Brown University’s student-​run taiko team is an amazing anomaly in the Providence area. They play traditional Japanese pieces on huge drums that you can hear from blocks away. If you’ve never seen taiko, you should try to show up when they perform! It’s like nothing you’ve ever heard before, I promise :)
I think they do off-​campus performances too if you contact them and just ask. I saw them at Waterfire during the summer! It’s definitely more exciting than renting out another second-​rate band.
