Dr. Stevens was the one of the most dedicated professor in my college, and also the most popular professor as well. She always picked her class time at Friday night(the most unpopular time in Jewish dominant school), yet her class was always filled up immediately, thus, the psychology department has to move her class size 50 to 100 students every semester, but that filled up quickly too. In fact, I could not get into her classes, but just attended to them on top of my busy full time schedule as many others did because her classes were that good and so valuable! It was much more profitable for her to work at private college or simply working longer hours at her private practice, but she has taught in the public college as long as she could afford to do so because she knew there are no real clinical psychologist would teach the class with that small pay, and she thought it is important to give back to the society. I was determined to become her client once I started to work. After I graduated from Queens college, I started to work at top psychiatrist’s office as a brain stimulation technician and treatment director, and I was allowed to hire mentor because I was treating a lot of severely depressed patients and I was able to utilize her service for over three years 2 hours every week. I have been observing great psychotherapies in my own office with my doctors and therapists, but yet, she introduced me to many more perspectives about psychotherapies, which not only made my stressful work easier and successful one, but also changed the way I look at my life! If she was working in Manhattan, she could charge double of her fee, but she is happily working near her home & family in Queens, and much rather to charge less to help diverse clientele. It was already hard to get her appointments especially in the evening, but she will work it out for you somehow, and I hope many more people have the chance to be her clients to make their live better. I have to say to see her was not only great psychological investment, but also helped me to advance my career and relationships with others! And I forever thankful to her! I hope some people who does not have much of psychiatric problem, I hope they can see her as a mentor or life coach to make their life richer one as it did to my life.
