Love this place! There’s not many stores like this anymore, and I could spend hours going through all the old cd singles and LPs. Great variety, lots of fun stuff — my only complaint is there could be twelve copies of the same item spread throughout the store, so it makes going through everything a pain. Feels like you’re searching for a needle in a gaystack!

Know your audience — and the owner of PTown Spin definitely does. The music you would expect to be of most interest and demand is featured most prominently on the left wall as you enter… dance music, party music, club music, etc., and it’s easy enough to spot even if your eyes are still bloodshot from last night’s events. Take the time to look beyond that, and if it’s your first time here or you don’t come here regularly, maybe a half-hour or so if you really like looking for deals. The center island has a selection of new and used CDs by an incredibly large variety of artists, current and past. The front of the store has a bargain section which has even more selections. That can be very interesting if you like specific acts whose music you can’t find elsewhere. I’ve had good luck finding music by a number of European acts here whose music can be a bit tougher to find at more conventional music stores. If you enjoy music, you should also spend some time chatting with the owner. He’s very much up on the music scene on Cape Cod and Boston.

If you like electronic music, you have to stop here. The store is packed full of stuff like trance, house, and remix CDs. Buying stuff on the internet robs you of the fun of browsing through a mountain of music like you can do here, so stop in and enjoy an actual physical music buying experience(and support and awesome local business too).

There was an Onion article years ago that I’ve always remembered, about a Chinese laundry owner being taken to task for reinforcing ethnic stereotypes. I was reminded of it when I walked into this tiny dance-music shack on Commercial, because somebody should really sue these guys for reinforcing gay stereotypes. It’s the Ground Round jukebox of gay dudes. Barbra Streisand? Check! Paris Hilton? Check! 30 compilation dance discs featuring half-naked dudes on the cover? Oh yes. It’s hard to know what to rate this place, because if you’re a walking homosexual stereotype you will probably love it. If, however, you’re not gayer than Doogie Howser, P-Town Spin has nothing for you.
