Shark Bar & Grille

This place sucks anyway! Music is always way too loud for a place where you go sit and talk. Food is expensive and horrible. I think people just go here to be seen and that’s it.

My roommate came here once with some friends, and I decided to tag along this time around. It was fun, and this restaurant is pretty decent.
PROS
–The atmosphere, of course! There’s a real shark tank behind the bar, which looks awesome. Plus there’s a light show on the ceiling that looks like rippling water.
–Their fishbowls will get you drunk FAST. We ordered the scorpion, and we were all pleasantly buzzed by the time four of us finished one. Don’t order this if you just want one tasty drink — it’s better for pregaming before hitting the rest of Thayer.
–Our waitress was super friendly, and always checked in on us. Not sure who these rude waitresses were in the other reviews, but it couldn’t have been this one.
CONS
–The hostess wasn’t really doing her job. She helped the bouncer check our IDs, but kind of pointed at a table in the corner. She didn’t really confirm or deny that we could seat ourselves, so it as a little confusing
–It’s crazy expensive. The scorpion bowl cost about $ 28, and everything else wasn’t cheap either. I think it’s to pay for all the fixings.
Overall, I had a good night, and would definitely come back.

This place. Truthfully, sucks. If I had to give it a serious rating I would give no stars.
Waitresses suck here. We walked in to find a friend and let the server be aware of that. and it took her 10 mins to get us menus. She was chatting it up with a coworker and had a completely, almost, empty restaurant. Her section was a joke considering she only had 4 tables.
We get our drinks and as soon as we finish she is nowhere to be found, this is our first stop for bar hopping and this whole process took AN HOUR.
Trying to flag her down and she doesn’t seem interest. So I go to the bar to ask for our waitress and he tells me TO GO FIND HER. Excuse me?
So at this point I’m thoroughly annoyed. She comes over and gives us our bill which I then write a song lyric in the tip section. I have never NOT tipped in my entire life. But I felt stupid giving this disgrace of a waitress anything.
Never asked if we wanted another drink. Never asked how we were doing.
Drinks were awful, the whole group of us were sick from the drinks. the table next to us said the food was awful. Never coming here again.
If you like long waits, overpriced meals. And shitty attitudes, by all means, you should go here.

A great location on Thayer St. with a cool décor. Service was good but the sushi was just okay. Kind of pricey for so-​so sushi.

Okay this place is definitely underrated and a place to check out. There is something do magical about s place that full of bright lights and sharks. Yes real sharks are swimming inside at the bar. Try to avoid the table and go straight for the bar.
Order a sushi or anything to get your mind off fringe week. The music and décor is worth experiencing even for a night. I got the salmon roll and it was nice.

Gave this place another try on Tuesday for my sister’s birthday. We had Julia as our waitress. We had a party of 17 people (not that bad). I felt like our waitress was handling the front room and back room. There was a lot of employees on so I don’t understand why it was so unorganized. Took us a while to get our drinks and we order some beers. Also some people did not want to order food because we couldn’t find our waitress. We actually had to hunt her down just to get our orders in. My friend asked for spicy mayo and never got it. It took so long to get her attention that she finally came around to say the kitchen will be closing… well we couldn’t find you. We started to laugh but apparently it was not funny to her.

Terrible service. food came out extremely late and cold, many ‘complications’ with our orders. the sauce in my pasta was dry as was my chicken. Waitress over charged my card twice. absolutely never again.

Came here last weekend for date night with my boyfriend. I had been to Shark a few other times and loved it but hadn’t been in about a year. Upon reading the more recent reviews on Unilocal,we were a bit apprehensive but decided to give it a go anyway.
We did the complimentary valet which was convenient. The hostess most definitely did not have the «mostest». She seemed very bothered by the fact that she had to help us. Didn’t even crack a smile. She pointed to a table near the bar and said «You can sit here.» When we asked if we could sit at the clearly empty table outside, she said «Oh. I guess so.» She escorted us outside. Our server was very nice, I will say that. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and sushi for our meal along with a Sangria bowl.
While we were waiting for our food, the waitress informed us that the kitchen «made the wrong thing» and that our appetizer was not made. She brought out our sushi first, then the appetizer but thankfully comped the app from our bill. This isn’t her fault, I understand shit happens but it was still aggravating. The sushi, oysters and sangria bowl were all delicious. Which is the reason for my 3 stars. The service was less than up to par. I think the girls here could use a lesson in customer service or at least how to smile. Gave off the vibe as if they were too good to be helping us. We might be back, but only for the Thayer st. view and the humongous alcoholic beverages.
This place has so much potential. It’s a real shame that the staff sucks.

Stopped in here for a couple of beers and apps. The appetizers took over 45 minuets. The table was dirty and our waitress was no where to be seen. The Dumplings were good and the terraki chicken was O.K. Would have tried more but the wait and the lack of attention from the staff was enough to make me want to grab my check and run…
TIP: no beers on draft all bottles and they do not have angry orchard or Guinness both on my menu!

Terribly slow service, considering the fact that we were the only party in for lunch.
30 – 40 min wait for food, which was not what we ordered (nagiri sushi came instead of sashimi, vegetarian salad had bacon on top).
Rise under the nagiri was terrible (mushy and ill-​formed).

Never felt so uncomfortable in my life. I don’t like to leave bad reviews but honestly this was bad. I liked the atmosphere which is what brought us inside. Loved the shark tank. But the service was actually so bad we had to get up and leave. It look 15 minutes for someone to bring over menus meanwhile there was only like 4 people there. No one came over to bring us water. But there was a group of people that worked there just hanging out by the side of the bar. They couldn’t have made it any more obvious they didn’t want to serve us. Another 10 – 15 minutes goes by with no one coming over to take our order and we were so hungry that we had no choice but to get up and go somewhere else. I was surprised when we were thanked and told to have a good night on our way out. Sadly that was the only service we received. Not sure yet if I would come back to actually try the food.

Worst service and worst sushi. I have been to shark three different occasions and something has gone wrong each time.
Tonight I got lobster tempura sushi DO NOT GET IT! Flavorless, tempura outside of the rice instead of the lobster. I asked for the sauce on the side and that was not done. My waitress did not ask if I liked my food she just saw my face.
My other guests did not enjoy the seafood platter and a steak meal. Overpriced bad food.
Service is horrible as well. It look 1 hour and 20 minutes to have the food come out.
The first time I came here I was shorted $ 5. I immediately grabbed the waitress’s attention. She then took $ 5 out of her pocket.
The second time I ordered hookah and after 20 minutes was told they didn’t have anymore hookah. After complaining the waitress brought over a hookah and two shots on the house. This is the only reason I decided to come a third time.
Unbelievable, I will NEVER be back!

If you want that combination of what Rhode Island thinks is New York style and have over priced food and horrible service. This is your place. It’s like going to a strip club but there are no strippers yet the drink prices are astronomical. Our waitress was so unprofessional. Complains about working there the whole time. I couldn’t talk to anyone at my table (which was a 3 foot round plastic table) because of the music level. It was the. Decibel level of a dance club yet no dance floor or anyone dancing. I was truly confused.

This place is just awful and I will never come back here again! I went there with some friends around the holidays a couple of years ago after it just opened and was pleasantly surprised. So when we needed a place to eat dinner on Thayer street a couple of months ago, I thought Shark was a great idea. I don’t know what happened between when this place opened and now, but it really has gone downhill. I already knew the menu choices weren’t anything to be impressed by but I remembered the food tasting ok. I definitely don’t remember it being as bad as it was this time around. The sushi was badly prepared and way overpriced for what it was. Also if you are going to cater to different types of tastes, you might want to consider a few meatless dishes on your menu, especially where sushi is involved.
To add to food issues, our silverware was dirty and my water glass had a lipstick imprint on it like it was never washed. Upon seating down I ordered Sauvignon Blanc and the waitress didn’t even know what that was. Needless to say I will not be trying this place again.

Shark has a really great atmosphere with its fish tank with sharks and blue lighting. The strange movie on the wall often made the food unappetizing, however.
The sushi was acceptable, although nothing special between these rolls and other sushi places on Thayer. The kamikaze bowl, however, was delicious and should be shared between friends!
Where Shark really fell was its service. Our Waiter was not present throughout the meal, and in fact didn’t acknowledge me even after I walked through the empty restaurant to join my table. We kept wondering if our waiter was having a bad day, or whether this was the norm at Shark.

good sushi. Good scorpion bowl style drinks. However i found it very small and too cluttered. sat at a small high stooled table and had to deal with constant traffic going by us and loud music. more of a clubbish scene than a restaurant

Shark is hard to miss. It has bright blue lights and plays eardrum-​shattering music, both of which are especially prominent on weekend nights. The outdoor seating is fun to take advantage of during those summer evenings, and there’s plenty of space inside if you prefer that.
The only food I’ve eaten from here was a taste of my roommate’s lobster mac and cheese takeout. It was decently creamy and had a few pieces of lobster in it. It was also overpriced. My one actual visit to Shark was late on a weeknight, and it involved a Scorpion fishbowl shared amongst five people. Strong, strong drinks. But the tacky neon interior and too-​loud-​to-​hear-​your-​neighbour music just aren’t worth it for me.

I walked past this place a few times on your street. But never stop then because it was always crowded. Being that it was a Wednesday in the early evening this look like a good time to go. Parking at this time of day was excellent. I even got a spot right up front. Was greeted at the door by the hostess. That’s such a lost art these days.
Service was excellent, the Décor was spectacular. the most amazing thing about the place was the shark tank behind the bar it was great. The calamari was really good and the bruschetta with shrimp was to die for!
A little pricey for seafood, but definitely worth it.

We just ate at Shark for dinner this evening. After reading a few reviews regarding service here we were skeptical but went anyway. Our server was Danny and he was wonderful, he was attentive with our drink orders, cleared out table and offered us dessert all in a timely manner. Even the busser and hostess was on the ball. they refilled our water and cleared our table of menus.
To start we ordered a lobster tempura roll, and for our entrees we ordered the baked stuffed lobster and steak kabobs. I ordered steak medium however it came out medium rare, I am not overly picky about my steak so I enjoyed it otherwise. We ordered the green tea fried ice cream for dessert which was mediocre but my espresso martini made up for it.
As far as service goes, when I go out to dinner I want to enjoy the experience, not get rushed through. Danny was fantastic, he wasn’t overbearing yet was attentive at the same time. It’s not a matter of the servers being bad, it’s really just that perhaps the restaurant is understaffed or doesn’t have enough servers on at a time. Overall, our experience was 4 stars and I would certainly go back
