This place is rad. They have a huge variety of sushi rolls! Tons of veggie options like eggplant, spinach, mushroom, and sweet potato. There is a cool room that you can sit in where you sit on the floor and eat on cushions. They also have regular seating and its byob!

Food is great. The vibe nice. Especially the low– table room. The only con in the staff-rude as hell…

Okay restaurant, but Sakura does not seem to understand what a reservation is… We had to wait forever to be seated. We had a group of nine people so we made a reservation with Sakura over a week in advance to make, but all the large tables were filled and the groups of people seemed like they just got there. After we waited for over half an hour, a waitress finally seated us in their enclosed porch area and pulled up a bunch of additional chairs. It was cramped to the point where people could not move their chairs without having others move as well. The staff apologized for the wait, but otherwise treated it as a normal event. The food was okay but rather forgettable and definitely not worth the wasted time.

I am a fan! Very generous serving sizes. I do have to say, need to work on the service part a bit more. We are always in a rush when we stop by here, so we like to dine and then get out as soon as possible. The waitress sometimes just hang out with one another. But I don’t blame them since the food is great! gluten free friendly.

So far, this is the best sushi restaurant that I’ve found in PVD. The sushi is always fresh, and not ridiculously overpriced. The best things about this place are that it’s BYOB, and there’s a super cozy room in the back where you can sit on the floor(just don’t forget to take off your shoes!) The only reason I won’t give it 5 stars is because at times, the servers seem very annoyed to be serving you. But if you and your significant other are looking for a fun, casual place for dinner, grab a bottle of wine and a table in the back and enjoy!

Decent sushi. 3.5÷5 I’ve had better on the east side of providence. They have the traditional tables in the back where you can remove your shoes and sit on the floor which I love though anyone who is older, gets uncomfortable or stiff doing this may want to be aware that regular seating is limited. I felt the prices were actually a touch high for the quality and service was a bit slow for dinner, given the lack of guests that were in the dining area.

Worst ever. Food taste like Chinese food. (Not that Chinese food is bad. It’s just should taste like Japanese food) And waitress rolls her eyes at me. Dirty dishes. Pricy. Got my order messed up. Just the WORST

Their ingredients are very fresh! They are the best sushi in town. The chef’s special rolls are bigger in portion than other Japanese restaurants. My favorite roll is Red Sox Maki, it has shrimp tempura and avocado inside, and masago and spicy crab on top. Besides that, i also love their tempura ice cream, the green tea one is better than the red bean.

The sushi here is phenomenal! They have some normal tables but they have this other great area where you can take off your shoes and sit Indian style at the table which I think is a lot of fun. We took the sushi ordering sheet and ordered a ton of sushi for round one bc since it is BYOB, how much are you really going to spend anyway? I would suggest to order a variety of sushi to split for round one and always include one of the specials bc those tend to be the best! Then when you are done with round two get ready to order another variety, you can’t go wrong bc it is so good and reasonably priced. Only problem here is the service, it is awful, they barely come over to your table so I would suggest bringing your own wine opener and possibly your own glasses bc by the time they come over with it you are ready to leave. I have been here over a dozen times and the service is always as awful as the last. If you go there knowing the service is horrible but you want great sushi you will be prepared.

Sakura has the best Udon by far. I would go out of my way just for the soup. The sushi is pretty good as well as their small side dishes. There is an area where you take off your shoes and can sit on the floor, which is different in the best way possible. However, there are other areas where you can sit in a chair normally. The service is pretty good and the prices are not terrible. I’ve gone multiple times and I will definitely be going in the future.

One of my favorite restaurants. I’m vegetarian and I have never had a better yam roll(kampyo) anywhere. The avocado is very impressive too. The servers are busy, be polite and don’t waste their time when ordering. For a great date, eat in the lower dining room(no shoes!) and get the lunch combo with red bean ice cream.

So upset. Love Sakura, but just tried to pick up a take out order. First time, checked, wrong order. Went back in, they hand me another bag. My fault I didn’t check again, got all the way home, wrong order. Spent 30 $ for nothing since I refuse to drive 20 min back. So pissed right now.

I really dislike writing a review after reading multiple negative reviews, but let’s be honest, we all read up on restaurants before we go nowadays. In my opinion, I really was not impressed with the quality of the food, the level of service or the cleanliness of the establishment. I came here here for a group meeting, in which we had reserved a more private room, in order to spare the rest of the customers from our boring discussion. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the some of the atypical seating, the cushions and the low set tables. However, on a closer view, there was dirt, grimes, food wastes on the ground and no visible trash cans. The staff was very rushed, and constantly seemed overwhelmed and snappy. Even with a higher threshold of tolerance for Asian restaurant services, this was quite atrocious. As for the food, I was quite underwhelmed. The cost of each sushi plate seemed higher than normal, and the quality of the fish did not strike as the freshest the ocean state has to offer. We had eel, salmon and tuna rolls, as well as the shrimp tempura rolls. The shrimp rolls were ok, but too battered; the best rolls were actually the sweet potato rolls, which is quite disappointing for a sushi joint. Finally, the edame… which is hard to screw up was unsalted, tough and still lukewarm when served. Overall, I’m happy that this place catered to our event, but I do not foresee myself returning to this place in the near future. Food: 2 stars Price: 2 stars Service: 1 star Ambiance: 1 star

Pretty good sushi place, at least for PVD. There is a section with tables on the right side, and left side is more traditional, where you sit at a big table on the floor. I ordered the Chirashi dinner special(for lunch) and my boyfriend got a beef bento box(not the teriyaki one, but I forgot the name). The bento box came in an untraditional form, with four plates for gyoza, beef, Cali rolls, and rice. Everything was quite delish! I especially enjoyed the beef, which was juicy strips of beef rolled around fat scallion slices and slathered in teriyaki sauce. It was unexpected but yummy! The California rolls also surprised me, as they were very fresh tasting and filled with a generous amount of roe. The chirashi bowl is a good deal for the price, and the fish is decent if not spectacular. Both meals also came with miso soup and salad topped with that amazing Japanese dressing. The chirashi special also comes with dessert, but you have to remember to ask for it… they usually give you the bill before asking about dessert. It’s a bit sketch, but whatever. Just make sure to request your ice cream scoop! There aren’t many sushi places in PVD, so I still come here pretty often for my sushi fix.

Great food. Mild atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff. I really enjoyed the sushi here! Great place for casual Japanese, could be a great place for friends with their table set ups.

Let me just start off by saying that the service at Sakura is probably some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. They will ask you how many people are with you and give you a «guesstimate» of how long it will be until you can sit. They told me 25 minutes, but it was more around 40 minutes. If you don’t get their attention and remind them you’re waiting they won’t generally check on until there is a table open. However, don’t let this service steer you away from eating here because it is the best sushi I’ve ever had. I have eaten at a good amount of sushi restaurants, but Sakura is the best. On my visit I ordered a good amount of sushi ranging from the«Lost Control» roll, which is unreal and is a must have to the casual and simple California roll. However, Sakura has the best California roll because they use real crab meat as well as fish eggs on their rolls. The rolls are also rolled with sesame seeds, which overall increase the quality of the white rice rolls. I also got a octopus roll which I got just to try, but it was very chewy and i was not feeling it. But I’m all about living life on the edge and being spontaneous, so I tried it. In addition, I had the dragon Maki which is out of this world and is a must have! As well as the Spicy Lobster, but this roll I feel is aimed more towards those who love lobster. My girlfriend and I also got the spicy salmon and spicy runs sandwich, which is delicious. Also as a tip cut it into eight pieces for each sandwich. The sandwiches are very similar to sushi rolls, and I highly suggest getting them because they are very flavorful. Also, I would wait for the room where you sit on the ground,(don’t forget to take your shoes off!), in order to get the full cultural experience. There is very limited seating and it isn’t the place to bring a group, but it is a great place to eat. Furthermore, it is BYOB, or bring your own beer, and this is a great addition to Sakura. It allows you to grab a great six pack or a bottle of wine along with your outstanding sushi! I would recommend Sakura 10⁄10 times to anyone who was looking for a great place for authentic Japanese cuisine and sushi.

Been four times now. The first time, it was dead, and I had an older woman for a waitress. Today, there were three young girls and a couple tables with lunch customers. It’s small and cramped, and the floor bounces you up and down every time someone walks by. The first time, I ordered maki and hand roll a la cart. It was good. Today, I had the maki lunch and an extra tuna roll. The waitress did not understand this, and another came to help. Uugh. I think they just want you to point to the number of the dish and not ask for anything fancy. All the waitresses, customers, and the guy coming over to get the mail were speaking Mandarin. The old guy with the mail was yelling in it for ten minutes. Not fun! Miso soup was hot and tasty. Plenty of miso paste and dashi. Maki was fine. Made properly. Fresh. Sushi rice was warm and that was kind of off putting, but a personal preference. It seems their staff varies so your experiences may also.

Not a bad sushi restaurant but not the best in town. The spicy tekka maki was just ok. I didn’t get sick, but I did question the freshness of the fish. The yam maki however is delicious– buttery with a little crunch. It’s byob so that always enjoyable. We had very little interaction with the server– she picked up our order sheet and brought us waters and a place setting. When I asked for a bottle opener, I felt like I was putting her out. In the past I’ve had similar experiences with odd table side service here. I can’t say I won’t be back, but like I said there are other options around town and I’d suggest trying them out first.

I want to like Sakura but there sushi generally disappoints. I realize when it comes to sushi, I’m a bit picky. I want fresh, fresh, fresh. I stay away from any fish-based sushi here and stick with either veggie rolls or teriyaki. As other reviews have said, the teriyaki is okay but definitely not mind blowing. Also, the rice on the rolls is okay but really not as good as other places in the area. Other tidbits: The service here is neither bad nor good. They recently added bubble tea to the menu. There is a $ 0.75 charge for BYOB. There is plenty of seating. Parking can be a bit trickier on the weekends.
