Boylan Heights Studio

I tried calling the salon and no one answered my call. I live down the street so I drove by to see if they do walk ins. There were two stylists in there just sitting in chairs without any customers and they told me they didn’t have time. They could have had customers with appointments on the way but they did not ask me to make an appointment or to come back they just stared at me until I left.

Alexa is awesome. She is the only one to cut my hair for almost ten years. I pray she never moves :)

I have called 6 times and left 2 messages to try and schedule an appointment and 2 weeks later, still nothing! I have heard the place is great but, it doesn’t seem like they want new customers! :(

Claire has been cutting and coloring my hair for 4 – 5 years now. First of all, I just like her, and she’s definitely become a friend over the time she’s been cutting my hair. She’s been around Raleigh a long time, so she knows what’s going on and is just a cool person. As a hairdresser, she knows what to do with my hair. I have wavy/​curly fine yet very thick hair. It’s a dark ash blonde naturally, and in the past year, I’m starting to get more grey. She is great with curls. In fact, I probably have 10 – 15 friends with curly hair who also go to Claire because of her reputation for knowing what to do with curly hair. I have her cut it so I don’t have to do much to it afterwards. Claire also knows how to color my hair. She’s very flexible about what I need. If I tell her I’m broke, so it needs to last a while, she does more fine subtle highlights. If I’m able to come in more regularly, she can really make it pop (if that’s what I want). I’ve learned that she is more conservative with how she cuts. So she’ll never go in and assume you want any more cut than you’ve said. In fact, I’ve had to say, «Go ahead! Be more drastic!» Honestly, this is such a better a problem than the opposite, and I really appreciate that. Too much cut when that’s not what you want can be a scary thing. That will never happen with Claire. The studio is on a quiet little bend in a street in Boylan Heights. It’s a very relaxing place to sit and chat while you have your hair done. I imagine I’ll be going to see Claire at Boylan Heights as long as it’s possible. BTW, I know some non-​curly folks who go to Claire, too. She can do that, but curls are her specialty.

Claire is the curly hair expert! I’ve been going to her for 7+ years and I’m always happy with her work!

Claire’s been cutting my hair for more years than I can remember, and as my needs have changed, she’s always given me exactly what I’m looking for. I’ve had other stylists who felt like they knew what was best for me and tried to impose their ideas on me. That’s not Claire. She’s there to give me the best version of the look I want. And a haircut with her is always a fun time.

Claire’s been the only stylist for me since I started seeing her about 6 years ago. I have wild curly hair, and she makes me look great and feel great every time I walk out of the salon. After a lifetime of bad haircuts from the supercuts, my husband started going to Claire last year, and hasn’t looked back. His hair has never looked so good!

I have been seeing Claire for my haircuts for almost 10 years, and she’s awesome. She’s always up for trying something new and we collaborate on the look so when I walk out of the studio I’m always happy. I also trust her judgement. She’s steered me away from some looks because it wouldn’t look quite right on me. I can’t recommend her enough!

I grew up in Raleigh but lived for years in NYC. Boylan Heights Studio reminds me of these cool Brooklyn salons: raw space, good music, great stylists with some welcome edge… and not a «Raleigh bob» in sight. Hallelujah! I have always scheduled with Claire– she has taken me all over the cut and color spectrum and now keepsmy long layers like I like them, with lots of ombré highlights (which I am loving so much). I’ll post a pic to Unilocal.
Side note– My stylist (aforementioned Claire Ashby) is a jeweler/​metalsmith and I’ve recently fallen hard for her stuff. Rocks, copper, sterling, enamel… love it.

Alexa Dorsey is AMAZINGLY talented. She has given me exceptional haircuts for seven years. I love the way I feel walking out of the salon every time!
