I was on a trip to go camping while passing through this town. This place wan in food network and my friends wanted to stop by there to get some meat. I have never been here and was excited to give it a shot. This town is so small and this place looked so vintage like I was excited to go in. When I came inside it was just filled with meaty goodness. There were burgers, sausages, brats, mini links, cured meats, and just about anything else meat you can think of. For a small town and how small this place was it was packed. It must be very popular because I can see people from other town near by coming here for the meat. I packed a ton of meat and went to check out. My total rang up to $ 23 and I had like 10lb of food, so what did I do? I said hold on and grabbed 5lb more of these mini sausage links. For the price that was there I couldn’t resist but to stock up. Anyways, long story short we grilled a bunch of the food and it was delicious. Sausages were popping with yummy goodness. Everything tasted like quality meat. My first experience at a meat locker and a good one!

I just love their re-structured bacon(breakfast strips) I think it fries up easier than bacon(no curling and splattering). The staff at Polashek’s is friendly and helpful. Go on Saturdays when they have free samples! We discovered this place from a friend of ours who grew up around Protivin and suggested we «Czech» them out. It’s the only place I know of where I can get jaternice(a sausage very similar to the«oatmeal sausage» my grandfather made) About every 6 months a group of us makes a trip down from Rochester to purchase their awesome products. Keep up the good work Polashek’s!

located in the small Iowa town of Protivin, this place is a hidden gem. Famous for their Jaternice, which is awesome! Also enjoyed their head cheese. Will definately make a trip back this Spring.

I learned about this place from the Travel Channel. They make the most fantastic jaternice(a Czech sausage which includes pork tongue, pork snouts, barley, etc.). It’s a crumbly product that you can cook in the morning with scrambled eggs, enjoy in a gravy, and so forth. The flavor and consistency is awesome! I also bought some pork and apple brats that were quite tasty. The snacking sticks made with beef, jalapeño, and pepper jack cheese were top quality, too. The meat locker is just a couple of minutes away from Bohemian creek — a great place to trout fish and primitive camp. I’ll be back for sure this year! Check out this place when you are near Cresco and Spillville. You’ll be glad you did!
