Hidden gem in Racine and a true family run business. When I’m craving something different or would like some middle eastern/Mediterranean food, this is the place to go. I have had the falafel sandwich a number of times and it’s always great. Really love this place!

This is an excellent spot tucked away in a Racine strip mall. I’ve been here a number of times, and the quality of the food as well as the service has been on point each and every time. One can find not only Mediterranean cuisine here but also popular American dishes, such as cheeseburgers. I prefer my gyros spicy and this spot does it perfectly. A great addition with the gyros is the fries but be sure to get them seasoned. Also, consider a side of dipping cheese sauce with the fries. The meat quality of the gyros and the burger patties is truly high grade. Although many locals opt for take out, the interior is spotless. The décor is pleasant and welcoming. I’m always itching to visit this spot whenever I’m in Racine.

For reasons unknown, I have been yearning for a beef gyro as of late. Gyro Express was the only one in the vicinity so I decided to try it– and I’m glad that I did. This friendly family-owned business is tucked away at the end of a business strip, next to a tanning salon(which is the land mark I use to find Gyro Express, hah). The interior space is small– typical of a Mom and Pop shop– however, the design and décor is pretty nice, with dark wooden tables, a Mediterranean warm color scheme, a faux fireplace, and tasteful art pieces on the wall. There’s also patio seating space for warmer months. Having been here twice now, I can comment on the chicken shawarma and spicy gyro original. Of the two, the spicy gyro original was the best. The beef was well– marinated, tasty, and piled high on the pita bread. I ate a lot of the meat by hand, dipping it in the tatziki sauce that came on the side until I was able to wrap the pita and bite into it with out appearing like Jaws going in for the kill. The fries that came with the gyros were typical, hot, and fresh. The chicken shawarma was meh, esp for the price. Then again, it’s probably unfair of me to compare it to the shawarmas I used to eat on the daily in Dearborn, MI. My friend had the cheesy gyro original. He enjoyed his gyro, noting that the spicy beef of my gyro did in fact taste spicier than his simple cheesy original gyro(but he also has a simple palate, so…). The menu has many more items typical of middle eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, such as grape leaves, falafel sandwiches, baba ghanouj, and most things can be made into a platter. Overall, Gyro Express upholds the promise of its name, and at an affordable price, too.
This little Mediterranean shop is a nice change from the chain restaurants in the area. I’ve stopped here several times during my visits to Racine. The owner is super friendly, the restaurant it tastefully decorated, and the food is tasty. The gyro portion in huge! The basic gyro is a reasonable $ 7.

In the last decade, grudgingly, Racine has finally gotten some variety in its international cuisine. We lost the one shot at Indian food that we had, but we’ve gained a Korean, 2 Thai & an Afro-Caribbean, so I’ve been super-pleased. But we’ve been missing the middle-eastern flavors that we get in other cities. Who knew that a gyro place(I don’t really eat gyros) would have kickass middle-eastern!!! I guess it was here for some time before we heard. Oh, well, now we know… And can’t stop going back!!! It’s soooo good! The shawarma: great, the hummus: great, the tabuleh salad: solid!!! But it’s the felafel sandwich that I can’t stop eating. I go almost weekly. The family that owns it are class-act, kickass rock stars, and have become pals. I sit inside, and watch crappy daytime tv, and eat the pillowy flatbread sandwich, slammed with crunchy zesty felafel, tomato, onion, a slather of soft hummus spread — and ordered just a little spicy!!! So damn good! On the best days, they have Capri Suns or green grenades to drink!!! You never know!!! I hear the gyros are good, too.

Not bad Mediterranean food. Their Baba Ghanoush is a bit spicy which I am not use too. Their falafels are really good!

Great Mediterranean find… A quick and simple, but tasty meal. The portions are generous and the cost is low, but the best part is that you can tell the owner is happy you are there and treats everyone excellent. Good quality with fresh ingredients. Thank you Unilocal

Ate here with my in-laws and wife last sunday, and enjoyed the meal. We had good variety as we ordered: Gyros(Gyro was pretty good, and enjoyed the raw red onions to cut the salt in it). Italian Roast Beef w/spicy fries(Fries were surprisingly good) Falafel platter(they offered to let us try baba ganoush alongside the hummus and falafal, which was really good. The falafel was slightly too salty, but hasn’t been in the past, so maybe just this one time). I forgot what my wife had, but the rice that it came with was very good. It was very flavorful and enjoyable. As a visitor from NYC, I’d say the Gyros are pretty much similar to the experience you’d get in NYC, which is pretty decent. There is good variety, and the servers were very friendly. Prices are good and portion sizes were decent as well compared to the other placed we ate at during the week. It was a very well run family restaurant and we will be back when visiting the area again.

I’m going to agree with most of the reviewers so far. This is one of those places Unilocal was made for. It’s nice, but not impressive. Clean, well kept, but it doesn’t really stick out. The gyros plate was a reasonable size, not huge, but acceptable for a lunch. The hummus plate was very good. Found a new combination I wouldn’t have otherwise thought of, hummus with spicy fries, actually pretty good. The owner came out a couple times just to check on us, nothing big, just came out to see if we were doing OK. It’s a gyros restaurant tucked in so that it’s not easy to find. For the area, it’s very nice, and it’s not busy. It’s a definite try it and see if you like it restaurant.

Attention vegetarians! The sampler is a revelation. The hummus is the best around. The gift of a variety of ethnic foods, and American savories, makes it uniquely tempting. If you are seeking a change-up for your palette, visit soon. The gyros are the best on the southside, with real spit-cut meat. Something not found in treehouse forts ;)

This place is amazing. I can’t stop coming back! My favorite is the falafel and the hummus plate — spicy! You really cant go wrong– gyro, greek saled, fries. It is the owner and workers here that make this place EXTRA awesome!!! Tyler knows my order by now! Haha and the owners12 yr old son is often at the register. Great family, great service, great food! :) Highly recommend!

I would probably rate this as more of a 2.5, but not quite a 3. After reading the reviews for this place, I have to say that I was disappointed. I ordered 3 gyro plates, 2 with fries and one with rice. The rice was sitting in either a rice cooker or a slow cooker on the counter. Needless to say, it was clumped together and not at all flavorful. The gyros were okay, but nothing special. The tzatziki sauce was homemade but was also pretty bland. Unfortunately, I will not be back.

The environment is ok, nothing special. The food and the service however are excellent! I especially like that the owners son(maybe 10 years old?) runs the cash regester on the two Saturdays that I have been here. I am a big fan of family run small business and this one is no exception. I recommend the spicy gyro meal with spicy fries.

The combo platter is great. It’s a sampling of a flavorful parsley based salad, spicy hummus and a falafel on the first plate and tasty kabob over rice on the second plate. The owner is very friendly and is happy to explain the dishes.
