I needed a gift for a religious event for the daughter of a friend. Since I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, exactly, I stopped by In His Name, expecting a bookstore /gift shop combination. It was a lot more than that. Surprisingly, amongst the expected small gifts, there were also much of the accoutrement needed for special events in the faith journey of a Catholic. IHN stocks baptismal, communion, confirmation gowns, books, music, as well as the requisite rosaries, crucifixes, crosses and bibles(some in audio form), even the Clementine Vulgate version, written right after the Reformation. There were items there I had never seen before, or hadn’t seen in years. In His Name is rich with items important to the history and teachings of the Catholic church. For some reason I had always imagined the gowns and bowls and cups used by priests were available only in some secret store needing a password to enter and known only by a select view.(Okay, so I’ve probably read too many Dan Brown books.) In any event, I was really surprised to see some of these items in the back corner and for sale. I’m not sure if they’re for sale to the general public, but they are fascinating to see, nevertheless. Because I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for, after I explained my dilemma, the woman working not only gave me some suggestions within my price range, but also showed me where I could find them. The store is packed with lots of things and it’s easy to overlook the small items, so I was grateful for her help. Overall, In His Name is an intriguing store and I’m glad I stopped by. I found things I didn’t know existed that worked well for the occasion.
