Dechen Paldon is a treasure and her store on Blake St a few steps from Moore Square Park is a treasure trove of things that are beautiful and useful. Dechen’s Collections has singing bowls, incense, books and CDs, art objects. Many Tibetan and Nepalese items. I have added a Quan Yin and a Buddha to my collection and she also had the cushons to rest my singing bowls on. I love to browse there.

My favorite store in raleigh! Beautiful authentic items from Nepal and great prices. Even if you are not looking for tibetan or Buddhist items, this store provides beautiful jewelry, scarfs, clothes, handbags, incense, sage, stones, rugs, home décor and decorations for anyone. The owner is also amazingly kind generous woman who will assist you or answer any questions. GREATPLACE!!!

I’ve been frequenting Dechen Collections for many years, always with warm, exceptional service & lovely atmosphere. This is among my favorite«go to» places for special gifts for Buddhist & non-Buddhist friends alike. I never fail to find something unique & beautiful at a great price while having a nice friendly visit. While I enjoy shopping locally, I especially like supporting this small business; Ms. Dechen & her husband are both remarkably kind souls who never fail to lift spirits, whether or not a purchase is made. My children love to go there too; my young son always asks a thousand questions which Ms. Dechen answers patiently & plays the singing bowls for them. In over a decade, neither I nor my family & friends have ever experienced anything less than love & light from the Dechen family. =)

Dechen Collections has a unique selection of jewelry(lots of turquoise, a personal favorite), gifts, handmade rugs, singing bowls, colorful skirts, bags, and incense. My boyfriend surprised me with a set of wooden elephants that I fell in love with at Dechen for my birthday. Dechen also has an amazing story. She was born on the way to Nepal from Tibet while her parents escaped from Communist China’s occupation of Tibet. She lived in Nepal before migrating to the US in 1998, and opened Dechen Collections that same year.

I was lucky to spend an entire month in Nepal back in 2007 and this store is the only place that has the ability to shoot me back there without paying for the flight. I go here often because it is the only place I can buy my favorite incense(Chandan) which was burned all over the streets of Kathmandu. This little shop perfectly houses a little bit of everything that we encountered on the streets in Nepal that were for sale. From the singing bowls, the carved pieces, jewelry, masks etc, this is what you will bring back from that region while traveling. One of my most favorite purchases from Dechen was a CD I found there that was the exact CD that played at my guesthouse in Kathmandu every morning while we ate breakfast in the courtyard(Inner Peace by Ani Choying Drolma.) It’s a great little store with authentic pieces and a warm spirit. Stop in and take yourself on a mini journey.

What an amazing store. There really aren’t enough adjectives to describe what it’s like to walk inside. Meandering around City Market one day, I immediately was drawn to a beautiful Tibetan jacket I saw through the window. Once I entered the store though, I was distracted by the amazing collection of all other things Tibetan. But nothing caught my eye more than the singing bowls. This was the first time I had seen them up close. The gentleman working that day was very kind and informative(definitely in a no-pressure approach) in explaining how the bowls came in 7 different sizes, one for each chakra, and why the bowls had two different shapes. The size and shape is dependent on the effect the user is trying to achieve. As he demonstrated how they worked, I was a little disappointed when there was very little sound, but the longer he moved the mallet around the rim, the louder and more intense the sound became. It was really easy to see how the sound wave could resonate on a different portion of your own brain waves. I ended up purchasing a cd of the bowls music to see if I could capture that same sensation at home. It would be perfect for meditation. There was something very relaxing about Dechen’s, and the low-key environment really makes this a must-go place.

Can’t squeeze in a trip to Tibet this year? I hear ya. Fortunately for us, tucked away in cute as hell City Market is Dechen Collections, with an impressive selection of all things Tibetan and Dalai Lama. I don’t know if it is the dense fog of Nag Champa that does it, or something more spiritual, but coming here has the same effect on my stress level as 90 minutes of yoga. In the center of the store there is a table filled with«singing bowls» which are rumored to have significant healing properties. Western medicine is way too entrenched in my psyche for me to buy wholeheartedly into that, but they are beautifully crafted and emit an incredibly soothing sound.
