I love this place! The girl up front is kind and friendly and I love the food there. It’s flavorful and a nice portion. I come with my boyfriend frequently and he loves it there too. We try to come for lunch special to save a couple bucks but when we miss it and we still want it we still go. And if you want lunch special after the lunch time it’s just a dollar additional. It’s not so pricy. And the food is consistently delicious. One of our favorites is the chicken in garlic sauce. It’s not like anywhere else we’ve ever had it. Just different. And the egg drop soup… I love the egg drop soup there(and I’m very picky with my soup)! I want to try the Chinese lunch box special sometime for $ 5. The options for it changes from day to day. Sounds interesting. I Will update if I order it next time

The Asian Fusion classification is a real stretch. This place serves traditional Chinese/Taiwanese cooking with a couple of «American Chinese Take-Out» and Thai offerings thrown in. I guess they have to if they want to survive in this«off the beaten track» location. Anyone expecting a place with interior design, sushi, dishes made with mango, passion fruit, goji berries, etc. should think twice before coming here. If you don’t mind a fatty dish, Pork Belly with Pickled Greens was very good. So was the tofu casserole and bubble tea. If there are just 1 or 2 of you, ask about their typically Chinese combo of 1 soup + 3 dishes for $ 5. The place is not large, but the tables aren’t crammed in. As mentioned by others, service is friendly, and certain orders(like bubble tea) do take longer to arrive than at similar joints in Flushing or Elmhurst. The central AC works well, so you won’t be sweating here on a hot summer’s day!

Everything I have tried is great! They will modify a dish as needed– no meat extra spicy was no problem. They even remember you!

This is one of the best restaurants in College Point. The service is always with a smile and the food is delicious. I have been eating authentic Asian food for twenty years and their food is always cooked with great care and skill.

Tried the black bean chicken and broccoli. SOGOOD! Still in love with this place and they are delicious as ever. They have a new break from 3 – 4 during Monday through Friday, so just know that incase you want to order for takeout or pickup or just to go dine in. Super good and everyone should try it! Do not know why people give it low ratings. They are the best!

New Canaan Restaurant is definitely one of the top three Chinese restaurants in College Point and definitely top two on this stretch of College Point Blvd. Things that stand out. The daily Chinese Lunch Box Special is just $ 5 for take out. Usually consists of rice, soup, two selections of steamed or stir-fried vegetables, and one meat(most often chicken or pork). The meat dish is usually braised in a traditional Chinese style(think soy, a little sugar, ginger, five-spice) and is always delicious. Overall, a fantastic value for what you get and always a good surprise. This place in general makes an effort to not use too much oil and I’ve never detected MSG in their dishes. So on the healthy side of Chinese food. The waitstaff is actually really friendly and will remember you if you eat there on even a semi-regular basis. On the downside, they sometimes seem critically understaffed especially during busy lunch services, so plan for that if you are planning to drop in.

Rarely if ever has Unilocal led me astray, but this was one of those instances where I really could not disagree more with other reviews. I chose this spot for lunch because my mom was visiting and we were venturing out to Target in College Point so I wanted to find something tasty and nearby. Canaan seemed like a great option given the wonderful reviews, and my mom and I are pretty big fans of Asian Fusion. But this was just horrible. I ordered the steamed veggie dumplings which came to the table cold, as though they hadn’t been properly thawed from being in the freezer, and my mom’s chicken teriyaki was deep fried — basically sweet and sour chicken in teriyaki sauce, which I find extremely disappointing for a place with such good reviews for food. To top it all off, the bubble tea that I ordered when we first sat down didn’t arrive until after we were finished eating. Hopefully this was just a one-off bad experience, but I definitely won’t be coming back.

This is my favorite restaurant in College Point. I’ve been coming here sporadically since January 2010. Canaan is a Chinese/Thai restaurant centrally located in the semi-busy College Point Blvd near 14th Ave, and 14th Rd. I usually can’t park on College Point Blvd because of the lack of parking spots. Besides, those spots are metered anyway. To get a free spot, I usually make the turn around the corner of 14th Rd into the neighborhood parking spots. Or if I’m at the Poppenhusen library or coming from the library, I’d secure a spot around the library or College Point Park on 121st Street and walk over. I do not come to Caanan for customer service, but for their food. Every time I walk into their small, cozy restaurant, I see booth seating, square table seating(seats four), and even a medium round table for the«small groups» that I estimate, seats around eight people. The furniture was re-arranged so the round table is now near the windows, the booth seating is pushed to the right side and the regular seating in the middle or left side. Teenagers filled the round table and many non-Asians preferred sitting at the booth seating. I have an aversion to booth seats so I always opt for the regular seats to calm my ripped chair phobia reactions. There aren’t many Asian customers and the majority of customers who eat here is non-Asian. A lot of people buy takeout as well. Our waitress can speak English and I believe the staff speaks some form of Mandarin. After sitting down, it takes a while before the cashier/server acknowledges my husband and I and if the cashier/server is not super busy, then it may be faster. Our server never once served us water automatically. We always had to ask for our drinks. Speaking of drinks, I highly recommend their inexpensive and amazing tapioca drinks for $ 2.75. Strawberry Tapioca has a lot of froth, is sweet, with real strawberries. I have never tasted anything like it. Where else can you get a yummy Tapioca fix without breaking the bank? Coming in at second place would be their Thai ice Tea with Tapioca. While it’s not the best Thai Ice Tea I’ve ever tasted, it is worthy of recognition and drinks with Tapioca adds more fun to the whole experience. The only disappointment is that there are only a handful of choices of bubble tea we can order, but I stick to the strawberry and Thai tea. As for the menu, I’m a fan of Thai food so my choice is usually the Pad Thai with shrimp. The portions are big so there is a chance I take the leftovers home. I love the bean sprouts and peanut flavors. I also get to divert from typical Chinese dishes and order Chinese-American Moo Shu Pork, which is basically shredded pork with vegetables. The term«moo shu» means«shredded.» Again, I took the leftovers home. My husband enjoyed the Singapore Mai Fun, which isn’t that spicy, but still delicious. Some time before our orders come, we are served the usual non-Asian appetizer: crunchy bread with duck sauce on the side. Usually, I finish all of it and our server doesn’t automatically give us more. She simply takes it away when we’re done. We usually have to ask for chopsticks because forks are usually served instead. When it is time to pay, we have the hardest time flagging down our server. She is pretty much a one-woman show, answering phones, packing takeout, making bubble tea, checking with the kitchen staff, etc. Luckily, we were able to pay by credit card because our bill is usually around $ 35. I’ve also ordered takeout from here several times when I was feeling lazy or sick. I wish more customers came to Canaan despite the lack of customer service. The food is really tasty and the bubble tea is one of the best I ever had with a great price. PROS: Strawberry or Thai Bubble tea, Thai food, and Singapore Noodles CONS: lack of customer service, lack of many bubble tea flavors

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars… The food was great, no complain there. Not a lot of places serve Hunan Chicken so I was REALLY happy when I saw it on the menu. The wonton soup was«okay» and nothing special about it. The Sesame Dumplings were weird to me… I couldn’t tell if I liked them… I mean I would order them again because they amused me, the flavor that is but it has left me confused. My friend loved the food too. The only suck part of it? The service was pretty horrible… it was slow and they forgot about my friend’s green tea milkshake. The waitress wasn’t all that talkative either. It’s a cute shop though!

My family frequently orders from them and while they have all of your typical American Chinese take-out menu items, they also have some great Thai and Taiwanese dishes. The Taiwanese items are definitely worth a try(salt and pepper popcorn chicken is one of our favorites). The lunch special option is a great value for the price. They deliver very quickly and the employees are incredibly nice people.

There’s a sweet inviting energy in this place. I always enjoy lunch with a good friend here. The food is great and the service is pleasant. You can’t go wrong, unless you pass up a bubble tea… They make a mean bubble tea!

American, Chinese, Taiwanese & Thai Cuisine I personally recommend their pineapple fried rice, Pad Thai and House special soft shelled crab. Also, the Singapore Rice Noodle is very delightful. I’d say, definitely the best Asian Fusion cuisine in the neighborhood.
