I haven’t stayed here but I have toured the property and it is prime. They created this vacation rental and lovingly outfitted it for a relaxing and luxurious vacation. It is about halfway between Quitman and Winsboro, in the East Texas Piney Woods. Lovely. The owners also live on the property but there is a large parcel of land and you will not see the main house from the guest house. The cabin is large and beautifully situated with upscale décor and quiet surroundings. There is a nice kitchen, large eating area, massive great room and a loft that will sleep a whole lot of people in beautifully appointed beds. There is also one private bedroom. There is a laundry room in the cabin but use of that facility is extra. The porch has lots of places to sit and relax. I saw a small lake and hiking trails and the whole thing is nestled in large pine trees. There are photos posted on their website, but the pics really don’t do the place justice. It’s much prettier than the photos would imply. Go here to see the pictures: They allow dogs, but I’m not sure they are allowed inside the cabin as there are kennels on the property for the animals. No children are allowed — this is an adults only retreat. I am seriously considering trying this place the next time I’m in Texas but can’t find reviews online. Here’s hoping that a listing on Unilocal will encourage people to review Jerome Cabin so that I can get a feel for what it is actually like to stay here. Really gorgeous and private — I bet it is nice as long as you don’t intend to travel with children. One last word about the climate in the Lone Star State. Texas is a great place to visit after October 15th and before May 15th. It is barely tolerable from May 16th to June 30. July, August, September and early October are too hot for normal people. Fortunately, Jerome cabin is air conditioned, but unless you want to stay inside for your whole vacation, I advise you to make this an autumn, winter or spring retreat. Just my humble opinion.
