They have the best Tres Leches cake!!! I love tres leches and I always try some in people’s parties or buy a slice from all over the places once a while. How good is their cake I have to describe. The outer layer cream can firmly lock the juice inside the cake. This is very important, some other cakes has a lot of juice too but with time the juice come out thru the bottom. I bought my cake last night that I believe my cake stayed on the shelf for a whole day. By the time I bit on my slice it can still squirt. The cake melt in my mouth then the juice was released just the right amount and temperature. That is the taste of satisfaction and happiness. The only thing I hope they can improve is to put price tags in the store. I had to ask the cashier every single one I got interested and I was interested in everything there.

Light Latin Sweets If I didn’t work in the neighborhood, I would have never known about this chain bakery. Their cakes are light and not overwhelmingly sweet. Their English isn’t so good so you might have trouble ordering if you don’t know what you want. I’m gonna let this secret out that I’ve been keeping for quite a while. Their best cake is a hybrid Tres Leches Cake with cheese cream, with blackberry jam topping. The bottom layer is decadent Tres Leches and the«Cheese Cream» taste like cheese cake. It is called«Moras Con Queso.» I usually don’ enjoy sweets but this Moras Con Queso is one of the best cakes I’ve ever had in my life. They might have a slice if you are lucky but you have to order in advance to acquire a whole cake. Moras con Queso is a must!

So I happened to be looking for pastries along Roosevelt avenue. I came across Pastels Capy by mere chance. I walked in and the store did not seem like a pastry or bakery shop, I found the store to be surgically cleaned. The display at front had several types of sliced cakes but I still had no idea they specialized in tres leches cake. With that in mind I knew tres leches is a delicate cake soaked in evaporated milk, condense milk and fresh cream with different variations. Usually serves with fresh whip cream and a small garnish of fruit on side. Anyways, the lady at the counter described the different variations of tres leches they had for the day. I saw cappuccino tres leches, peach, pineapple, strawberry, chocolate, piña colada and others. So I decided that I would try the cappuccino tres leches. I have to say I was impressed with the quality of the cake and the presentation. A generous slice of cake for $ 3.50 that was delicious, moist and had a combination of chocolate and coffee flavors to it that blended well in every bite. I will definitely come back and buy a whole cake just because it is that good. .I would highly recomended you try the individual slices before buying a whole cake. the experience was well worth it.

I randomly found this cake store along Roosevelt Avenue under the 7 Train. I walked in and realized they had all kinds of tres leches cake. I love tres leches cakes. This cake store/bakery looked really clean from outside. Once I walked inside… it is even more clean which is impressive being that it’s located right underneath the 7 train. There is so much space in this retail store that I didn’t understand why they didn’t make it into a café with tables and chairs. If you are not familiar with what a tres leches cake is, tres leches cake is in Spanish, three milks cake which is a cake that is soaked in three kinds of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. It’s my favorite kind of cake because it’s moist all the time since it’s soaked in milk. The cake doesn’t fall apart… it is wet but without being too soggy. I don’t know how that can be, but it works. Only problem is, I am lactose intolerant… but for this slice of cake, I am willing to take a palm of about 20 lactase enzyme supplements. Capy has a variety of flavored tres leches cakes. Capy is a chain of cake stores that originated in Mexico. Capy mostly sells 9-inch diameter cakes that range from $ 38-$ 45. A 9-inch cake will feed about 12 – 15 people. The best part for me is Capy also sells slices of their cakes. I have tried the almond, mango and peach cake… I loved the mango the most. My boyfriend was making«…Mmmmm…» sounds alternating with exclamations of «…Oh My Gawd!..» at me when we were sharing the mango slice of cake. For $ 3.75, it is sure yummy!
