If you love Reuben’s this is the place to go in Providence. I always opt for mixing the corned beef with pastrami. The mac and cheese is also a great side though I generally get it go to because it’s too much with the sandwich. I have been coming here since I moved to Providence 14 years ago and though it has gone through lots of changes, the staff and food have always remained great. If you are not into Reuben’s try the meatball sub, chili, or shepherds pie. Stay away from the steak tip salad or chicken breast based sandwiches they tend to be dry. Tip: order the Irish iced coffee.

So we were in town for a cheerleading competition. We were looking for a close place to the convention center to grab a quick bite, relax and have some drinks. We made our way into Murphy’s Pub and we were not disappointed! The food was great and the service was superb! Our waiter was so much fun(believe he may have been Irish). We had a great time razing one another and he had our group in tears everytime he came by the table. I highly recommend stopping by Murphy’s if you are ever in town. I almost would make the trek from Lancaster PA just for the entertainment of our waiter! Had a blast! Thanks for the great time! Rick

If you are looking for delicious drinks food and customer service second to none than Murphy’s is the Providence destination for you! Kara, the bartender, makes every guest feel like they are a part of the Murphy’s family. She remembers what her guests drink and she anticipates their every need! Needless to say, it’s usually pretty busy in this establishment. Try the Rueben Egg Rolls! They melt in your mouth! On Saturday and Sunday they have brunch as well!

I still can’t get over how awesome my experience at Murphy’s was… especially because I pass by every single day and never gave it a second thought. This weekend, my family was in town to see the Providence Bruins and I heavily dissuaded their desires to eat downtown, close to the Dunk, but I lost the battle. Trinity, of course, had a heinous wait list but Murphy’s wait wasn’t as heinous. I was skeptical, having never been, but also really hungry. I thought it was going to be a shady situation at first because the hostess called our table but since we were sorting out parking, she wouldn’t seat the entire party. Pretty standard but then when we were all there, she insisted the party for the table was under«Matt» and just kept yelling«Matt» even after we politely asked her if she had the correct name. She didn’t even make eye contact, said, «No. Matt.» and then after no one answered, she looked at her list again and realized she was wrong. It was no big deal and she was nice about it afterward but her initial attitude was unnecessary. Oh well, whatever, what can you do? You can drink a beer while you wait but there’s not really much room to wait so expect to be in everyone’s way. Also, expect to wait for the bathroom if the dining area is super slammed. Now that we’ve got the bad parts out of the way, let’s focus on the totally awesome. Totally awesome: — pretty good beer selection, diverse — good amount of local beers both bottled and on tap(the Revival was an IPA so I had to pass but I always like to see that!) — massive menu without being downright overwhelming — our server was AWESOME — the food! Murphy’s specialty seems to be its deli sandwiches. They have a page of ‘mountain high’ deli sandwiches and then they have pages of more specialty sandwiches. Almost everyone at my table got some variation of a rueben, which all looked mega delicious with thick, tender meat. You can choose your side so I got to sample both the fries(which were good, not out of this world, but certainly not terrible either) and the mac and cheese(phenomenal! it seems almost like they don’t realize how good it is, offering it as a side, or something — tastes fresh baked, both creamy and with a melted cheese layer on top). I had the Aquidneck Shrimp Po Boy and Oh Boy! The shrimp was fried in a cornmeal batter but it wasn’t too greasy, in fact it was a little dry and gritty which I like because it soaks up all the delicious remoulade. There’s fresh romaine and a fresh pickle and tomato mixture dressing the sandwich. I like that the pickles have a mild taste — not sour, sweet, totally herbed, etc. They’re just mellow pickles and really jive well with the sandwich. The best part though is that Italian sub roll. Perfection! The salads are generous and came with a large chicken breast on the grilled chicken apple salad. I liked the vinaigrette — it was not too sweet or overwhelming. Very good as a light-fare option. Instead of bread, Murphy’s serves fresh, delicious, complementary slices of dill pickles. Super cool. I can’t believe I’ve never been here before. I’m definitely coming back! Also, I don’t know what the comments are all about regarding parking. It’s downtown Providence for cripe’s sake — parking’s going to stink every time buuuut almost all of the meters take credits cards, especially near Murphy’s. You might have to park closer to JWU and all that to find an actual spot but the walk isn’t terrible, especially on a nice day.

Elaine, our server, was OUTSTANDING. She greeted my friend and I through the crowd and helped us pick a phenomenal local brew. Elaine was very pleasant, personable, and really cared about our experience at the establishment. If you visit Providence I recommend you come here and hope you have Elaine as your server. She is A+. And I couldn’t believe it that the pastrami was better than the family’s «Katz» in NYC. But that’s my Personal opinion.

This was our first night in Providence, and our experience at Murphy’s was so good we had to write this review! The location is awesome, the prices are good, and the drinks are very generous– But what prompted this review is that the kitchen and bartending staff went out of their way to make us something that wasn’t on the late-night menu, and continued to go above and beyond all night, making sure we had a great experience. The next time we’re in Providence, I know where we’ll be stopping. Thanks, guys.

I really wanted to give this place a 4 star rating but couldn’t bring myself to do so for the following reasons. To start, parking here is a night mare. You’ll be driving in circles hoping someone will coincidentally pull out of their parking spot, but that’s not gonna happen. If you don’t come here with a bunch of change for a parking meter, then you’ll end up spending $ 10 to park like I did. No fun. Now on to Murphy’s. In all honesty, the pictures on Unilocal don’t fully depict how nice this place is. I did come here on a date last night so yea, it was dark inside, but it was clear Murphy’s isn’t your typical pub in the sense of aesthetics. It’s a better one. High ceilings give it a rich look, and the lamps that hang from the ceiling give off some elegance to this casual bar. Huge windows likewise add a high-class feel. I love that this establishment is located on a corner. There’s something about a bar that makes it more appealing and inviting when not squashed between other businesses. It just stood out more to me. I ordered the Soup Du Jour, which was a noodle and sausage soup. It was delicious, flavorful and the soup itself wasn’t too hot. It’s always nice when you don’t burn your tongue. My complaint about it was the portion size. I didn’t order this from the appetizer menu, and chose a bowl instead of a cup. What was brought in front of me looked like a bowl from a kids menu. In other words, there was a cup full of soup in a kitty-sized bowl. My date ordered buffalo wings from the appetizer menu, and although there were only 3 on his plate, they were large. The other problem was our waitress. She was too pushy with the drinks, coming in often asking if we’d like another beer or Kettle with soda. Otherwise, she was polite. The soda water that was mixed with my Kettle was great, it gave it a little kick that I rarely find at most bars. And the glass was large, they definitely didn’t rip me off on my vodka. I want to come here again in hopes to have a better experience. Overall, give this place a try. I think it’s worth your time if you come prepared for the parking and don’t order soup.

We had a burger, a Reuben, a pastrami on rye & the bacon mac n’ cheese… all but the mac came with fries. Everything was good, but nothing was great… 3 stars on everything &2 stars on the fries.

Murphy’s is fantastic all around! My wife and I are from out of town and stopped in for lunch and a quick beer. We ended up saying for hours due to their awesome hospitality! Be sure to say hello to a great bartender Dom and the owner Louis! Try the corned beef sandwich while you’re laying down some brews!

This place is alright. The Irish dude behind the bar is great. The food is less than mediocre. Wings were undercooked, shrimp tacos were saturated in whatever juice the tomatoes and corn were sitting in. Every bite dripped into a puddle that ended up being 2 inches deep. Drinks were drinks.

Pretty run of the mill pub atmosphere. Place was a little messy and unkempt. There was a good amount of trash on the floors and bev naps on bare tables which is a peeve of mine, but nothing too over the top. The service had its ups and downs, but was underwhelming. When we only got one beer and declined their craft taps for something simpler, guiness and smithwicks, she seemed perturbed. She knew the menu, but was preoccupied with her other guests which is fine. Food speaks for itself, and it was an easy in and out stop.

Murphy’s. I live right down the street and this place is my go-to. Great food and the pickles are so bomb. One suggestion: deep fry your Mac and cheese. It’s great on its own but I can imagine murphys Mac and cheese bites really catching on.

This was a nice little find on a Sunday afternoon. Little did we know that wings when the Boston Red Sox are playing are half price and that was music to my wallet. I had the regular buffalo wings and Murphy’s wings sauce is the best I have had in awhile. The waitress we had was very attentive and since we were looking for things to do she spent some time with us and gave us some tips on what to do while we were in providence. We will definitely come back especially for the stone double IPA beer.

Awesome atmosphere, easy to walk to from all the hotels downtown. Wings are half price during redsox games. Wings we’re great too, very tasty, meaty and cooked perfect temperature. House pickes were so good. Service with server and bartender was great, they offered local things to do. Highly recommended, glad we stopped by!

Incredibly friendly, warm atmosphere for a great casual dining experience. The fish and chips and any deli sandwich will be sure to be the best you’ve ever had. My husband and I go back bimonthly for the great food and wonderful service. It’s also very comforting and reassuring to see the owner at the restaurant almost every time we dine. You can tell the owners take pride in what they do.

Free parking can be tough to find but there are many parking garages around $ 10 nearby. This place has average food, got the fish tacos and Reuben. Had a lot of the basic beers on tap but did have a few specialty ones as well. Had a groupon which is what brought me to this bar. The best part was the unlimited homemade pickles but otherwise there isn’t much to say, food was decent, this place delivers what you would expect from a bar.

Today was my second time coming in for lunch and I have to say the consistency is right on point. While it’s not a New York Deli sandwich by any means it sure is a great substitute given being here in the Providence area. The pastrami is legit and the coleslaw is fresh and adds a nice dimension to the sandwich along with the spicy brown mustard. Certainly I will be making it a weekly event to come here for lunch. Enjoy!

Murphy’s is a perfectly acceptable pub. It’s juxtaposed between being a sit-down restaurant and a tavern, and there’s a clear difference in their clientele that reflects that. It can be a bit confusing. However, the bartenders and managers are among the best in the city – this is where they’ve got the competition beat! If only the food was better. It’s underwhelming, but Murphy’s isn’t going for five-star cuisine. It’s good. It’s three star food at a good price. I’d like more gluten-free options, but knowing that my allergy is my problem I don’t hold it against them.

**UPDATEDASOF3÷20÷16 from 3÷1÷15 from a 4 star to 5** Initially, I was going to review this place before the renovations as I have been a regular in here for over a year. I decided to wait and I’m glad I did. Some of the reviews on here will disagree, however, since Murphy’s overhauled their restaurant, their staff and kitchen team, this place is miles better than what it used to be. I mean MIILLLEEES! The atmosphere is more open and sunny, the revisions to the menu and how the food is made has taken on whole new skill, and the general mood around the restaurant seems much more energetic and lively. Highlights: Food: Pretty much any of the grinders and sandwiches. Ruben, Meatloaf and Chicken Parm is on point. Enough for 2 for those who have smaller appetites. Guinness Chili is nice, filling with just the right amount of flavor and spice. Shepard’s pie is killer as well. Another point as well: Having worked in food service for 5 years, I can personally say these guys last night for St. Patties are absolute frekin champs! Not only did the get my order right(Turkey club, sub Mustard, Corn Beef and Coleslaw), but did so quickly, and made it perfectly. Well done guys! Beer: A solid collection of craft and local brews, as well as your more main stream selections. $ 3.50 Gansettes. Service: In my last review on 3⁄1 I mentioned the service was pretty iffy still, after headed there for St. Patties last night, I can say it’s become vastly improved! In a sea of people, we were able to get a table of 2 on the spot for a St Pattys dinner. The bouncer/door man was extremely diligent and friendly about finding us a table quickly. Melissa our server was by far the quickest, friendliest, detailed, multi tasking champ of any server I have ever had here. She was a boss last night! Dislikes: Only thing I can say now to anyone in the area planning on coming in here for a weekend trip is this place is Ya Bro/PC Bro central. If you can’t handle loud bars with drunk frats and pretentious snobs making grunting noises and yelling at TV screens because the sports ball team missed a field shot, don’t go here. Other than that, party on Wayne.

I understand it’s a pub, it’s not suppose to have 5 star customer service. However, can we at least try not to rush us, or get upset when we make modifications to our food, or at the very least, be more attentive then every 10 mins a brief walk by. I’ll be back in soon for sure. Highly recommend for people visiting from out of town to have a quick bite and drink.

Ahhh Murphy’s…for years now this place has been a bar I find myself popping into time and time again for a quick bite to eat, or a cold beer or two on draft. What I’ve always liked about this bar is that they know how to make some delicious and good sized deli style sandwiches and also have a good selection of different beers on draft(at very reasonable prices). I’ve come to notice over the years that service can definitely be on the slower side here but the servers themselves are usually always friendly no matter how hectic the place might be. That is the other thing to know about Murphy’s…if you come here before or after a PC basketball game(or P-Bruins game), be prepared for a wait or to squeeze in near the bar because this place gets packed really quickly. I really would rate my review more 3.5 stars then just a 3(but not quite a 4). Good food, good beer and decent enough service. They also recently renovated the place and while I do miss the old school deli and décor, I apprecaite and respect the fact that they wanted to spruce the place up and I like the new upscale Irish pub feel. Murphy’s is A-OK in my book.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience tonight. First we waited ten minutes at the door without being acknowledged. When we were seated, we were told they were out of burgers. No biggie. We ordered some potato skins as an app and the four of us ordered dinners that should take no more than 15 minutes to prepare. My husband ordered two different beers, both which they were out of. Then we were told they were out of potatoes for the skins. We waited 55 minutes before needing to leave to catch our show. It had a nice atmosphere and I know it wasn’t the waitresses fault. But to wait that long for food and to be out of so many items was very frustrating.

After a very successful opening night for our play. I wanted to go out and celebrate with a couple beers at a local bar in providence. Took a walk down fountain street and was going to go to trinity but it was packed so went down the street a little more and found Murphy’s. My love for Irish bars I decided to step in. Great decision the atmosphere was perfect and it wasn’t overcrowded. I found a spot at the bar and got a drink. Very great service and very fast speedy drinks were made and was able to get a order of cheesy fries before the night was over. Great place I will so be coming back in the future
