I’ve stopped in the Celtic Ray over the last years but especially the last few weeks I find myself in Punta Gorda Its a Irish pub with an authentic Irish feel like no where else but Ireland. the music keeps your foot tapping and Irish smiles on so many faces The only thing negative thing I find is their no Table service. You must go up to the bar to order food & drinks? They call off your name when Lunch/dinner is ready and if you want another drink up to the bar you must go. Well i guess no tipping is a plus.(for some reason the Celtic Ray thinks Irish pubs have no wait staff in there pubs, which is not true) The Celtic Ray has a limited menue since the new kitchen is still under construction.(seems like very long time) the fish/chips potato & Leek soup and little toastie sandwich are my favorite. Best Beer Larger Stout on tap. No domestic beer here. I’ll be back St. Paddy’s Day week festivities

Really neat, simple Irish pub with character and REAL Irish beer and food. Have been a couple of times. Friendly staff and live music often. Last night there was a two piece Irish folk band. Really cool. The place was packed. They are in the process of expanding and re-modeling their kitchen so the menu is pretty much just fish and chips, but it’s really good. I like the place, recommend it and will be going back often.

Decent place for a drink and bar foods in the Punta Gorda area. They were in the process of expanding last time we went, so I’m excited to see the improvements. Just wish they had some blue cheese, ranch, or other dip for the chicken. Ketchup doesn’t work for me. Bartenders always quick and accurate, always offer a good suggestion.

Best part is the atmosphere and the great bartenders! Saturday evening there’s live music and the crowd has been fun both times we’ve visited. Kitchen is under construction so menu was limited and our food was therefore only so so during this visit(Dec 2015). Can’t wait to stop there next time we’re in Florida to see how the place looks & order off the full menu, post the remodel. I’ll update my review then!

We had been sitting at a table for almost 2 hours and were forced to give it up. We had driven from Fort Myers just to see our favorite band play and there was no good reason to take our table. The staff was incredibly rude and inconsiderate. I will never return to this establishment. They only cater to locals and treat everyone else like garbage. This bar is not worth your time. Not to mention the fact that they overcharge for everything. Don’t go here.

Fish and chips… Delicious! The fish was within the top 10% of the best fried fish I have ever had… Lightly battered, cooked perfectly and flaky! Delicious! The fries were very good too! Guinness: Poured correctly and very enjoyable! Coleslaw, bread & tartar sauce: Average. I’ve had much much better. In my opinion they should all be more flavorful! I also asked for mayonnaise and I was told they didn’t have any… Not sure what they made the mayonnaise based coleslaw with, but I enjoy some with ketchup on our fries. Service: We sat outside, because it was too nice to be inside for lunch. The bartender was pleasant when we ordered and when he delivered our food, but it would have been nice if he came back out to see if we needed anything else or to get our plates, after we finished. Ambiance: We didn’t hangout much inside, but the outside seating was nice, but the road traffic is too close and busy to really enjoy it. Would we come back? Absolutely! This fish was that good! Enjoy!

I ordered a $ 15 beef vindaloo with naan bread and what I got was the smallest plate of curry I’ve ever seen and a third of one naan — yes the cut one naan bread into three pieces and gave me one third — sorry but for $ 15 I need a plate that can fill up a 6 yr old at least Yes I did mention the small portion to a male bartender — it was obvious and cutting a single naan bread into thirds and only getting one of them is very tight considering a naan bread costs pennies !

3 or 4th trip down to Punta Gorda, was deciding what to have for lunch, opted for lunch with a view but went with Celtic rays. What a great choice, great bar and pub, it’s seat yourself and order at the bar, remember your table number. Me and my companion order the fish and chips, I order the large and she order the reg, they came to our table quickly, my fish filled the plate, first bite it was crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside and man you know it came fresh from the kitchen, it was steaming hot. The fish was great, not salty or over cocked and tasted fresh off the boat, which down in Florida most of it does. We finished our main and decided to try their two desserts listed on the board, one was Jameson bread pudding the other was an Irish tart, these two blow us away, the bread pudding was outstanding, but the tart, which actually came out as a chocolate mousse pie for simply terms was out of this world, it’s Bailey Irish cream, mix d with Cadbury chocolate and whipped so light and so fluffy it was almost floating, the filling was so creamy it was like eating a chocolate cloud. If you only just have a chance to go for a drink and dessert then thats a must!

I love The Celtic Ray!!! I stopped in last week for lunch and sat at the bar since it was just me. The Breton chicken was incredible! It was like the best pot pie you’ve ever had. And absolutely STUFFED with chicken! The vibe in this place is great. I never feel funny or out of place to go in by myself. Of course, it’s always better when I can share a meal with a friend. ;-) Everything I’ve eaten in this place is great: fish ‘n chips, lamb shanks, Scotch egg, Breton chicken. I’m trying to work my way through the menu, but keep going back for things I love. Guess that means I’ll have to go more often!

Had lunch here today and really enjoyed the cool atmosphere, friendly staff and patrons as well as the food. As you can see from the picture we ordered the medium order of fish and chips @$ 11, a cup of potato leek soup @$ 5 and two 20 oz drafts(Amstel’s) @$ 5 each. The soup was tasty, the potatoes were cooked through and it was nicely spiced. It was just a little bit on the thick side. The beer battered deep fried Icelandic Cod with fries was fabulous. If you buy one of their shirts and wear it on a Monday into the restaurant they’ll give you your second drink for free. Innovative marketing.

I’m Irish, «Conner», and have been to Ring of Killarney and many other areas of Ireland. I will tell you hands down this Pub takes me back to Ireland! hands down the best atmosphere and great staff. The décor is identical to pubs in Ireland. Beer is great and the food is even BETTER. you know it’s a fun place when you stop in for a drink and a bite to eat and stay for more than 4 hours! they also have live music so make sure to see when.

We stopped here on our way home to have dinner with the intent to leave shortly after eating. Little did we know that we would enjoy the company and staff so much, we would end up staying for 6 hours! We started with entrees of chicken curry, and stuffed cabbage with soda bread accompanied by two dark and story cocktails. The food was amazingly authentic and delish and before we could leave, we were drawn in by the family atmosphere and we were«forced» to stick around longer to listen to open mic night.(Even through the pain of having to listen to some of them) We made friends of strangers and that is something that just doesn’t happen every day. Whether you are a local resident looking for a good draft beer, or just passing through and wanting a classic Irish meal, this is the place to go! We can’t wait to visit again!
