This is a pretty decent bookstore with many many choices. They carry all kinds of books. Books from new releases to old clearance books and in all different genres. The employees are all very nice but a bookstore is a place of silence, most of the time. Some of the employees like to engage in conversation, which is fine with me, but not when I’m looking for books to read. Other than that, I enjoy this bookstore. B+!

This is a wonderful find! My husband and I were on our way to visit family in Englewood, FL and we decided to stop in on a whim. We are certainly glad we did. Right from the start we were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. The owner(I’m assuming) and I had a laugh over the fact that we both have purple hair which was a nice coincidence. My husband immediately found what he was looking for in their«Game of Thrones» section. The store is nicely organized while still maintaining a very comfortable atmosphere. The store’s cat was an absolute joy and followed us around for a few minutes. As we made our way through the store, one of the employees brought out a harp and began to play. It was lovely and such a joy to listen to. I was classically trained in the flute and hearing someone else keeping art alive was fabulous. After spending well over an hour in the store we had to make our purchase. We could have easily spent the rest of the day roaming the store. After we checked out, my husband noticed one of the books had been rung up incorrectly and asked the owner, who had checked us out, about the correct price. She was incredibly apologetic and refunded the purchase to the correct amount immediately. I truly enjoyed our time at Sandman Book Company and I made sure to tell all of my friends back home in the Fort Myers area that it is well worth the drive. I can’t wait to go back!

Help me, Kitty Wan Kenobi! you’re my only hope… to find something unusual to read in the Punta Gorda area. Billing itself as Southwest Florida’s largest independent bookstore, Sandman Books is a great place for a bibliophile to spend an afternoon poking around. I do mean this literally because things are rather disordered: in MANY places, items were organized by theme but within that section nothing was alphabetized, so you really would want to pick through if you were seeking something specific. That said, they have tons of stock, so you will likely find something worthwhile. Many things are rare though and can be $$. There is a nice section of Florida-related material(history, wildlife etc.) and a TON of books by a local author near the front(did he have a signing and this was the overstock?) One big plus(for me) was the presence of Kitty Wan Kenobi, the bookstore cat. We almost tripped over him coming around a corner, but he still came back to be petted :) I assume he is the cat in their logo, and his name is even on the business cards! The lady behind the counter wasn’t super approachable, so that was a bit of a turn-off. But you can look past some of the drawbacks because of the store’s incredible architectural feature: a huge archway made of recycled books! It’s really a wonder of the literary world. Overall, Sandman is really worth a stop if you’re anywhere in the area(I made a trip from far, far away and was sure to visit: I read about it when I last came to see family in Pt. Charlotte, but we couldn’t fit a trip in during the shop’s narrow window of open hours. Still, it was intriguing enough to make a stopover on this trip). In any galaxy this is a great place to find a book!

This is a wonderful bookstore, truly a gem. They have tons of books at very good prices. I make sure to stop by every time I’m in Florida. They have a cool, laid back atmosphere and even a shop mascot with their cat. I usually leave with 5 or 6 books for only $ 25!

I travel all over the U.S. Just to visit bookstores & this is one of the best I’ve ever been in! It has everything a great bookstore needs-excellent selection, organized, a cat, & great prices. Lose a star for the few negatives I found. One is the location. I like off the beaten path, but the store is miles away from main road in a strange little strip mall with Subway off of Burnt Store Road. Also, the person working was okay, but not very friendly that day(this person was not the owner). I will definitely be back.

This place is great! Clean, organized, and huge selection of used books. The head guy(owner?) and his son were super helpful and friendly. Will be back when we come to town again.

This store is great they have both new and used books. Her trade in policy is generous and the book prices are reasonable. It encourages you to try books you might not otherwise have wanted to spend money on. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, places to sit around the store if you would like to stop and read a little. It is a gem that should not be missed.

An actual bookstore? In remote SW Florida? Yes! And it is definately worth the drive to check this place out. It is on Burnt Store Road just north of BSM. Very friendly and helpful owner. Our daughter love the resident cat. We are looking forward to checking out the recent expansion.
