If you are looking to just play with every gun you see just to hold it, then go to gander mountain. Once you decide what you are looking for, go in and ask. You will then find that the prices are much cheaper than any big box sporting goods store. Also cheaper than the surrounding small gun stores. The owner is a one man operation with no other help. I guess that’s why the prices are so good! The store is small but packed to the ceiling. Cases of ammo everywhere! If you are «just looking», tell him that when you go in. My kind of old school gun store. Just don’t ask stupid questions unless you want a stupid answer!

I came to this shop to purchase a GLOCK pistol. The price was right and there were ZERO hassles doing business here.
I was very impressed at how much inventory they had stocked up in that tiny store! They really have a lot of stuff. Antiques, surplus, NFA, modern sporting rifles, shotguns and handguns are all there.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. All the benefits of a small mom&pop-type shop (owner behind the counter; personal touch; local owner) with the best prices around. Selection is fine and he’ll gladly get you any gun you need.
I drive 30 minutes (and pass 2 other gun stores) to buy at Purcell.

Most people that walk in may be taken back or offended by Dale and walk out before they get an opportunity to have one of the best and most interesting experiences in a gun store that they ever had. Most of you think you are «entitled» to shop here. If you ask a stupid question you will get some sarcasm. Dale is a down to earth good hearted person, but most of you will not get through the surly but well meaning tough exterior. He has the best prices around and will go out of his way to help you, Just like the rest of his staff.

Has ammo when MegaloMart and Richard’s are both out.

Good shop with a decent selection of new and used firearms. The folks are helpful. The owner is quite knowledgable and «tells it like it is.» You will get a fair deal at this shop.

Surprisingly Good Selection. Been looking for weeks for Colt 1911s Government models. «Big» gun store would have 1 or maybe 2 high end models. Purcell had 6! From a basic o1991 to a rail gun and even a 100th anniversary model. Service is great. Just wait your turn. This is not a fast food type gun shop. Prices are better than any other local shop and match most online prices. (Better once you add shipping and FFL fees). Do yourself a favor and stop buy for a look before you buy anywhere else.

Nice small gun store with a solid selection of new and used firearms. Good ammo selection and prices as well.
They seems to have a lot of old collectible m1 carbines and some other nice old military rifles along with some new black rifles.

Lovettsville, VA
Great shop with a widely varied selection of firearms. From personal defense to hunting this shop has it all. They also stock any ammo that you need. They already have quite a supply, but if you tell them what you need, they’ll keep ordering it for you. The gentleman has given me info on local ranges and a gunsmith for cleaning and repairing old firearms. Go — while you still can!

A lot of people don’t like the owner to Purcells because they say he is too grumpy. Dale, the owner, is a good guy and is very friendly and knowledgeable. He just dose not appreciate false war stories or other annoying conversation topics. Stick with asking questions related to what you are looking for/​at and you’ll see what I mean.
The pricing at Purcells is much more reasonable than at Loudoun Guns in Leesburg. Purcells also sells military surplus items at good a very good price.
