Understaffed and consistently receiving state inspection findings of deficiencies in quality of care. Residents are not well hydrated and those who have limited speech and can’t speak for themselves, are severely dehydrated. The communication among staff is woefully limited. One hand doesn’t know what the other is doing. Worse yet, they all blame it on each other. Poor record keeping. If a resident has a fever, the resident is given Tylenol and no one is told the resident has had a fever for days or weeks. Not even the physicians. A fever is a symptom of an underlying infection. As a result, the resident becomes more and more ill until a family member speaks up and has the resident transported by ambulance to the hospital or the resident dies. Elderly residents are going to die, but they shouldn’t be dying from preventable infections and negligent care.
