches like the indoor pool (too small to do any sort of real lap swims) and the jacuzzi (nice and warm but left a ridiculous white soapy foam all over me… strange!) Yes, there is coffee in the lobby which was appreciated but it ran out quickly on Sunday morning. When I tried to get some writing done in the leather chairs in the lobby there was some sort of business meeting going on that made it impossible to concentrate. i.e. there are no common areas to go here except one’s room. As reviewed, the beds were AWFUL and I had nearly no sleep the first night (ended up BACKWARDS in the other queen bed the second night. Comical! Not to mention unromantic!) Not to be snooty, but I grew up in NYC and have travelled extensively, and trust me, the Castle (separate from the Pointe «motel») is nothing special. Décor too dark, imported intern hostess barely spoke English and had no training in hospitality, meals wildly over priced ($ 50 per person easily… this is not Paris, people!) I was extremely disappointed by this place, which nearly wrecked a brief vacation but for the fun things to do and see in the nearby towns. Worst of all: bizarrely rude front desk person («Elena»…she spoke with an accent… what’s with the Euro staff here?) took our reservation but was beyond rude (when I asked her for an email confirmation she replied in an edgy tone «well, I guess I’ll need an email address from you for that.» Ya think? Of course, the confirmation email never arrived… skip the breakfasts in either location and go to the Crows Nest Bakery. Skip the hotel altogether and stay at the DeerBrook Inn in West Woodstock… my cousin’s the owner and next time I’ll just stay there!

The castle and the grounds are beautiful but the staff don’t meet expectations of such a grand place starting w the hostess at the castle who was aloof and not helpful. Dinner there was mediocre. It was not fresh and the combinations were strange. For example, they served mashed potatoes and gnocchi with the chicken. The highlight of our stay was Amy, our server at dinner. She was not only a great server but she was incredibly helpful for local sites to visit. We are thankful for her. Sleeping the condos: they need a new bed and new pillows. I have a crick in my neck just writing this

Love this place it’s Full of rich history and beautiful architecture and decorations, the wallpaper that he is in the main hall is original and from 1905 if your history geek or just love beautiful romantic places this one’s for you I’ve stayed here four times already and intend fully on staying each and every room in the castle I guess you could say it’s my bucket list so far I’ve stayed in rooms 4,7,8 & 12 (our friends stayed and 11 so we also got to see that beautiful room) love the outdoor heated pool & Hot tub (and anytime it’s raining you could always go down to the point and use their swimming facility) The Spa was a stable way back & beautifully manicured and maintained grounds & the Chef is top notch and ever so Accommodating even to a food pain in the butt like myself all the staff members there are very helpful knowledgeable of the area and always have a smile I really love this place my heart is there, I feel like I’m the queen every time I’m in the Castle. Also wanted to add a side note that they just got new carpeting and redid the sitting room with new furniture new drapes just lovely upgrades

Spectacular stay
We are celebrating our first wedding anniversary and we discover that splendid castell front the beginning if the century in Cavendish vermont

We did go on a Groupon and for that price we would return. Check-​in was quick and easy and available early when I called on my way. I found the hotel to be clean and well kept. The treat is when you go up to the actual mansion, it is really beautiful. We had cocktails in the library and on the patio of the mansion and it was a nice atmosphere. I had a fabulous massage at the spa. Dinner in the mansion was delicious and again I really liked the atmosphere, the service was great and the piano player adds a nice elegant touch. All and all the hotel is just that a hotel but the mansion is the big plus.

Loved this place! Stayed in a 2 bedroom condo for 3 days. The condo was beautiful!
Staff was very friendly, pool was nice and clean and the aveda spa is very nice!
Restaurants were excellent!

Don’t be fooled by the photos of The Point Hotel. This Hotel is NOTHING like the Castle Hill Resort and Spa. It is merely down the hill from this beautiful mansion. It has the look and feel of a roadside motel. It has an indoor pool and hot tub, coffee in the room and lobby, and a vending/​ice machine area, but that’s where the amenities stop. The is NOTHING resort-​like to be found here. There is no in-​room food service. The rooms are okay, but nothing fancy. The suites come with a full kitchen, so that is probably the way to go. The front desk personnel were friendly, but, with one exception, none of them were knowledgable about the area or things to do. The coffee area in the lobby was unkempt and the coffee, creamers, cups, etc., were in short supply. We were given a room with a king bed and two bunk bed upon our arrival, contrary to our paid reservation for 2 queen beds. After we complained to the manager, a room opened up next to the exit. It was noisy. WiFi is only free in the lobby.
Pointe Hotel guests have spa privileges at The Castle Hill Spa, but unless you book well in advance, you won’t be able to enjoy any of the spa treatments. There is a gorgeous outdoor salt water pool and hot tub, but no food or beverage service for the pool area. The outdoor pool closes at 7:45 PM. The spa has showers, but only one shower has shampoo and soap. Body lotion, combs, hair spray, etc., that one would expect at a high priced spa are non-​existent. Yoga and pilates classes are available on a very limited basis and cost $ 15 to attend.
The Castle Hotel is truly beautiful and the food at dinner was excellent, as was the service. There’s live music (piano) in the library where one can enjoy a cocktail prior to dining. The music wafts over to the dining areas, making for a delightful accompaniment to the delicious meal. One can also enjoy cocktails or dessert out on the veranda, overlooking the mountains.
I would go back to The Castle Spa and Resort, but I would NEVER stay at The Point Hotel. If one is traveling to Vermont on a budget, find a deal at Okemo Mountain Resort instead. That is a real resort. The Point Hotel is a glorified Do Drop Inn.

Stayed at the Castle during snowboarding season as a birthday gift for a significant other. I was very impressed! The hot pool/​jacuzzi was definitely the cherry on top after a long day of exercise. Their spa was amazing as well! The rooms were great and really gave you the feel of being in a castle. The only downside of the experience was that they didn’t allow to use the fireplace in the room (safety precaution, I get it). Next time I go to VT, this will definitely be the hotel I use!

I went to the Aveda Spa for a gel manicure, regular pedicure, and lower leg waxing 2 days before my wedding, on Thursday morning May 22, 2014 at 10am. I do not remember of the associate’s name who assisted me while there, but she was very nice and thorough and knowledgeable, and as we got to talking she mentioned she was getting married later in 2014 which of course I was so happy to hear! She was spectacular! My nails lasted for about 3 – 3.5 weeks, my toes a bit longer. There were a few missed spots on my legs but that was okay I just did not want to have to be shaving constantly while in Montréal the following week. I do also recall that it was a bit of a long walk up a hill to the spa from the main parking area down below, so I exacerbated my sprained ankle at the time (my own fault for moving furniture into a new apartment about 2 weeks before the wedding-​I don’t recommend that). I hope to go back again and try the pool next time as it is heated too!
As for the restaurant and the hotel, haven’t eaten or stayed at either yet but we go up every summer in July so we may at some point. Our family friends went to the restaurant for their one year wedding anniversary about 4 years back and they said the food was great.
I saw someone’s recent review that was disappointed in lack of cell service here… um, it’s Vermont, that’s kind of the point of getting away you know? I find it liberating! Despite this, cell reception has gotten better in the Ludlow/​Okemo region the last few years, I have Verizon and I’ve noticed now it’s really really tough to completely remove your cell off the grid as of 2015.

We are at the Castle now, the meal was fabulous! Mussels to die for and lamb tender and so flavorful. The room are a good size and decorated with the castle theme, very tasteful. Stairs and no elevator is a issue, but the people working here are so helpful and sweet. I read so bad reviews and was skeptical but am so pleasantly surprised !

The Hotel
We stayed at the castle. It was built in 1901. Most is original, including the wall thickness. We stayed in Room 6, at the end of the hall. King size bed and jacuzzi tub. FYI, there’s no shower. Yep. Sure would be good to tell someone prior to checking in, wouldn’t it?! We could hear every single person in the hall, upstairs, downstairs, and outside. Plus there’s lots of noise from the road. We got an incredible deal to stay here so we can’t really complain. Next time, I’d stay in a room with a shower.
I wouldn’t stay at the hotel part– it looked just like a Motel6.
The Spa
I’d go back. NO question. The staff was sweet and nice, the massage was one of the best I’ve ever had, and it was a quick walk across the parking lot from the castle. The pool is heated, but be aware it’s saltwater. The hot tub is quite warm but the jets don’t work. They don’t have tea or any fruit/​snacks, which is odd for a spa, and you have to ask for bottled water. They have locker rooms but you have to ask for shampoo/​conditioner/​soap from the front desk. We had a coupon for two services but you can’t combine them, even though when I booked the girl told me I could. Fortunately, the manager was there so she kinda made it work.
The Restaurant
I would not go back. We were terribly disappointed. The staff is great, the wines are very good (Sterling is their house wine brand), but we are convinced their food is frozen and just reheated. So sad…

I really enjoyed my experience here and would definitely return.

I received a Gourmet Getaway as a birthday gift. This includes a meal in the Castle’s restaurant and an overnight stay at the Castle for 2.
The service was EXCELLENT! Note that you must stop at the Pointe hotel to check in, as well as, turn in the key at the end of your stay. Check in is 3 pm and check out 11 am. For the Castle, it’s a REAL metal key! (When was the last time you had one of those, eh???)
Yes, the restaurant is very expensive. That said, the dinner I ate was the best food I’d EVER eaten. The Gourmet Getaway is a 3-​course meal. So, you have your choice among an appetizer, soup/​salad, entrée and dessert. The crème brûlée was very eggy, so it wasn’t the tastiest. The rack of lamb was amazing! Just get it…
Not all the bathrooms have both a tub and shower; many are either/​or. Room 4 not only has both, but it also has a jetted tub. Very nice! The shower, though, didn’t have much pressure. That was unfortunate.
The room was beautifully appointed with period furniture and was large. A Keurig machine and a flat screen TV was in the room. Another room on that floor also had a small, dorm-​sized refrigerator. My room was air conditioned and had a fireplace.
I want to return! There is a baby grand piano in the library and guests may play it. I could go on, but I think you get the gist!

It was a pretty decent spot with a king suite and queen bed but the Pointe didn’t have the scenery that I really envisioned staying in VT and driving 4 hours. Definitely do your research! But it was a great last-​minute groupon trip with some ladies. The kitchen was a nice touch but I don’t think I would spend $ 150 a night given the location wasn’t really ideal. We thought the castle would be closer to The Pointe where we were staying.
What really lifted and peaked my interest was the yoga session at the solarium near the gorgeous outdoor pool.
Generally, they charged 10 bucks to use the pool only if you’re staying at the Pointe, I believe… But we paid for the yoga instead and got a small glimpse of the pool. Great scenery and definitely think that would be great for a family!
The hotel was VERY clean though, and the breakfast at the castle was not as bad as people said… But, I would see why people would rather go into town and have a VT experience.
I can’t really say I would recommend it based on the location, since Woodstock or some other towns would have been fine as well, and lots more to do. But, if you’re visiting the nearby ski mountain, definitely think about it if there is a good deal.

I want to preface this review by saying THANK YOU Living Social! I had the pleasure of staying at the Pointe Hotel Castle Hill Resort and Spa during one of the best times to visit Vermont. The view from this amazing resort is breathtaking! I woke up just as the sun was rising over the mountains, striking the low-​lying fog that had settled over, and creating a brilliant and eerie scene that I thought was only possible in the movies. What a way to start off the morning indeed! The Pointe Hotel is quite simply one of the best hotels I have stayed in. It’s elegant, quaint, clean, and modern all at the same time. The room is beautifully appointed, with a mini-​fridge and Keurig coffee maker in each room. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is sparkly clean. And they use genuine Aveda salon products for toiletries.
There is an indoor pool and hot tub open year round, aside from the awesome spa just up the hill, for patrons to use. A game room is near the entrance with a pool table and some arcade games. I have to admit I was playing some Tokyo Drift for old times sake. I did not try the spa but I heard from others staying that it was divine. The one restaurant in the resort was the only disappointment. Ridiculously overpriced ($ 9.99 per person for breakfast that only included some bagels, pastries, and scrambled egg! WTF!) Aside from this the rest of the stay was amazing. I would definitely come back again especially if Living Social has another $ 79 per night offer like the one I used. Even if they don’t I would gladly pay the regular amount for another memorable stay.

The hotel isn’t going to make a huge impression, but it’s nice enough and comfortable. Our room had double queen beds, air conditioning and a Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom is nothing special, but they stock Aveda shampoo and conditioner. Whatever the hotel is lacking in accommodations it makes up in location, about a 5 minute drive to Ludlow.
I went up to the Castle and hung out by the outdoor pool for a few hours, it was empty at first but eventually people trickled in slowly. You have to sign in with the spa to take out towels, which is annoying and unnecessary.
We got a deal on Groupon for about $ 100 a night with a credit for dinner which we didn’t wind up using since you were required to order a 3 course meal with a minimum purchase of $ 100.
The best feature of the hotel is that it’s pet friendly!
