Nora and Nicky’s

I just left Nora and Nicky’s after having pretty lackluster experience. I don’t like to be hounded by sales associates, but I also certainly didn’t want to interrupt the 20-​something cashier’s phone conversation about how «Miami is not that fun… Like, no one speaks English there» either.
Either she was just not interested in working today, or she sized up my plus size body and decided that we would just be having a Julia Roberts style Pretty Woman moment and I wasn’t worth more than a standard greeting.
Well, big mistake. HUGE. Because this obese lady actually had $ 275 of Christmas money she wanted to spend on a nice handbag and that lovely Michael Kors in the case might have been calling my name. Or the pretty fuschia structured bag in the window. But you couldn’t be bothered, sooooo… I guess you can let your boss know that I’ll be keeping my eyes out for a better deal in the much friendlier shop that is Adore down the street.
You would think in an industry where there’s tons of competition (I can think of 3 high end consignment shops in a 5 mile radius), you might train your employees to pay closer attention. But what do I know? I’m just a bitter old fat lady, right? ;)

Pricey for a used clothing store, even if it is high end brands. Other shops that specialize in high-​end names have a bit more reasonable prices in my opinion.

This is a small boutique. There wasn’t a lot of inventory for my size or budget. If you are small and like high end designer this might be good for you.

As someone who shops for clothing primarily at consignment stores all across the USA, this place is ridiculously overpriced on most of their items, especially for the condition they’re in.

Wow their selection of clothes is amazing!!! I thrift shop a lot because I cannot handle paying a ton of money for clothes especially not designer prices, but this store has SOOOO much to offer! Everything from coats to scarves! Totally going there again!

Hermes Scarves ! They had three today! This is a Nicer Consignment Boutique! Very Nice looking and the Merchandise was Newer, with a few Classic Bags! In a Place like this you never know what you will find Except that it will be in Very Good Taste and Great Condition!

Let me start by saying that there is a difference between thrift prices and consignment prices. They are not the same thing, thrift prices are the prices you usually find a Goodwill and maybe the flea market. They are usually items people have discarded as they didn’t want to mess with consignment. Consignment, especially designer consignment means you are going to get beautiful, name-​brand items for less than retail but not for dirt cheap. If you want high-​end, you are going to pay for it, especially if you don’t want to troll through racks of color organized Goodwill items. Okay… now for my review:
I am not afraid of secondhand items. As a child I grew up with a mother who adored vintage and thrifting in NYC. I would play with old toys, try on high heeled shoes and wasn’t the wiser about it having had previous owners. Upon moving to Raleigh, I noticed there were actually a lot of consignment stores and I quickly looked them up on Facebook to follow them. Nora and Nicky’s is very near to our current home and I was itching to visit them, as they always post some of the nicest items. Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, DVF. It seems they have it all. My newest obsession is Tory Burch and so when I saw they had a pair of her flats in MY size. I quickly decided to take the plunge and give them a visit.
I didn’t get the associates name who was in the store this day but she was super friendly. I had my almost 2 year old with me and I was afraid I would get the old stink eye and am happy to report we did not. I told the associate what I had come in for and she quickly got the shoes and placed them where I could try them on. She then went about her business and even casually chatted with me and my child. (Who encountered a big mirror and proceeded to put her fingers all over it, but the associate never rolled her eyes or sighed in that disgruntled way we all know).
After deciding I had to have the shoes I asked about a few more pieces and was graciously shown the items and prices. And told they did gift cards… guess what I want for my next anniversary and birthday?
The store is very pretty and the items they have are all gorgeous. While I didn’t take the time to look at clothing (going through an almost 40 rut and need to lose weight crisis) I will be back. Or hopefully my husband will be back! They had a little bit of everything and you can not beat the customer service! Especially the personalized email that comes from the owner after you have shopped!
If you are in North Raleigh and looking for designer items in great condition but at lower than retail prices? This is your shop.

I’m new to Raleigh and was disappointed with the selection at the other stores I’d visited here. Nora and Nicky’s was great — lots of selection, well organized, and priced right. I got an adorable Marc Jacobs dress for 60 bucks, and Cathy was super helpful and friendly. I will be a regular:)

After reading these reviews, was so excited to randomly find myself on this side of town for a meeting. Of course I had to stop in and see if I just couldn’t live without something! Consignment stores, by their nature, are hit and miss. And this visit was a miss for me. I really love the tendency toward choice labels, and the posh atmosphere. But I felt that the collection may have skewed a little bit older and suit separate-​y (middle-​age professional) than my tastes. They do have a surprising amount of accessories though — cool selection of inexpensive jewelry and scarves, which is a definite plus!

This might be the first time I gave out 5 stars but this place deserves it. After a long and disappointing day of scrounging thrift shops and consignment stores for some great finds-​we stumbled upon Nora and nickey’s and WOW! just what we were looking for!!! My friend found two great tops, super cool funky sweaters, necklace to match and the greatest funky shoes! (It was her birthday, my spoils only included a scarf-​but I will be back!)
Cathy-​the owner-​was fabulous and so helpful and the personal email I received the day after our trip was the icing on the cake!
I will be back and looking for more great finds and so should you!

Great little shop right by the fresh market, the owner is extremely friendly and has great taste. Fair prices and great condition!

The sign that’s in the window when Cathy is out, «We only LOOK expensive!», is so true. This is a great consignment shop. My first time in I was towing my toddler in her stroller and a cup of iced coffee. Cathy, the owner, didn’t mind either. (I’d left my coffee outside on the ledge and she told me to bring it in.) She’s got a cute water pitcher and cups set up if you get thirsty and forget your java. She was very helpful, asked my sizes and pointed out all the clothes/​shoes I could fit.
The clothes, shoes, bags and accessories are basically new. AND SO CUTE. Michael Kors, Guess, Gucci, Joe’s, too many designers to name. The prices are wonderful. Walked out with a pair of sweet purple Steve Madden Girl shoes for way better than at the mall. I swear they’ve been worn maybe once, on carpet. The clothes are organized by color (and I think size), the shoes are set up nicely, out of the way, against the walls. There are try-​on rooms at the back. It’s not cramped and the motif is gorgeous, very comfy and stylish. Cathy is very friendly, tells you about her kids, asks about yours, makes you feel as though you want to come back. I’ve told my mom and sisters about the shop and can’t wait to have friends visit!
Added bonus: the emailed «thank you» I received from Cathy after my purchase. :)
