WOW. Finding this dive bar was a complete accident. Explanation: Ingrid had to pee. Ingrid had to pee bad. The Rockaway Beach is FAR. Before we tottered over to the beach(this was totally late summer/early fall), Steph and I embarked on checking out this skeptical and slightly sketchy looking bar. From the outside I would think nothing of it. Maybe not from the inside either until you sit down and start chatting with some folks. Find out that Smithwicks and some other froths are insanely cheap and under $ 5 for an ice cold bottle and you decide to actually stay for a bit. Some kind of American baseball is playing on the telly and the friendly folks pass over a bowl of these absolutely delicious salty guacamole tortilla chips and tell you to help yourself. This little Irish pub off the beaten path of the beach has some sure charm. I’d definitely come back next time I beach.

I give this bar 5 stars but when Mary B is working. I’d give it 10!!! Sunday nights are the best! Great drink prices, great conversation, and the whiskey goes down just right. After a long day on the beach, I always make an effort to stop in and mingle with the locals at one of the best bars in NYC!

This is one of those I don’t want to write a review and ruin it moments, but praise be to this bar and a special shout-out to Cheryl who was our bartender. My friends and I were enjoying the beach when it started to pour, so we ran back to this bar to wait out the storm. Everyone was super friendly, and we even got a buy back. After the sun came out we went back to the beach, but stopped in again after we were finished. You can get a stiff drink in a pint glass for $ 5, nothing to complain about. Cash only, so hit the ATM. There was also a new style jukebox so you can pick the tunes. We had a blast hanging out here, and I’m sure it will become a regular stop on trips out to the Rockaways!

Moseyed in here on Memorial Weekend after a sunny but windy beach day. We received a warm welcome as soon as we stepped into this joint. A lovely place filled with friendly locals. Bartender(Ellen?) was more than perfect. Made us cheap, stiff drinks — just the way I like ‘em. Had a great time. Hope to be back soon.

The bartender immediately commented on my ID: «of course you’re from Williamsburg! You tell your friends to come in and support local Rockaway business’s. The buses from North Brooklyn, they come and just by-pass all of us mom and pops out here. We are a small fishing town and summer used to be when we made our money». You guys, I love Rippers as much as the next guy but on your walk back to the train come take a shot with Margie and I guarantee you’ll have a laugh and see some real old school local NYC. Also— super strong cheap drinks, amazing regulars and a sharp tongued bartender that is not for nothin perfect. Come here now and support local Rockaway business.
