My regular cleaning here has always been excellent, and I like the idea of fewer chemicals. But this was really great: I brought in a vintage Marimekko dress I had wanted to wear to wedding. Id unpacked it just the day before traveling, and discovered it had been stored for 20 years with stains! I was worried about getting it cleaned in any case – wanted the bright colors to stay bright – so thought Id leave it with Stephanie at G and C to clean it for another time. When she heard I had planned to wear it that weekend, she checked her shelves, and performed a miracle. They now carry green home care and cleaning products, and from these she pulled Stubborn Stain Remover, tested it and applied it herself while I waited. In under ten minutes the stains were gone, the dress bright as new and wrapped by Steph for my trip.(I bought some Stubborn Stain Remover, too, of course – its great.)

They are very nice here, but I would say the cleaning not well done. Dropped a nice dress off — picked it up shrunken to the point of not being able to wear it and with a HUGE oil stain across the front that wasn’t there before. My other shirt I dropped off with it — new stain that wasn’t there before, and another(favorite shirt) — shrunk as well. Never again.

Been here to hem some jeans a few times and a dress. Takes a week and was $ 10 per pant. Service was friendly.

Ok so for Providence standards of mine I think they’re 4 stars but my Los Angeles standards bump it down. I’ve never had any problems with lost items and always get my clothes back cleaned and when they stated they would be ready. Stephanie, one of the owners, is great and will know her costumers personally after one or two visits. The woman who comes in for alterations is also great. Just let Stephanie know when you’d like to come in and she’ll make sure that she’s there. I had two of my J. Crew dresses taken in that had boning in the bodice and they came out perfect. So why the 3 stars? It takes forever(in my LA opinion) to get clothes back. It usually takes up to 4 days. IE if you drop off on a Saturday it’ll get back Wednesday or Thursday. It is just a pain. I know its because they send out their clothes because they’re eco friendly, but it is still just a pain.

I’ve been using these guys for a while now, and they are ok– I like the idea of less chemicals in dry cleaning, but they are pretty disorganized. Lately, it’s taken them longer than they say to return my items, and then they lost a shirt completely. Things happen, but in the end, they were only willing to pay a partial refund, and required a long period of looking for it and badgering to finally get some satisfaction. Poor customer service for somebody that’s been a steady customer for 2 years. That, and they are more expensive than other dry cleaners I’ve used. Oh well…

I had a really awful experience at Green & Cleaner. I was very excited about chemical-free laundering, but similarly to Darlene, I had a couple of hand-knit sweaters shrunk horribly. Stephanie Isenberg, the owner offered to «reblock» them which I was happy about — but they came back completely overstretched. Two buttons were torn off of a dress shirt and I was told they will CHARGE me to replace buttons that were pulled off in their laundering process. When I confronted them about this, they told me if I contacted the manufacturer to get buttons from them they would do it for free, otherwise, I’d have to pay. At $ 2.50 a shirt, I think I’ll find another organic cleaner. It’s truly not worth the hassle to me.

I dropped four of my mom’s drapery panels off at Green and Cleaner and they came back approximately 5 inches shorter. I left the panels on four occasions for them to inspect — and they determined there was nothing that they could do. So, the owner tried to exchange them at the Pottery Barn. I suggested that the drapes be sent to the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute( ) to determine if it was a manufacturer’s defect or a defect in the cleaning process — the owner told me(and my mom) that testing would be too costly. The owner said that she would reimburse us the cost of the cleaning and the cost of the drapes, but later reneged.
