Tried NC States famous ice cream for the first time at the state fair this year. I’ve been hearing about this place ever since I moved, and each year at the fair the line is so long that I haven’t wanted to wait. I finally decided this year that I had to try it, and it was definitely worth the wait. Now I understand why the line is so long every year. The ice cream is so fluffy and creamy. It was amazing! It was 5 dollars for one size, but the price was worth it and they were generous with the portion. There was so much ice cream filled in the cup. I love ice cream and I couldn’t even finish the whole cup, so that says a lot. At the fair, you weren’t allowed to sample any flavors to keep the line moving. I’ll definitely need to venture to NC State’s campus to try more flavors. I went with the mint chocolate chip. The mint flavor was strong, and there was plenty of chocolate chips to add the perfect chocolatey crunch. I won’t be waiting until the fair again next year to try this ice cream again!

I love this ice cream. It’s really fresh and the flavors are each distinctly delicious. I recently tried the campfire flavor which tasted like a s’more and it was delicious. The prices are reasonable too in comparison to other ice cream shops in the area. I’m not even a student but I will go on campus for this!

NC State students should take full advantage of the ice cream perfection from Howling Cow. They have convenient locations on campus in the new Tally student union, as well as in the DH Hill library and the library on Centennial Campus. Howling Cow has some of the freshest, creamiest and most delicious ice cream I’ve ever had. It ALMOST makes me wish I went to NC State(but only for a split second). The prices are decent for the portions. $ 5 for a DOUBLE scoop in a waffle cone! I’ve tried a few of their flavors but the Campfire Delight is my favorite by far and it is a must order every time I go. The ice cream is graham cracker flavored with some marshmallow and chocolate mixed in. And eating it out of one of their freshly made waffle cones is the icing on the cake(and no, I don’t have my desserts confused). The raspberry and wolf tracks are also really good. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of their flavors, because it is all so fresh. Don’t just scream for any ice cream. Scream(or howl) for some Howling Cow! TIP– Go ahead and just splurge for the extra scoop! You are going to wish you had once you’ve finished!

I’m gonna admit it. No, I do not go to State. But do I make it a point to go to the Howling Cow every time I visit? You’d better believe I do. They have a pretty good selection of ice cream flavors, including old classics and new spins on different flavors. Two of my favorites are the Campfire Delight and the Java Bean. The Campfire Delight is meant to mimic a campfire s’more, and OH does it. You can taste everything right down to the graham cracker crust. Although, in my opinion, it’s slightly reminiscent of gingerbread. The Java Bean is amazing. The name says it all. Java Bean. Java. Bean. In my opinion, it has a pretty nutty taste in addition to the subtle coffee undertones. 10⁄10 would order again. Overall, their ice cream is pretty great. Being locally sourced is definitely a plus too.

Ice cream locally made and sold by NC State’s Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Science’s Dairy Processing Lab — that’s Howling Cow. It was hard to type that sentence. The words«lab» and«bioprocessing» should never be in the same sentence with ice cream. Ever. As in never ever. While Howling Cow isn’t organic, it’s local; and sold only by the campus. That should count for something. It’s hard to not like ice cream in general and Howling Cow is no exception. It’s available in cups, a 24-pack; pints, an eight-pack; and three gallon tubs, and can be ordered directly from the website and picked up at Schaub hall. The flavor choices increase based on the size ordered. It’s good for a party or midnight snacking if there’s a large freezer available. If any of those size options are still too much, for smaller quantities, Howling Cow is available in pints at several places on campus and by the scoop in a cone or a cup at the two libraries and the student center. The scoops are generously sized and come in a variety of flavors. These locations also offer sundaes and shakes made with any of the flavors. On my most recent visit, I tried the pecan something-or-another. It was good, but the pecans are chopped up so as to be virtually unrecognizable as a nut. It ends up being more of a visual than a taste experience overall, at least for the pecan part of it. Despite that, it blended well, was not too sweet and hit the spot as a mid afternoon refresher. I think I’ll go back to the Chocolate Chip Mint, though. Howling Cow sells milk in pints or five-gallon bags as well. It’s a nice way to support the campus and support the Wolfpack community at the same time. Just don’t tell me to go to a lab to get it.
