Guy Fawkes Night in downtown Raleigh was so much fun! Sponsored by the Oxford, this night of fire, fun, food, and beer is just what Raleigh needs on random Saturday nights. Though this wasn’t a random Saturday, it was commemorating the night King James I survived the night that Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the House of Lords… and everyone in London lit bonfires and introduced the 5th of November Observation Act to enforce a public thanksgiving of the Guy Fawkes’ plot failure. Okay, so what’s this all about? Raleigh comes alive and these wonderful pyros bring a lot of fire to the middle of Fayetteville Street. There were several local brews being served up in addition to hot beverages, because this was a chilly(and extremely windy!) night downtown. Eschelon had a great VIP tent with 2 local beers, wine, yummy finger foods & chili. A few vendors were selling local stuff, and G105 had a stage to blast tunes at the event. Too bad more people didn’t show up– I attribute that to the weather & lack of publicity… but this event was super fun & I hope to see more things like this pop up around downtown Raleigh!
