I had high hopes for Chilangos but my food was lacking in both seasoning and care. We ordered the veggie app special which was essentially jullianed veggies placed in a deep fried pastry cup. However, the pastry cup was not fresh and had the texture of deep fried dough that has been left out for hours. Not ideal. Our main courses were creative and tasty, but my tortilla soup was desperately crying out for more seasoning. Our waitress was quiet but pleasant. But we sat there for 20 minutes without drinks and had to remind her of our drink order once we pointed it out. Maybe I went on an off-night, it was quite dead when we ate there. Because of the creative menu, decent prices and other great reviews I would be willing to give Chilangos a second chance.

This place is great! Food was delicious, drinks were delicious, and staff was very friendly and attentive. Only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the area and parking but everything else makes up for that. We will be back for sure.

Tried this place on the recommendation of my daughter. Will definitely return! Small pleasant space. Courteous and very helpful service. I tried Pollo en Mole Verde, one of the so-called small plates. Excellent choice which was so not small that I was able to share. Others in our party tried a variety of tacos as well as Quesadilla de Tingo. Everyone tasted everything and we left happy. As a nice bonus, when all of us ordered the house margarita our server(owner?) suggested a pitcher, which at an additional overall $ 3 provided us all with a second glass.

Literally love this place. my all time favorite Mexican place in providence. I’ve been there about 3 – 4 times this semester and have not had a bad experience yet. Went for our friends birthday about a month ago and had an amazing time. nachos are a good size shareable between 2 – 3 people, so not huge. Best margaritas I’ve ever had! Home made at the bar with authentic, real ingredients. you can’t go wrong with the mango! Our food came in a timely manor considering there were 14 of us! The service was amazing and the staff is so nice. Real deal, authentic Mexican food with fresh ingredients and a wide range of choices for meat. Free tequila shots for birthdays! Definitely going again before the semester is over.

This is a cute Mexican restaurant with a modern twist. They have a lot of authentic options on the menu, as well as some interesting interpretations. The margaritas were good and the staff was very friendly!

I LOVETHISPLACE. This is not street-style mexican food– but it still totally the real-deal. You can get awesome simple street-style tacos(ie not a lot else but tasty meat). My favorite being the mixed meat tacos. My favorite dishes are the chocolate mole(enmoladas) and the green mole– both the small and large plate of the green are really fresh and delicious tasting!

Go eat the mixed tacos! I get them almost every week before heading to school at RIC. They recently remodeled the place and though I miss the old décor, the food is still on point. If you are up for it they also have one of the best house margaritas around!

The service was wonderful, the guacamole was delicious, and the mango margaritas were yummy and strong. The actual meal though was just okay. Nothing really stood out and the menu didn’t have enough options for me to explore.

Eh I was not nearly as impressed as the previous reviewers. Maybe my expectations were too high given everybody else’s rave reviews… This place is really not very vegetarian friendly. The bean and veggie options were fairly bland, and mostly deep fried/covered in cheese. My carnivorous friends got adventurous with the lengua and seemed pretty pleased. The mango margaritas were pretty tasty so that was a big plus!

Good spot. Very reasonable prices. We did several different appetizers. Lots of different meat to pick from line pork, chicken, or brisket. Not many Mexican places have this type of selection. Only thing I didn’t like is the restaurant itself. It was small, quiet, and cold. The door kept opening and a gust of cold air would rush in. But the food is better than most Mexican restaurants.

Okay, I know I’m late to the Chilango’s fan club party with this one but, where did the saddles go?! Oh my gosh, what a different space this restaurant has evolved into. What once was similar in décor to the many other Mexican spots in this area of Providence has become a very intimate and trendy space. When I first walked in last Saturday night, eager to impress my date who I had raved about Chilango’s to many a times, I was skeptical indeed. Was this going to be the same place I loved so much a few years back? Thank goodness it was! The food is still fan-freaking-tastic, it just has more flair on a nicer looking menu. The tacos al pastor still have the most delicious pork filling and tortas just as perfectly fried as ever. I highly recommend Chilango’s to just about anyone. The only reason I’m deducting a star is the drinks. They used to be so cheap and good but $ 9 for an average margarita is a bit much to me.

We started this evening finding easy street parking along the Chilango’s block in Providence. The neighborhood is okay but make sure to lock your doors. Walking inside we were met with a romantically lit restaurant with tables that led to a higher area and bar area. Cool place for a date, dinner alone, or with a group of people who love mexican food. For the food we had chips and Salsa. This salsa was not out of a gallon bin or bus bucket it was fresh, thick and had a nice kick. The Guacamole ordered along with it was also creamy and delicious. Drinks were also a great addition: House margarita on par no over doing it on the mix. The Chalula was also really good. Dinner: Burrito with brisket was a 9⁄10. The meat was tender and was a reccomendation from our server. The Enchilladas with chocolate mole was amazing. Yes chocolate in your dinner; it is a must try. There was aslo cheese enchllladas and enchilladas verdes; they were all very good. As it stands right now this is my favorite and the best mexican in Providence!!! Also, for four people, six drinks, four entres and an appetizer, you can’t beat the price of 100 bucks.

I just left Chilangos. My friends and I went here after reading all of the great reviews. We walked in and were greeted by a very friendly young guy who sat us at a table in the back. We were given chips and salsa and menus and a drink menu. Two of us ordered the Horchata which was actually pretty good but a bit sweeter than what I am used to. But Horchata varies greatly depending on who makes it and what they prefer. Nonetheless it was rich and good just a bit too sweet. We then placed our orders with our waitress and I ordered the tacos. One was chorizo, the other a marinated pork, and then a mixed meat. The chorizo was seasoned very well and it was the ground chorizo that I am used to and prefer. I was happy with it. The marinated pork was also very good and reminds me of the carne enchilada I would get at a little taqueria in Queens. The mixed however wasn’t bad but tasted a bit dry. My boyfriend ordered the enmoladas which consists of chicken in a chicken mole with queso fresco and beans and rice. The beans are delicious and I loved them. The mole was a bit on the sweeter side than other chocolate moles I have had. I feel like it needed a bit more spice and salt to balance it out. But it wasn’t bad but not my favorite. My other friend had the carne arrachera which was a grilled marinated flank steak. It was Delicious! Super flavorful and the cactus salad that accompanied it was also beyond delicious! The restaurant was pretty quiet while we were there. 3 other tables were occupied and it seemed service was a bit slow. The waitress came for our order, to drop food off, and for the check. That was the only issue. I was going to order a cocktail but she didn’t come back until we had completed our meal. So until next time! I will be back to try the cochinita pibil. Overall a pretty good experience.

it’s in a rough neighborhood. A sign on the front door warns you about parking in the rear«for your own safety» the guacamole was delicious. fresh and crisp. the chips it comes with were also hearty and not too salty the main dish was a big disappointment. I had grilled chicken with mole, rice, tortillas, and some kind of side salad. the tortilla, chicken, and rice were all very dry. the mole was kind of tasteless and the side salad looked like something out of a school cafeteria. it was mayonnaise with carrots, peas, and potatoes. I think this is more of a drinks and guacamole kind of place

This place is definitely more than meets the eye. Location is not the greatest and there is a lack of parking, however, when you walk in the place is just too cute for words. Small but well decorated and lit, you definitely feel like you are in another part of town. Their menu includes large plates, small plates, and some salads and dessert. Lots of fun cocktails, although they don’t have their margaritas listed on their cocktail menu which was a bit odd. Most of our table of 8 got margaritas and while two asked for no salt the rest asked for salt, and she brought all of them with no salt. When asked why she said«Well some of you ordered no salt so I just did no salt on all of them.» Seemed like laziness on their part. Most everyone got tacos, I got a small plate that was chipotle chicken on fried bread. It was very good. The bill was incredibly cheap for 8 people plus drinks. The food was authentic and fresh, and I will definitely be back.

The tacos — you NEED to get the tacos! Oh those tacos were amazing! Super cute Mexican hole in the wall with amazing food! The hubs and I split three small plates for lunch/brunch and we could only finish 2 of them. We got the guac which was unbelieveably fresh, tasty and cream, the tacos which I can’t stop thinking about and tamales, which were very good, but didn’t have mariachi dancers la-coo-ca-ra-cha-ing through my head like those tacos. Service was super friendly but very slow — that’s why I gave it 4 stars. We’ll be back — OLE! ps — the drink menu looked super fun too!

This past Sunday marked my fourth or fifth visit to Chilangos so obviously I think it is good if I keep coming back ;) The first things that strike me are the modest size yet interesting décor and layout though that changes quickly to the usually urgent quest to find their funky drink specials. With only two draft choices, the Negra Modelo(which I am always happy with) and the Negra Modelo Especial, I am always more entertained by the mixed drink that the wife orders. Unfortunately on this visit there were no drink specials so for her it was a regular Margarita. Neither of us was too impressed– mostly with the flavor of the lime mixer but hey… The guacamole with habanero was«seasoned» perfectly and had that fresh nutty taste that I love. It was also a perfect complement to the salsa which our server enthusiastically kept bringing. My Tilapia a la Veracruzana was loaded with flavor and olives and there was none left to pack up for home. Overall a really good experience as usual though we both could also have used a few more degrees of heat(it seemed rather cold in there despite having opened a few hours before our arrival). Regardless, we will be back again I am sure.

My new favorite Mexican place in Providence! Why the hell was I going to El Rancho Grande?! Chilangos should be voted the best. Until word gets out, this is my new place. The food here is FRESH, FRESH, FRESH and super tasty. I was a bit worried after reading Hillary’s review regarding my always favorite enchiladas verde(tomatillo). I always judge a new Mexican joint based upon its tomatillo sauce. Their’s was absolutely delicious and again so fresh. I loved everything from the chunky salsa and chips to the rice and beans. Besides the fresh food, Chilangos had SO much better service than El Rancho Grande. The service and food is quick. The servers and owner are amazing. Give Chilangos a try!
