Mini-mart, Am/pm– might have what you forgot to pack. This is the only store in town… I was impressed to find a thermometer for a sick grandchild that was needed… The last one. If you need to shop and aren’t familiar with the area, make plans to stop way before you get here.

This is a pretty standard Kwick-E-Mart; wouldn’t rate any more than 3 stars except that its the only market in town. Peninsula Foods has several varieties of hot coffee and some pre-made sandwiches and hot food, and a little bit of fresh produce in addition to all the packaged food and sundries you’d expect. They’re only open until 21:00, though, so keep that in mind– its a long way to the next closest store!

4 stars for utility alone. well and the fact that it’s the only store in town, plus it has a giant colorful(obnoxious, hideous, could anyone think this is pretty?) mural painted on the side. the menacing zombie folk congregating outside could probably connect you with anything under the sun you are looking for(except maybe computer access): drugs, a carburator, marijuana, a chainsaw, absinthe, you get the picture. the inside is really it’s shining accomplishment; ice cream cones, hot dogs, espresso, movie rentals, milk, beer and wine(liquor store next door, also with movies), even accommodations to sit down and enjoy your purchase. owned by a pleasant middle eastern family who always somehow remembers me when I go home. charming.

If you’re ever driving through Quilcene on Highway 101, be sure to stop at the Peninsula Store for the best prepared store food ever! If you aren’t into deep-fried food, they may not have what you’re looking for, but if you are… fried chicken, deep fried burritos(very hard to find — hehe), chicken crispito’s… Fantastic. I make my father pick a variety of their deep fried classics nearly every day while I’m home. I know, I know…
