If I could give negative starts I would! The staff is RUDE and act as if they are above you and too good to even be talking to you. They refused to give me my anxiety meds that were prescribed by my normal doc. Got that fixed and then was asked by the doc that was assigned to me what I would do if I was denied them and taken off of them. My response was«probably have an anxiety attack considering they help me with my anxiety»(anxiety was the reason I admitted myself) and somehow that classified me as addicted. Also a refusal of prescribed meds was a very common thing in that place with numerous different people for both mental health and CD people. Then, I was there for a total of 4 days before I was able to «escape»(and I use that word because it best describes how I felt when I was discharged) and I received the books that are suppose to be given to you at admittance literally 3 hours before I signed my discharge papers. In those 4 days I was forced to go to AA meetings, CD(Chemical-Dependency) Meetings, and«study» the books they never gave me; so I studied People magazine which the staff had no care in the world that I was sitting around with all the other mental health patients reading magazines being bored. Yes, we brought it to their attention and asked for books or packets or something in which case they said to go to the book shelf(that has 5 books on it and all are AA books) and read an AA book. Ok, no thank you, think I’ll catch up on my weekly celebrity drama that I don’t have time to do out in the real world… That I left and dropped everything for in order to get myself help. Lol Really!!! I was just in utter shock! After complaining to the floor supervisor about having nothing to do the therapist laid about 15 packets out on the table and told us to pick the ones that pertained to us and our situation. I’m sorry, but I’m not a doctor, I don’t know what exactly I need right now… Hence the reason I’m here! But at least at this point we had SOMETHING somewhat productive to study during the study times(study time takes up a good 60% of the day for mental health patients with no psychiatrist or nurse or anyone to help guide you). At that point I was blessed enough to to have a wonderful husband pulling for me and he was in contact with my normal doc and had them call the director of the hospital to explain that there was no mental health groups or even therapy. In which case they fit in a 30 min group with about 20 people in it explaining the packets she had laid out previously. Another topic id like to mention is that they lock you out of your room EVERY day from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm. If you have left something in your room and ask to just quickly grab it(such as a tampon), you take a big risk of getting denied, but if they do decide to let you in they not only give you dirty looks but lecture you. Also if you fail to make it to the meetings on time or at all, you get your smoke break and phone calls denied. A very important part of this review is the fact that HIPPA laws were broken left and right. 3 times in one day to be exact. Don’t expect confidentiality with your medical history or medicines. They will be discussed openly in the hallway, between 2 nurses out on the smoke patio while everyone is within 10 feet of them, and discussed at the desk with people lined up right next to it waiting to get their meds. In closing I’d like to share my story of my discharge. My husband drove 7 hours one way to come get me and was there fairly late(about 10:30pm) which they said would be fine as long as it was before midnight. I started signing discharge papers around 3 pm, yet they waited until 11 pm to let me pack my belongings. They gave me most everything and were ready to send me on my way when it occurred to me that the anxiety meds that I had arrived with were not in my bag. They said they checked them into the vault. I politely asked for them back before I left and was told I could call in a week to see if I could get«approved» to get them back and then if so, they would mail them in 2 – 3 weeks. I was completely appalled that they would discharge a patient who was admitted for anxiety without the anxiety medication she was prescribed by her doctor and arrived with. At that point I said I’d like a prescription for the medication. They said that was absolutely out of the question because all the docs had left earlier. I asked if there was a doc on call and the supervisor told me no. I asked what they did if something happened to one of the patients in the middle of the night and she replied that they would call a doctor in. I said«is that not considered on call?» And her response was«I guess so». This was the night supervisor saying this… I told them I refused to leave without either a prescription or the meds I arrived with and she said«fine then unpack your bags and stay until tomorrow». I ended up leaving without them. Unreal! Unbelievable! And unacceptable!
