Bens went out of business. Sad, because they had great fish tacos.

Awesome bar food! the best dog friendly outdoor patio, when it is warm out they have a band or singer on sunday afternoons. Here is what i have ordered– appetizers– calamari– good, crunchy, love the spicy thai chilli sauce. Seared Tuna– a little over done for my taste. SpicyTomatoe soup with bacon and blue cheese crumbles– order it almost every time, love it. salads– greek salad with chichen or seared tuna, love it, the white balsamic vinagrette is very original and tasty. Lunch– Fish tacos– grilled, order that with house made spicy chips, awesome! Steak wrap– love it! chicken bacon wrap– great! Also had the nachos– they were very good as well. This is A GREATLUNCHPLACE! and by the way that picture is gross and does not represent the clamari at all.

Ben’s Place is a solid choice for pub food in the area. They also have a good number of HDTVs to catch the game on. We went here on a Friday night and ordered some jumbo BBQ chicken wings as an appetizer soon after we sat down. They were good, but unfortunately they didn’t make it out to us until 5 minutes after our entrée… I’m not sure what happened, but the waitress did apologize. I’ve ordered the fish & chips twice here. The dish is served with a bottle of malt vinegar(which I guess is a Scottish thing). It was on par with fish and chips that I’ve had in many other places, including on the NC and MA coasts. The menu is kind of strange… it’s mostly pub food, but there’s also a handful of main dishes, wraps, and tex-mex. I feel like some of the dishes are out-of-place like the herb crusted salmon, pork loin, and carbonara… I would never order an Italian dish at a pub. I’d go to one of the many fine Italian restaurants in Raleigh for that. My advice to Ben’s Place: ditch the mains(except for the steak and pork) and add more burger and BBQ options. Ben’s Place has what they call«mini desserts», which are sized individually and priced at $ 3.25. Genius idea. It’s not my first choice for pub food near home(that would be Blinco’s), but I’ll go here every once in a while.

I have eaten at Ben’s Place a number of times. The first time that I ate there; I loved the food. The waiter was very friendly, served us very well and he received great tips and verbal praise from us. I went there some time later because I was so happy with the food and service that I had received before and took my family. The waitress brought some glasses to the table that were dirty(one having lipstick from someone else on it) with our expensive wine in them. We asked her to bring a new glasses with new wine we saw her take the wine from the dirty glass and pour it into a different glass and then brought it back to our table. We were not satisfied, stated it to the staff and they did not seem to care too much and never apologized. We did not stay to eat that night. 09-11-2009: After months of avoiding this restaurant, I gave Ben’s Place another chance and gave them my business and ordered take out. Since their food is not the cheapest, I figured that it should be good and have good presentation. I ordered some calamari as an appetizer, which they charge $ 8.00 for. When I got home and opened the box, there were hardly any calamari in the box and the ones that were there looked like they came off of someone’s plate. They were cold, chewy and they slapped an old piece of lettuce that was the majority of the box contents(More lettuce than food that I was charged $ 8.00 for). I was not happy — at all. The two sandwiches were good, but I hardly had any fries in the take out box. My bill came to almost 30.00 and all of the food; other than the sandwiches were not satisfactory. Needless to say, I will no longer be eating at Ben’s Place. Like so many others, it was a great restaurant that has declined in service and product and has taken too many shortcuts while not giving the customer what they pay for. I do not recommend this restaurant. Better to buy your own food and cook at home or eat elsewhere.

Ben’s Place offered a quick and easy meal, and there’s a full bar with decent drink specials. We had sandwiches and beer, and the service was quick and attentive.
