Frank A Pazienza, DDS

As a person with more cavity filler than tooth enamel, and who grew up ruing visits to the dentist (on 3 continents), I can claim with 100% certainty that Dr Pazienza is the most gentle, mild-​mannered and conscientious dentists I’ve ever had.
It is (almost) a joy going in for a checkup – so much so that our little 4-​year-​old girl is now going to the same dentist. She loves it already!
Dr Votolato, who practices dentistry alongside Dr Pazienza, has often filled in (pardon the pun) for him and is just as careful and conscientious – even in dire dental emergencies!
I’d recommend either dentist any day of the week.

I’ve had a lot of dental work done in my life, so I unfortunately have lots of points of comparison. Pazienza has the most outstanding «bedside manners» of just about any healthcare professional I’ve known. He’s a genuinely nice person, and patient and calm almost beyond belief.
This makes for such a calming atmosphere that I actually look forward to visits (in a manner of speaking). This matters, because now I am much less likely to put off visits to the dentist, which improves my dental health, finds problems early, etc.
Of course I’m not qualified to comment on the quality of his work, other than to say I haven’t had any real problems I’d attribute to him. Compared to some other dentists I’ve been to, he’s also a bit of a craftsman: he’s in there smoothing and shaping even when I can’t tell the difference. He takes the results very seriously.
Another thing I like is that his staff claim they will go a few rounds with insurance agencies, rather than taking the first response they get and dumping the bill on you. I haven’t really evaluated this claim, but I also have not felt wronged.
On instances when I’ve needed to see him in an emergency, they’ve generally been good about squeezing me in.
The one awful thing about this practice is the scheduling of dental cleanings. They essentially have to schedule you months in advance. This may be fine for retired folks, say, but for busy people who have business and travel and such, this does not work out at all. They really need to have more cleaners here.
I was tempted to take off a star because of this cleaning staffing problem, but I ultimately decided Pazienza is so good that I didn’t want to hold it against him. So, 4* for the practice, but 5* for Pazienza.
(I was treated once by his partner Votolato, who’s also a decent guy, but doesn’t have Pazienza’s preternatural calm. But, as I’ve said, virtually nobody does.)
