It all began with winning a beehive The father-daughter team of Al and Sarah Pleasants began their honey business after taking a beekeeping class at NCSU and winning a beehive. I first tasted their honey over a year ago at the Global Village. I have reduced my intake of sugar by switching to using honey to sweeten my lattes and tea. The first time I added the honey to my latte, I squeezed a little bit on the wooden stir stick to taste the honey before adding it to my blended coffee drink. Wowser! The transparent, light amber golden colored honey was amazing. It’s so much more than just sweet. It has a complex flavor profile reminding me of fine wine with many layers of flavor. It has a mixture of tastes with hints of clover, violet, dates, maple, and caramel. I went online to find out where I could purchase this honey. During the summer(April to November), their honey and other products are available at the North Hills Saturday Farmer’s Market. You can order online and have the products shipped to you or pick up at their shop. I placed an online order the other night and by the next morning, I received an email from Sarah confirming my order, that the order had been filled, and I could pick it up during the day from 9am — 5pm. She also gave me instructions to let me know that their shop is located in the Piedmont Litho building. For delicious local raw honey, check out The Pleasant Bee.
