No food, but a great variety of rotating taps. They even have Ace’s pineapple cider on tap. Sunday night is open mic with extremely good local performers.

I was in the area and stopped for a quick beer. Lucky for me they had Grimm Afterimage on draft. The bartender was very attentive and pleasing on the eyes. She quickly took my order and returned promptly with the glass full of the nectar of the gods. This place has a lot to offer and I will try to return to enjoy more offerings on draft as well as from the bottle shop. This is a great bar/bottle shop.

Meh. I had heard a rumor that there is a diverse crowd here… but unless we are talking about blondes, brunettes, and redheads, I didn’t see much in the way of diversity(maybe they were referring to dog breeds since this place is dog friendly). The bartenders seemed knowledgeable about their beer selection, which was a plus, and for the type of establishment it is I’m glad they lightened the walls after moving in the old Amras space. The space itself is pretty cool, not overdone or fussy, and the Duckrabbit and Port City beers I had were delish, my lack of a fifth star comes from the fact that my bartender only spoke when spoken to. No attempt was made to get to know what could be a new regular… hell, I never even got a name. The crowd didn’t seem pretentious… I may give it another go on a different night(was here on a Friday) and see if I can catch a bartender in a better mood.

One of my favorite places in Raleigh! Great beer selection, super friendly staff, and a fun, low-key environment. They welcome dogs, and let you bring in food since they do not serve food there. Definitiely a great spot, with some great local breweries on tap(I’ve seen Wicked Weed, Trophy Brewing, and Duck Rabbit to name a few) with a good variety of light and dark beers plus some ciders for the non-beer drinkers.

I’ve only been here once but the beer selection is carefully curated by the bartender and it’s a bottle shop so you can take some home with you. The bartender was great and the place is nice and easy for a Thursday night. Good background music. Dog friendly. Giant jenga game is also available.

This was a casual, little beer bar. Bartenders are friendly and helped out with beer selection and brunch recommendations. But the best part is the large assortment of games available to play at the bar! My bf had never played Connect 4 or Jenga(how dreadful) before so we proceeded to get our game on. The concept is cool though and wish we had interesting, chill places like this in DC. Overall, fun, casual little bar with great beer.

Stumbled upon Stags Head on the walk back to the car and decided to stop in for a beer. I tried a few samples and selected a beer that I really enjoyed. This place is huge and super nice! I recommend that you stop in if you are on Glenwood Avenue for a drink, or two, maybe three. and to play a few games or just enjoy the company of your party!

Stag’s head is a beer bar for people that love beer and/or want to try really great beer. The owner is the kind of person that tries a new beer he loves and wants to let other people try it too, and as a result what they have on tap is usually really exquisite. They carry some beers that are exclusively single batch, and when it’s gone it’s gone. What that tells me is that I need to go to Stag’s Head more often so I can try them before they’re gone!

Nice atmosphere and space to move about… Most bottle shops are so tiny that they are not the best places to chill & have some drinks but I enjoyed Stag’s Head though I felt their bottle selection was lacking, they did have more on draft than most bottle shops though.

Really relaxed vibe. Great beer selection. Awesome specials such as $ 3 draft night on Tuesday and half off wine on Wednesday. They’re both a beer and wine bar and a bottle shop. Usually have about 16 beers on tap, many different selections for all types of drinkers.

Cool bottle shop. The bottle options are from the same breweries that you’d expect but the options from said breweries are not what you’d expect. It seems they go out of their way to find«the good stuff.» I appreciate that. I will return when I have more time.

I really love this place. They bartenders are so nice and attentive and I love the scene. They also have wine which is cool for a bottle shop. They need to work on their pinball machine — not working properly but I did enjoy playing Battleship with my husband!

This tasty addition to the hot foodie spots at the top of Glenwood can best be described as a thoughtful beer dive, with a comfortable urban feel to the spacious venue and a very well curated selection of top level craft brews. There is an excellent showcasing of local NC craft brews as well as rare and hard to find imports. You can enjoy a wide range of ever-changing brews on tap that range from simple, local and tasty to the rare and unique. Prices are fair for what you get, but be forewarned — if you’re a serious brew geek, you might not get out of here without opening your wallet for at least a few of the high-end releases that can be difficult to find. But oh so tasty when you do, like Evil Twin’s impressive Black Angel and Cascade Brewing’s wild elderberry sour($ 36!). The energy is good here, and the crowd seems a little older and a lot smarter than the usual downtown barfly bunch. If you’re looking for a comfortable place to relax and taste some exceptional brews, give this spot a try.

What a nice turnaround for Glenwood South! Stags Head is a beautiful physical space — high ceilings, dark wood, that industrial look one typically sees in historic Triangle establishments(and — of course, some animal décor appropriate for the named venue). Excellent draft beer list(and PLENTY of seating!) greet you upon entering. Several local taps — from Haw River Ales out in Saxapahaw to Raleigh Brewing from just down the road, you’ll find a variety of styles to satiate any beer palette. And the, you have an entire fleet of beer to choose from in the shop section. Excellent staff — knowledgeable, friendly. You can bring food in, and there are a couple of TVs for any major sport-watching parties. Add this to your Raleigh visit list!

One of my new favorites in Glenwood South! Stags Head is in the former spot of a cigar bar but you would never know. The space is beautiful(wood floors, high ceilings with wood beams and a very nice bar) and extremely clean, featuring some fun arcade games, lots of tables and a decent amount of fridges in the corner full of beer. Both I and my date mentioned that it actually reminded us of the cool spots we frequented in England and Germany! Service was quick, attentive and friendly, without the air of ‘too cool for school’ that I often get in the area. The guys at the bar let me try a few different beers on tap and then gave me some great suggestion when it came to cider I had not tried! Speaking of cider, I appreciate their selection! While most bottle shops and bars are trimming down their cider offerings, I actually had quite a few options of ciders i’ve never tried! Yum! While prices are a bit more than my usual drinking spots(Tasty) the space and atmosphere totally makes up for it! I can’t wait to come again and play some Operation while getting my drink on!

Stags Head has a welcoming environment and lots of awesome beers on tap! They also have games such as Dr. Who Pinball and Ms. PacMan. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you definitely should!

While walking around Raleigh, wasting some time, we spotted this place. We were also told to stop in here if we had time because this is where my buddy holds their beard club meetings. When you walk in, you immediately smell, cigars, rich mahogany and leather-bound books. You can tell that this is a place you can sit and lose a whole day because it is such a relaxing environment. The beer list here is solid containing both drafts and bottles. They also have a package store with a ton of bottles both common and rare. On draft they had everything from Sours to Stouts. You want it, they most likely have something to what you want. Just to list a couple of brews that I had, Gueuze Cuvee Rene(Sour), SteakCake Stout, Double Aught(Pilsner), Festina Peche(Sour). We met the owner who was there and he was a very cool guy who is really into beer and knows his stuff. I would highly recommend coming in here for a beverage. They do not serve food here so you may want to pick a spot to eat at before or after you come here.

Stags head is a new addition to the bottle shop/bar scene and new to Glenwood South. Replacing what use to be Amra’s is this wide open space with a great little patio out front. I can still smell some of that stale cigar smoke inside. As a beer girl I can’t complain they had a great selection of bottles to purchase and plenty on draft to make any beer lover happy. Of course I was stoked to see they had Double Barley on draft one of my all time favorites. The bartender was very friendly and on a Wednesday evening the place was nearly empty. Stags Head is owned by the same folks who own Bull McCabe’s in Durham. They don’t serve food but I’m sure like other bottle shops they wouldn’t mind if you bring some in. In fact a beer and cupcake pairing wouldn’t be so bad since they are right next store to The Cupcake Shoppe. They don’t currently let you buy the bottled beer and drink it while your there but they are changing that policy which will be awesome. This part of Glenwood South has a lot going on and should not be left out of the night scene. You have a wine bar, wine shop, 518, cupcakes, and now a beer bar sounds like a nice street crawl to me. For a casual night out Stags Head is a great place to hang out. I’m not up much for the clubby bar scene on Glenwood so I love having this option now.

We tried a number of the beers on tap, settled on two we liked, and had a pint on a warm Saturday afternoon. The doors were open because it wasn’t too hot out, and there was just the faint scent that told us it used to be a cigar bar. The tap selection was varied(I think 15 beers on tap). Their bottle selection was pretty good, and we heard it will continue to expand the longer they are open. It wasn’t crowded, which was nice. They don’t serve food, but you’re welcome to bring your own. My wife grabbed some cupcakes(what else goes with beer?) from the place next door. The bartenders are knowledgeable about beer. Don’t come in looking for a bud light, though, you won’t find it here. If you’re open minded, however, the bartenders will help you find something that you like. I really want to go 5 stars, but I don’t think I can with a place that doesn’t serve food. Eating goes with drinking for me, and although I purposely ate first and had a great time, there was still an extra stop on the trip required.

Walking up South Glenwood towards Hillsborough Street, I stumbled upon Stag’s Head by accident. If they’ve done much publicity or advertising I was out of the loop on this one, but the beer and bottle shop labels printed in large letters on the windows drew my attention. Upon first glance I was impressed. I never entered the facility when it was the prior cigar bar but I was blown away with the tall ceilings, exposed beams and generally inviting feel(and could that be a lingering cigar hint?). Although I still wasn’t aware of where I’d walked into I glanced around at my options: intimate tables, bar seating and the left back corner looked to be a bottle shop. I chose bar seating and it wasn’t until I opened the menu that I registered the name and confirmed it with the random assortment of antlers hanging on the wall awkwardly to the left of the bar. With two bar tenders on staff and not a large crowd in the building I was invited to taste until I found the perfect beer fit. They had a surprisingly large selection on draft listed with prices above the taps and a menu selection of bottles and wines. I’m not sure if we were lucky with the service we received sitting at the bar, but again, great bartender and I hope I’d experience the same at a table. The bottle shop part of Stag’s Head had a good beer selection both chilled and room temperature and with average prices; I will be curious to see if they expand that area with demand. Overall, it was a great experience with knowledgeable staff and I look forward to spending more time at this new spot on Glenwood!
