Taco Del Mar

We love Taco Del Mar, and we especially love this location! We dine here a few times a month, and the staff has really taken the time to get to know my family on a personal level. The owner, Shan, is especially sweet to our children, and make them feel that they are just as valued as customer as the paying adults. The staff and the fish tacos keeping us coming back on a regular basis.

First of all, I frequent this location multiple times a week. I love the employees who are always more than happy to help, and make our food. Thank you guys.
The owner here is terrible. She is obnoxious and completely rude approaching tables while you’re eating. She is also disrespectful to her employees as well as her guests. There is no trust from the owner to the employees. The prices of certain things have increased immensely and she is behind all of it. The owner neglects to remember employee breaks and rarely allows them a chance to eat during their shifts. She should really rethink how she treats everyone.
I’ll leave with this; if it weren’t for the employees, I would never step foot in that place again.

First time visiting this restaurant. It wasn’t a bad experience but it wasn’t a great one either. I ordered the chicken burrito bowl and boy was it small and was disappointed that the chicken was shredded chicken, should had went to chipolte! Dont get me wrong, the food wasnt bad, its just The price I paid for the burrito bowl was definitely not worth it. I dont know or understand how this restaurant chain is still a chain, I would had though it was a mom and pop fast food restaurant just by the décor. I wont be back.

LOVE eating here! My family and I come in at least once a week. All the employees are super nice… and always interact with my kids. The food NEVER disappoints!!!

Good location.
Good service.
Quality is consistent.
Food is on the healthier side of fast food for sure.

This is one of the better taco del mar’s. The owner is usually there when we come in and he treats us like family. Good food at a good price. Sunday, kids eat free with other purchase.

Great place to dine. Can’t get better fast food anywhere. The crew is fast, courteous and fun.

Alright a few cons that have happened lately.
They hired this larger white woman who is very stingy with the scoups of everything… she levels it off and i ask for a bit more she tries to charge me… not cool.
I pay extra for guac and your gunna give me just a tiny bit?
Also i come here often and i ring up my burritos seperate so i can use my 5dollars off on the next one. Well i tried to do that and he was very mad at me and gave me a horrible attitude. I was confused and scared and just said «i was going to do them seperate that way it works» and he got frustrated and voiced how annoyed he was with me. I ended up getting the discount but it made me feel really awkward and hurt/​offended by how i was talked to. I work customer service and thats now how you talk to paying customers. Especially regulars.
Skipping this taco del mar and going somewhere else im very hurt.

The worst Taco Del Mar around !!! Has a new owner I believe and it was fairly decent before him now it sucks. Prices are sky high & the bathrooms are always dirty. The one on Canyon road is better run.

Always friendly when I went there. Food tastes perfect, just the right temperature. Just a little pricey, but worth it and portioned very generously. The inside appeared very small and I wouldn’t chose to eat there. I always got mine to go. :) try it out.

Great Taco Del Mar Food… as good as it gets! So glad it got a new remodel! Been a customer since 2006 and love that the same gals still work here! The new people are super nice too! Thank you Taco Del Mar!

I love Taco Del Mar, but HATE this location!
It changed ownership about a year ago, and has noticeably made a change for the WORSE.
1. Their food is always cold. They don’t keep lids on the food and it is always luke warm. Chips, queso, refried beans. You name it, it’s cold. (The owner ought to check out the TDM on 26^th & Pearl in Tacoma. They manage to keep the lids on the hot stuff and to assemble food quickly. I have seen the owner there training and demonstrating his technique for this over and over to new staff. The result? The HOT meal I paid for!!)
2. Too many cooks in the kitchen. I have never been to a Taco Del Mar that was SO overstaffed, yet under-​serviced. This is a really small place to begin with. Then, you add 4 staff persons behind the counter and it’s a real zoo! It’s so crowded they are bumping into each other, yet they have such poor communication. You can’t get a burrito made from start to finish by 1 person. It is touched by 4 different people and they still manage to get your order wrong! I know profit margins are slim for a fast food franchise like this, so how do they manager to remain profitable when they are clearly overstaffed?
3. «Would your like to add guacamole and sour cream for $ 1extra?» This phrase make me want to stab myself in the ear with a screwdriver! I get it. You are trying to up-​sell. You are trying to make it clear to the customer that sour cream and guacamole are not already included in the price of their burrito. Is it possible to mix it up and try a few new ways to phrase the question?
«Will we be adding sour cream or guacamole today?»
«Can I add guacamole to your order today?»
Please! You sound like a broken record. Anything than your stupid OLD phrase for the love of God.
4. Lastly, and perhaps the worst part of this shop is the OWNER who stands at the cash register as if she is afraid to let anyone else near it. (C’mon! Are you the only fast food joint in town that can’t train or trust your staff to run the register?!). There used to be a lady like that who owned the Quiznos on 38^th St in Tacoma. They’re out of business now. She stands there like a bump on a log and barely interacts with the guests or staff. She ought to be setting a more appealing tone for the restaurant. She should be getting right into the meal prep with her staff. Show some leadership! She should regularly be taking customer orders and demonstrating to her staff HOW it should be done. The staff consists mainly of teenage girls. They don’t have tons of work or customer service experience. If the owner is going to take up space out front, she should be demonstrating over and over again HOW it should be done, then giving her staff the chance to execute what they have been taught.

First of all, I don’t get why this is mapped wrong. The address is correct, but the pointer is nowhere near 38^th & Meridian. That’s not the fault of Taco Del Mar, it’s just not THERE. It’s right next to TJ Maxx (same shopping center as BECU, Jamba Juice, Petco, Office Depot, Starbucks, etc.) across from South Hill Mall. So if you’re looking for it, ignore where the maps say it is, because you won’t find it.
Anyway, I usually really enjoy Taco Del Mar. That is, I really enjoy OTHER locations. This one has left me disappointed time and time again. They are incredibly hit and miss, and it’s almost always a BIG FAT MISS. Even when the SAME person is making the SAME thing side by side, they come out completely different. One will be overflowing while the other one looks like it was made for a small child. Sometimes there isn’t very much meat. Sometimes there isn’t very much ANYTHING. Last time we were there, my husband and I both ordered a Mondo Burrito. The same girl made them both at the same time. His was huge. Tons of rice, beans, and a lot of meat. Mine looked like something I could get at Taco Bell for less than half the price.
The first time it happened (the other way around that time, so I know it’s not just me), I thought it was a fluke. The second time, I thought maybe it was because I ordered it weird (I asked for just a small amount of beans). But the hit and miss ratio is just way too lopsided, and after the last time, I won’t be going back. I didn’t say anything other than «Yes, please» to all the ingredients and what kind of meat and sauce I wanted on it. But all of the portions were incredibly lacking compared to the burrito sitting not six inches away from it! For what a Mondo burrito costs, I don’t think it’s too much to expect some consistency in the amount of mondo in my burrito.
That said, I’ve never had this issue at other locations, ONLY this one. Every other location I’ve been to seems to have standardized portions in standard quantities. This is the only location where I’ve consistently walked away feeling gypped.
1 star because they’re at least nice while they rip me off. +1 more star for using Pirq. I MAY go back just to fill my Pirq card and get my $ 5 dollar discount.
UPDATE ⁰⁸⁄₁₃: Removing a star. If I could remove both, I would. I just went back to use my $ 5 Pirq discount and guess what? They don’t use Pirq anymore, and wouldn’t even honor my FULL Pirq card! Clearly these people don’t care about their customers at all. I will NOT be returning to this place EVER again.

Uh Yumm! Every time that i go to Taco Del Mar I pretty much get the same thing because it is so amazing. People that work there are nice and friendly food is great!!! Would go there everyday if a could but that would be pushing it haha, but I would recommend this to anyone defiantly need to try!!!
