Before I was a skeptic of the whole Gracie’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu system, but when I came here for my first intro private lesson, instructor David opened my eyes on how realistic and effective the system is. He explained and demonstrated on how to utilize each individual techniques in certain scenarios, and let’s you ask questions anytime. You can tell he definitely knows his craft. The instructor is really chill and he really cares about your development not only in martial arts, but as a person. The place itself is fairly big and looks like a traditional karate dojo since it is shared with the karate class that they offer. The floor is hard wooded floor so they practice and spar on mats. They also have a women’s and men’s locker room for you to change and plenty of lockers to put your stuff in. There isn’t any trophies hanging on the walls, which shows that this place isn’t about ego, but about learning and community. I also find Bjj really fun! Since I had such a great experience here after my first private intro class, I signed up for more private one-on-one classes with instructor David. If you’re in the South Shore area and are interested in learning Bjj I would highly recommend to give this place a try. They even offer a 10 day free trial!

I have been training with David Chan for more than a year and a half. He has an incredible amount of experience in a multitude of different forms of self defense. The experience he has gained from being an army combative instructor clearly shows through in his ability to teach anyone something new about every single technique each class, whether they are a seasoned veteran of that particular art, or if it is their very first time taking a self defense class. David is the most dedicated martial artist I have ever met. He is constantly seeking ways to improve his classes which means that every time you practice the same move, no matter how well you think you understand the technique, he adds a new level to your understanding. When I first started my training with David, I had already been practicing Jiu Jitsu for 4 years and had trained with dozens of different practitioners and instructors. David’s classes are by far the easiest environment to develop your self defense skills due to the linear nature of the lessons and friendliness of all our training partners. Everyone that attends the classes is 100% committed to helping others learn just as they are about bettering themselves. If you come try out classes you will not regret it. Whether you come up for just a single class or commit to making it to every class long term you will see great improvements in your abilities as well as benefits to your every day life.
