Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted with an employee having a cigarette outside… I walked in immediately after him and unsure of what to expect after seeing him quickly putting on clear plastic gloves without washing his hands or making any eye contact with me. I notice that the restaurant was predominantly white and the senior citizens grouped together at the far end of the counter. I was not greeted or acknowledged. After sitting directly in the front of the counter, I ask to order… But no one waited on me… Instead, I was told to hold up. I felt like I wasn’t welcome here. After seeing two others walked in who was«also white» got served instantly before me, I knew this place wasn’t for me or anyone looking for a family atmosphere restaurant. Don’t believe everything you hear… Visit and see exactly what I mean. I lived in Smith Hill for over 25 years and been to this location about twice. This is my last time I assure you. I still rather go to Onleyville NY system to get my fix.

Yes. Order some weiners«all the way» and you will be a happy camper. Tip: get them to go, eat them before you drive away, throw the bag in your back seat, and your car will smell scrumptious for days. They put napkins in the bag for the BAG, not for your hands. Love it here.

Pulled up a little after 10pm on a sunday night. Night cook was really sociable and laughed at the 20 minutes of hot wiener jokes we made. The wife and I got hot weiners, BLTs, and fries. I think if it was just a hot dog I would have been pissed but it much more the a dog it is topped with a mixture of toppings that make it a yummy snack or meal for you smaller folk . My friend got eggs homefries toast. we all loved our food and made the cook take a selfie with us as part of our memories of a fun week of following a band on tour the north east coast. Now it is my gift to you Unilocalers please tip this guys he is worth every dollar.

This is one of my favorite late night foods after a long night of bar hopping. I moved to Massachusetts a long time ago and couldn’t get these unless I visited Rhode Island. When I returned to RI for college, I quickly realized that these little treasures are even better after a long night.

Just like Tommy’s Pizza, this is another place I brag about to out-of-town friends. I’m so darn proud of the NE Weiner(and coffee milk) thing lol The weiners are delicious and so are the fries. Just order a small fry because a small is very large! I hate the parking because it’s on the street and very limited, but that’s ok. I’ve called and asked to place an order to be picked up. I guess it depends on whose working on whether or not you can do that as I’ve been told ok and I’ve been told no. I’ve also heard that they now deliver, but I’m not experienced with that.

I went on a Unilocal hiatus but my recent experience at New York System reeled me back in. My coworkers found their food satisfactory but I’m writing because of Jason who works there. He was articulate, patient, and just the kind of person you want to deal with over the phone. I’m a delivery fiend and I just wish every transaction was so seamless! Top notch customer service.

RI Classic – the original! Simple dive diner specializing in hot wieners(higher quality — like $ 2−3/lb versus $ 1/lb for hot dog meat). Do NOT call them hot dogs. Get two wieners all the way with a coffee milk and you might pass for a Rhode Islander. Tip: game day special is 50 wieners for $ 75!

Ordered a classic burger and it was so tasteless. Chili fries were a brown version of italian ragu not good at all, really dry. The mushroom burger was so dry I have no idea how I was able to swallow it, so nasty. Never again would I consider this place. What a joke of burgers.

NY System Wiener… It’s a consummate quirky classic Rhode Island idea(like Dels) that conjures up impure thoughts of bad pornography. There really isn’t much about this place that is extraordinary. but the meat sauce and onions are the key. They are all over the PVD area… the analogy is sort of like Ted’s hot dogs in Buffalo. Uniquely RI. The concept actually reaches the South County beaches as well(although not under the NY name)…

Wanted to satisfy the cravings of late night munchies and we had just been told about the Rhode Island original hot dog place. With about 3 – 4 locations now, New York System restaurants are scattered throughout nearby Providence, these locations just recently started accepting credit cards because, well, they’re so GD cheap. I think I bought 6 hot dogs(when really a normal human being eats about 2) for under 15 bucks. Each hot dog is seemingly simple but the taste is surprisingly complex. If you’re on a date, hopefully both of you are enjoying hot dogs so you have the mutual onion kiss but otherwise pack yourself a few breath mints and quickly brush your teeth at your earliest convenience! Most of these are located in kinda shady areas and parking is a little bit of an issue. But if you make it inside, enjoy a big snack packed in a small package

Weenies and Coffee Milk What is more of Rhody tradition then the late night stop at the wiener joint. Smith St is one of the original locations and they do it pretty well. Tip: 3 wieners with the works and an ice cold coffee milk Always delicious especially when your a little drunk. Only drawback your going to still taste them in the morning. This location is A OK. Thanks

A Rhode Island staple, a weiner all the way is not unless you get it here. When you visit RI they hand you a weiner and a copy of Family Guy… the weiner is from here.

I started coming here with my father when I was 9 – 10 years old, I thought they were amazing then and all these years later… I still do. I feel that anyone who gives them a bad review because of what it looks like, well, they don’t deserve these gifts from heaven. A lot of people suggest going late at night after a few but I also suggest going on a rainy/snowy day. The windows will be steamed up and outside it might be miserable but get a couple NY System hotdogs, a cup of coffee, talk to the guy behind the counter about the Sox/Patriots and all will seem right with the world. The word institution is often overused but this place truly is a Providence institution. When I move back from sunny and all too happy/friendly, Sarasota, Florida, the first thing I’ll do(after beeping, screaming an obscenity and giving the finger to a guy that will no doubt cut me off on Smith Hill) is come here. This place makes gritty and dirty seem beautiful and I love it.

WIEN-AHHHHHH’S!!! My friends and I frequent Patrick’s Pub across the street and we stay until they close… and we get hungry… FORWIENERS. The guys here are AWESOME. They’re so friendly and they always let us in to use the restroom even after the inside is closed! The food is so good. I could live off their wieners and cheese fries. I’ve heard marvelous things about the coffee milk as well. I’ll give it a try next time!

If you’re going to get hot wieners, this is the place to get them in Providence. Like someone else noticed, it’s a little grimy, but that’s because it’s an old restaurant, with 2 – 3 older guys working behind the counter sporting faded Navy tattoos and lots of character. The wieners are good and the coffee milk is their own special recipe. Ask them about other stuff to do in Rhode Island and you will get typical Rhode Island instructions to go somewhere that such-and-such establishment *used* to be. Newspaper clippings featuring the shop and other local touches decorate the walls. You couldn’t get a better distillation of the Rhody experience.
