I am really surprised I have never reviewed Hot Breads. I have been here countless times over the years… so long I can’t even remember how long ago — I remember when it was shiny new and was all the rage. So, I’ve been a regular — it’s established. I have also recommended this place to countless people because of their huge variety of options for a desi chat house /bakery. I went in last week to get some of the tea cookies the always have only to find the place looking empty. They stopped making cookies – bummer. As with every other desi place… over the years, no matter how much they remodel and move things around — they end up yucky and gross. True for hot breads too. Not a sexy place to sit, sticky here and there and when it’s full its ugly. But on the positive side – you can get decent chats, samosas, dosa, and some hyderabadi non veg flair. The highlight of this place was and i guess minus the cookies… still is the baked goods. On the left youll find the savory pastries which are so good… chicken tikka bun and veg pastry are two that I like. and on the right under whaat used to be the cookies(BRINGBACKTHECOOKIES!!) are the thing everyone goes for which are the pasteries. Basically similar to Italian cakes with whipped cream or truffle frostings and or fruit. Pistacciio, pinapple, black forest and truffle are the favorites with a hot styrofoam cup of chai… ahhhh(you have to make that sound when you drink chai. just gotta). Minus a few stars for cleanliness and appearance, staff could be much nicer like they used to be(not kinda desi aunty style.“kya” attitude), and parking is dodgy. Make sure to take home some eggless pau and plum cake.

Horrible food. We ordered a Chicken biriyani and Chilli Chicken. Then biriyani was average and eatable. The Chilli Chicken had 2 kinds of meat in it, they have mixed Chicken 65 with Chilli Chicken!!! The smell itself was horrible. Eat at your own risk.

Don’t know why this place or the«name» is so popular among Indians. Even their cakes are nothing great but yeah for«eggless» vegetarians it works. Most of the pastries in the shop taste awful and stale. The place is usually not kept so clean including the tables and the floor. Menu– Veggie biryani is so normal, so are all the veggie entrees(plain oily with no flavor). What is good is the gobi manchurian and chilli paneer. Overall, portions are small for all dishes. Tip– Order ahead of time to avoid long wait time. Avoid dining at the broken table(s).

Dont expect any frills but this place has consistently delicious authentic food. I have neen searching for a good less formal indian joint for a while and at last i stumbled upon this place. My favorite Indian place in the northwestern suburbs!

I don’t und why this place has such average reviews. I have been here twice and I really liked everything I have tasted so far. Idli sambhar, samosa chat, pani puri, baghare baigan, pav bhaji, daal, chapati, all were good. And it is also very reasonably priced. It is very popular n gets crowded easily. They play nice Bollywood music on the Tv. Nice entertainment with a delicious Indian meal. The only minus for me is the styrofoam plates. Maybe an excellent place for takeouts.

The food is delicious no doubt. It would be wonderful however if the staff was a little more helpful explaining items on the menu or making suggestions.

Probably closer to a 3.5. Menu is pretty extensive so some of the items are a hit or miss. I’ve tried quite a few things here. My favs are the Pav Bhaji, Chole Batura and the chat items. The dosas are ok but the sambar isn’t all that. I’ve also tried the Chicken and Veg Biriyani which wasn’t too bad. I like that they serve it with a raitha and gravy which is similar to some South Indian varieties of the dish. I tried one of the desserts(black forest cake) which wasn’t that great. I still go here often mainly because the prices are pretty reasonable and the portions are generous.

Good food for takeaway but not to dine in. Some kind of insects flying around. Really bad service. Cashier doing all sort of thing with his hands and then serving your food. They need to take a look to basic hygiene rules.

Go there only if you have no other options! Food is alright but the place is dirty, tables are never clean and service is not satisfactory. There’s a lady who takes order, she acts as if she is doing us a favour by taking our orders! «Hello lady(whatever your name is) if you haven’t noticed, we are paying for the food, it’s not free of cost right!!! so watch your attitude». Else there a good chance of losing customers.

I’m new to the Indian scene, but this place was not good. Very slow service and I can make better food at home. Not worth the trip.(Naan was pretty good though)

Will update when i have some other places to compare. Other than that, this place seems over priced to me. The naan was good but the chicken curry was mediocre. It was also 80% bone and basically no meat. The desserts they had in the display case seemed limited. Also, the website listed on the Unilocal page may be for the same company but the menu is not the same. They have no sandwiches or wraps.

I used to frequest their location on Golf Road before I moved out of Illinois, this location on elhmhurst Rd is fairly big and had lot of seating . We got their vegetable & chicken tikka puffs and Gobi Manchurian . Puffs were awful, both fillings were bland and much too flaky . Gobi Manchurian was too good with crunchy gobi and the sauces were spicy and sweet. Prices were pretty decent and the service was super quick. Overall a great little spot for grabbing something quick when craving indian snacks.

This place brought back my respect for Indian food!!! I usually get the take out and they know how to do it right!!! Goat is top notch! This is one of those places where you must go after a wild Saturday night. Everything is cooked to order, always fresh and tasty.

This restaurant is a great value, and the food is superior to most«fine» dining Indian restaurants in Chicagoland. The vegetarian food deserves 4 stars, whereas the meat entrees(they do have goat, which is a plus) is more like 3 stars. What is consistent across their offerings is that food is hot and fresh since it’s made to order. The flavors are mostly authentic, and while the quality of meats aren’t anything to write home about, they are serviceable(sure beats typical national fast food chains’ meat quality). I would give the service 3.5 stars as well. It’s efficient, and they are accommodating, although it would take an act of congress to get a smile during the ordering process :) It’s all business… No frills! It’s really the superior value the restaurant offers that warrants a 4 star rating. The variety is also impressive, and should be mentioned. Not every Indian restaurant in the U.S. will offer a decent dosa selection alongside goat biriyani and other classic Indian entrees. Do note that even though it has a fast food feel, the food does take a bit to arrive since it’s cooked to order. There is no table service, but counter self serve instead.

This is very different Indian cuisine from normally what you see from other Indian restaurants Dosas and chats here are best in town. Overall — great authentic tasty food — quick and casual fast food kind of a restaurant –Price is very reasonable — service is poor. The lady in the counter is very unfriendly with thick Indian accent. — cleanliness is very poor — recommend for To-GO food instead of dinning in

Ha, I thought it was a bakery. Indian lunch! Hot breads is awesome. There are a ton of very unique foods to eat here, as it is a distinct region of India that their foods are based on. Folks who know the culture can explain it better than I would normally, but the end result is really, really simple: The food here is very different, in a good way. The only other place I know of that does chaats is Udupi Palace on Devon, but their cooking is a little bit bland. They have a chili pakoda which I absolutely love, and overall the food is delicious. Go here and explore the menu! Food is inexpensive, and service is very polite. They do take out/delivery in addition to their extensive menu. Chaats, for the uninitiated are basically street vendor food. They have a few unique ones that are shaped like a little flour bowl with liquids inside — and are delicious. It’s hard to describe because the food is literally an unknown to me prior to this place. This is an explicitly different type of indian cuisine than any other place in the surrounding area.
