It’s a great neighborhood store, it’s not too large and you can find what you need and get out quickly. I have used it several times while I’ve been in Provo. Never too long of lines and the employee’s are more than wiling to help if you need something, don’t hesitate to ask.

Everyone here is really nice. It’s convenient for us, but the secret is the pharmacy is super fast. Whether we drop off and wait 2 minutes or call in from home with 6 prescriptions and come by 10 minutes later it is amazing compared to those bigger chins where you have to come back in 2 hours.

Oh Allen’s… how I love to hate you. I come here a lot because it’s conveniently located near my work. Needless to say, I’m here twice a month or more. I give this place 2 stars, instead of one, because the service provided there is always wonderful. The people who work at Allen’s are kind and genuinely helpful. They’re not the most peppy of the bunch, but they’re willing to help you with any questions you have. Now, onto the scathing review. The prices here are UN-BE-LIEVABLE. I cannot deal with the prices at this store. They’re so expensive. Everything costs at least a few more dollars here than at any other store. I don’t know why. I can’t pay this much for lower quality items. Speaking of quality, they are RIDICULOUS low quality. The cold section of produce, that which gets watered, is alright. Sometimes I can’t find anything fresh, but it’s not always guaranteed. The non-refrigerated part is awful. Not a fresh avocado or tomato to be seen in the whole store. And it will cost you 5 bucks for a single rotten one. The store has definitely seen better days. The tile is falling apart, the carts are rusted over, and the aisle fixtures look like a single bump from a rusted cart will cause it to collapse and bury you in Kroger brand spaghetti noodles priced at 8 dollars a bag. There is usually only one checkout line open, with a line extending far back. The checkout stands are at least 54 years old. Sorry Allen’s. If you weren’t so darn convenient to shop at, I would never set foot in here again.

Depressingly slow with a surplus of depressed people on both sides of the register. I’m surprised Allen’s has been around as long as they have.

It has taken 8 months, but Allen’s is slowly winning me over. Due to the close proximity, we have stopped by Allen’s for last minute grocery needs. They carry all of the basics, and the employees have always been really friendly. I have even purchased more dairy products without any expiration problems. Another random plug for Allen’s– they are the only grocer where I have found RIPE avacados! Everywhere else sells those solid, green rocks that are a week out from delicious. But Allen’s understands that you can’t always plan a week ahead for a guac craving. Are there better grocers out there? Sure. But Allen’s will do in a pinch, and after some initial bad luck, they have consistently delivered.

We have a bit of a love hate relationship with Allen’s. It is super close to our house which is fantastically convenient, however it is not a great grocery store compared to others in the area. However framed in the correct way, I have come to terms with the place that Allen’s has in my life. Allen’s is a wrung lower down the ladder than, Macey’s and two wrungs down from Smith’s. It is kind of dirty, the selection isn’t great, the prices aren’t great, and we have had some problems with the freshness of their products. The produce never looks very appealing. We have purchased frozen cinnamon rolls which ended up being very expired and didn’t turn out right. We bought a block of cheese that ended up being covered with mold under the wrapper. So in general we go to Smith’s to buy groceries. That being said, Allen’s does have a place in the world. For me it is more of a convenience store than a grocery store. If we are cooking dinner and realize we have forgotten an ingredient we will run over and get it from Allen’s. And for this purpose Allen’s is just fine. Where Allen’s actually shines however is in their selection of mexican food. They have a really good selection of Mexican food ingredients. And the staff is always friendly and helpful.

Allen’s Market in Provo is probably best described as a medium sized market with a small town feel. Its storefront on 300 south and not quite 700 East puts it just out of mainstream retail area and helps it feel more like a neighborhood market. The size of the store and selection of products place it in the full-size grocery store genre. So there it sits, in the medium category. I like medium. When I got the assignment to go pick up the drinks, ice, and cups for a big group of thirsty dudes, I only had to go a few blocks to Allen’s. I was was able to avoid the traffic and hassle of other large grocery stores in the area, but still got a huge selection and low prices. I was in and out in a hurry, much to the liking of my thirsty companions. Look for national brands as well as the house Western Family brand; Allen’s is a part of the Associated Foods family. They also have a pharmacy at this location. The employees were helpful, but I wish they would have smiled a little more. They’re good at their jobs, the store was clean, checkout a breeze, but no one seemed to be enjoying themselves. I guess I can’t blame them. It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon perfect for going outside and sipping a cold beverage with your buds.
