Horrible customer service. Very dishonest staff and owner. Never will I go there again or recommend any one to spend money in that store!

Hughie & Louie’s is a great costume shop. If you can’t find the costume you are looking for, I’d be surprised. We were amazed at the amount of costumes they had on the racks. Plus, they had an incredible assortment of masks and mascot style costumes. With this being a year-round store, it really is a great option for theatrical costumes and vintage style apparel, without having to wait for the Halloween season to roll around in order to find it. When you first park and walk up to Hughie’s & Louie’s, it really is unassuming. Until we went inside, we had no idea how big it was, and how well stocked they were. It’s a really decent-sized costume rental shop. I’m not sure about the«magic shop» aspect of it though. We didn’t see any magic gag trick props available, although to the store’s credit, we didn’t ask, so if they had any items for magic tricks and illusions, we just didn’t see them during our own perusal of the aisles. We did however find a great many outfits that sparked our imagination for future costume ideas for Halloween, Mardi Gras, etc. So, with that being said, we are definitely fans of what Hugie & Louie’s has to offer, and will definitely be back. If you are looking for mainstream props and crafts though… party gags, etc., I’d say you might want to try Party City, but for great costume rentals, with a great assortment of options, this is definitely the place to go, especially if you are looking for mascot style suits and period garb. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the feel of the shop is like the typical yearly Halloween shops that spring up each year around the fall season, but with the great option of having this available year-round. Kudos to Hughie & Louie’s. We will definitely be back.

This is a costume shop for ADULTS and most of the costumes are for RENT. Those are the two things I wish I knew before taking two young girls here on a search for princess dresses to build their dress-up wardrobe. But, if you’re looking to be the Easter Bunny at the local mall this spring, or need a quality outfit for cosplay, this is definitely the place for you.

My only regret is I did not come here sooner! A REAL costume store selling what appears to be REAL costumes. All year long. They had such a selection of not only costumes but wigs and other accessories. The staff was very nice and very helpful. I’ll most definitely will be back!

Great selection, knowledgeable staff, friendly service, I want to just wander the aisles, just to pick out themes for parties I would like to throw. It gives me good ideas and is a really fun venue. There are some really extraordinary and creative selections here.(Although, some of the rental costumes are starting to look aged.) I was looking for«Mad Scientist» and the staff member immediately was able to lead me to an appropriate(and reasonably priced!) garb. I’ll be returning here again.

Who doesn’t love a local costume shop! This place is luckily right around the corner from me now and I’m so glad it is. Let’s be honest I dress up quite a bit these days. During the winter months they change up the hours a bit and don’t have as much inventory as they do for Halloween which is to be expected. The staff members are eager to help and so friendly. I walk in and say one or two words usually they say«hun what are you looking for today?» and I respond with«burlesque, mad science, roaring 20s» what ever it might be that I’m looking for they either have it or can order it for me. It’s so nice to have one shop where you can get it all without having to run all over town. This store has been here for as along as I can remember right next door to Casa Carbone and behind O’mally’s on Glenwood Ave. If you have a reason to dress up then you have a reason to shop Hughie & Louie’s. Whether you are looking to purchase a costume, or rent a costume you will find what you need here. They have all kinds of accessories for costumes as well so if you’re just looking for that missing piece you will most likely find it here. Sometimes I like to just browse through the store to brainstorm some new ideas for a themed party. It’s a great little shop that will welcome you with open arms.

Great shop and a great place to buy your costume for the 2012 Raleigh Halloween Masquerading Angels Masquerade Ball for charity on October 20th at the Capital City Club!

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned masquerade ball? Renaissance royalty loved it, Alice of Wonderland loved it, even Lady Gaga was rumored to favor a costume or two. So what happen when you followed the white rabbit to a tea party, but your clothes looked in shamble and need a new outfit? YOUCOMETOHUGHIE&LOUIE’S! I love H&L’s. Every time I stepped into here, it reminded me of my younger days when I used to love crawling into my parents’ closet and trying on adult clothes and shoes and accessories. Here at H&L’s, it’s like year-round Holloween, Mardi Gras, Carnival, 365 days a year(well, it’s really more like 260 days since they close Sundays and Mondays out of a week) Say you are going to a Sci-fi convention and need a space monster outfit or Captain Kirk uniform, H&L’s has it. Say you are attending Roaring 20’s Speakeasy party(which I happened to need an outfit for last December,) H&L’s got flapper and pinstripe suits. So far, thanks to H&L’s, I have been an awesome Mr. Sulu, very gangster-like in my pinstripe suit, and have been photographed with a rather regal outfit from«The Tudors.» See you next October H&L’s!

Oh hey, look at Santa Claus out there on Glenwood Avenue! Not an odd sighting until you realize it’s mid-October so the light-bulb clicks on and I realize it must be Hughie & Louie’s costume store. With Halloween right around the corner, I gotta check this place out! Inside Hughie and Louie’s, it’s a crowded space filled with clothes, props, masks and costumes. Want to be a cowboy, genie or maybe even a matador? You’re in the right place! While Hughie & Louie’s doesn’t have the same assortment of adult pre-packaged costumes as other places, it does have high-quality rental costumes in back for the reasonable price of $ 75 for three days. Even if you don’t come out with something at Hughie & Louie’s, you’ll definitely have some fresh ideas about your costume. Prices are also reasonable for all the gear and props you need to fill out your costume. Service is friendly and helpful, if you’ve got any questions don’t be shy. And Hughie & Louie’s is open all year round so it’s not just for Halloween! Wish I had found this place earlier but stop on by if you want to up your game for Halloween costumery…

What a fun costume shop! Not sure how this became listed as closed, but it’s very open. Hughie & Louie’s definitely went beyond my expectations. I stopped by the other day searching for ideas for an upcoming holiday costume party. This place was perfect. Hughie & Louie’s has a costume for everything from traditional to not-so-traditional.(I still don’t get the appeal of Elvis costumes, the whole glittery jumpsuit thing is just too weird.) The owner was extremely helpful in showing me how I could make one of my ideas work by mixing some pieces with what I already have. If you prefer to buy the standard, more cheaply made costumes, there are options available near the front. The back of the store is solid fabric, full-blown theatrical-style costumes. There was a good mix of masks for everything: presidents, celebrities, villains, as well as the requisite bunny heads that were cute and scary at the same time. And fake hair, lots of it. Unfortunately, the health codes don’t allow you to try the hair on. Hughie and Louie’s has accessories to go along with the imagery: swords, gloves, chains, wands, and the like. I came away with some really good ideas, and will definitely be back here again as the party date gets closer. If you stop by, you’ll find a good selection and enthusiastic help from the nicest owners; but choose wisely, there are no returns. They make that pretty clear in amusing signs by the cash register.
