This business operates in a sneaky way. They sell a groupon under two different names. I had already once been to the salon under their other name: Primp, and I thought I was visiting a completely different salon. At any rate, I had a good experience at Primp, so I went ahead and used my groupon for Alan Scott Mae, once I realized it is the same establishment. They upcharged me $ 60 for«long hair». I understand that there is a disclaimer, but it is not specific. My hair is only a little bit past my shoulders. It was even longer last time I was here, and there was not an upcharge, so that blurs the definition of «long» even more. I am not really sure what the parameters are to determine«long». That part is neither clear, nor consistent, and it is not defined on the groupon. That said, my stylist was great: skilled, friendly, and personable. Renee, the manager is not extremely friendly, nor helpful. I get it– she has a business to run, but I am not interested in continuing to do business here. I am a generous tipper, and I would really enjoy returning to the particular hair dresser who did my hair, but I can’t support a business that doesn’t communicate the policies more clearly.

I purchased a groupon for a Pravana smoothing treatment here. The stylist was very nice, but when he was straightening my hair with the product on, he set his straightener at too high a temperature. The directions say to set the straightener to 360 degrees, but the straightener the guy used didn’t have that setting, so he toggled between 350 and 400, and burned my roots, turning them a crispy bright orange. The salon was great about correcting the color and fixing the mistake of their newbie stylist, so my hair looked acceptable after the treatment. What I didn’t plan on though, was that my hair broke off at the root over the next few days. I had long hair that was 6 inches past my shoulders. My hair continued to break off and look awful for the next six months to a year, as I was forced to cut the rest of my hair very short to blend in with the broken roots on top. More than a year later, my hair is just now returning to normal and growing in fully. I decided to write this review because it looks like they are offering an even cheaper Groupon this spring – $ 69 for a keratin treatment. I just wanted to warn others out there that the people here don’t seem to know what they’re doing, the ventilation is horrible, and the damage incurred can result in years of damage! You get what you pay for!

I’m not really sure why Unilocal has filtered the good reviews. I do not work for this salon and I am not being paid to write this, so Unilocal, please do not filter my review. I’m a legit customer and I was pleased with the salon. My hair feels awesome and I am sad that I am moving away and will not be able to return often.

I was really hesitant about using my Groupon here after seeing a few really scathing reviews. However, I spent my money already, so I went ahead and made an appointment. I had a hard time finding the place, as it is actually in an apartment building near Crabtree. However I called got directions, and they were very understanding about my being ten minutes late due to lost-ness. When I got there, everyone was very nice, professional, and timely. I got a haircut and partial highlights. My stylist Andrayah(I think thats how she spelled it) was courteous, engaging, and timely. I got out of there in two in a half hours and she did a very nice job. I had used box color and my hair was on the upper end of brassy(verging on orange) and she fixed it without problem. I will definitely be coming back here, with or without a groupon(although I prefer with ;) Try this place out, they are flexible, professional, and timely!

I went here to get the Keratin Treatment and wasn’t planning on getting a haircut but went ahead and let her(Anddrayah) trim it anyway. PROS: I have to say that she did a really good job doing the Keratin Treatment. CONS: Now the hair cut. After I was able to wash my hair I found out that it was a hot mess. I had a huge chunk of hair that had been cut that wasn’t suppose to be cut. My hair was supposed to be trimmed but now I have short layers and a chunk of hair missing. Greg was kind enough to have me come back in to see if he could fix her mistake and he did the best with what he had to work with but I’m just going to have to let it grow out. I have to wear a hair pin everyday now. I also want to mention that my hair doesn’t grow fast. It’ll take at least 9 months for the missing hair to grow out.

Went there because I had a coupon for hair services. Bought two keratin services for my sister and I. The treatment did not turn out as planned, we have had this done before at other salons and knew what to expect. Our hair is now very damaged. We emailed the salon and told them what happened and after some communication, the owner asked us what we wanted to do. We requested that the something be done to correct the problem and scheduled an appointment. When we called to confirm the appointment the receptionist was rude, she kept mispronouncing my sister’s name and was very hostile. She eventually hung up on us. We called back and spoke with the owner and he agreed with the actions of the receptionist. The next day, the day of the appointment, we got an email and a voicemail from the owner saying that he was canceling our appointment because he had other clients that he had to take care of instead. My sister lives in Charlotte, which is 150 miles away from Raleigh. She had to make special arrangements to come *just* for this appointment. Probably the most insulting part was when he accused us of stripping our hair with alcohol. Another reason why I am so upset is because they had a customer satisfaction promise when I purchased my coupon and when I felt like I wasn’t satisfied, I let them know but the owner denied that promise existed even though I had a screen shot proving it. Their website states that«Customer Service Always Comes First.» but I did not feel like I was treated in a way that reflected that. Edit: «advice» — Owners are not supposed to review/rate their own business. It can be viewed as misleading and is not a «real review.» There is a business account available if you want to reply to this review as the owner of the business. I would never confirm an appointment and then not show, that accusation is totally false. Coming into the salon is not an easy thing when you live so far away, and of course I wanted to know that my appointment was set. Also, it was never an issue about who did the service, it was done in your salon so of course I came to you when we were upset about the damage. We were told via email and voicemail that our appointment was canceled so of course we didn’t show. I am sorry if you were offended by my review but it is a reflection of my personal experience at your salon. You had ample opportunity to change my opinion before the review was posted and I made every effort to keep my review objective and in line with the essence of this website.
