One of my most favorite places to try authentic Mexican food. Almost going weekly because the goods is so tasty. Great beer selection as well.

Tasty food, Tehy do not speak a lot of English but they do speak Taco and that’s all I was about! Been twice now had shrimp tacos and also a stew thing. Everything is tasty, quite cheap. The interior is dated but clean. Kitchen works very quick and noone seems to mind that we speak no Spanish. Tasty go for it!

Wow… so glad I read the reviews about eating inside. Awesome awesome. I had the enchilada platter — the sauce was super and the tortillas are homemade. Don’t get me wrong… drive thru is great when tacos and burritos are wanted. The cashier was very helpful in translating the«Spanish» menu, too!!! My only suggestion– I do wish the platters came with a few more chips. No big deal– will just order them next time.

This place is probably hands down the best taco joint I’ve had in North Carolina. They serve up authentic mexican tacos on corn tortillas and the meat if flavored perfectly. Also, they have a small condiment bar so you can load up on extra lettuce, jalapeños and salsas if you’d like. The only downsides are that the place itself is a little ‘old’ and rundown and unfortunately I got there right at lunch so service was a little on the slow side. Nonetheless I plan on going back next chance I get.

I wandered over here in search of something Mexican but not fast food or faux Mexican(On the Border, Qdoba, Salsaritas, etc). This is the real deal! And it’s FAST! They cater to everyone with the usual«Americanized» Mexican food and then the actual Mexican food… Clearly indicated by their menus. There is one in Spanish and one in English(Americanized). I opted to go for the American Mexican food… you know with cheese, cuz I LOVECHEEESE!(in my Steve Urkel voice). Both the woman and man were very patient with explaining dishes and taking my order as I went back and forth. If this didn’t confirm the service and vouch for the food… a nice, big, surly man let me know how great the food is. As he walked by me with taco drippings on his shirt, I thought to myself…“Self.why not give it a try. The big, surly man said it was okay.“ The point is, the food was good. What would have set it off is some fresh salsa. I don’t believe my order qualified me to get«salads» from the bar, so the dude gave me some salsa packets. It was aight, but I love me some spicy fresh salsa. Perhaps next time I will partake in an authentic order of Mexican food.

New Bern Ave. is the worst food destination in Raleigh. Aside from a couple of stand-outs, almost everything on this strip is disgusting. This being said, Franks, Popeyes, this fish place next to the bong shop that used to be a clothing store featured in Petey Pablo’s «Raise Up» video, and The Taco Maker are definitely places I approve. The Taco Maker is really good. They have tortas, tacos, the works. I had the pastor torta and it was absolutely solid. This place is between Raleigh and Knightdale, and definitely worth the drive. Check it out. Now.

It was okay. Salsa was old. Chicken was fresh. They have a salsa bar but it seems a little old and warm. Service is very slow.

Good food. Have eaten there several times over the past year. Order at counter and call your number to pick up. Not as «fast» service as Taco Bell, but their food is MUCH better. Go inside if you can. They have two menus. One with traditional Americanized Mexican fare, and another menu in Espanol with more authentic Mexican. Large choice of fruit drinks/juices and a fixin bar with different salsas etc. Unlike Taco Bell(or Taco Hell as I call it), you actually see Hispanic people eating here which is a sign of authenticity to me. Doesn’t look like much on the outside, but give it a try. 92.5 Sanitation score on this visit. Oh, at night they have a food truck out front selling traditional Mexican tacos and have a large propane grill where you watch them grilling the steak and chicken so you know it’s «fresh off the grill» literally.

I would never have given this place a chance if not for Unilocal. It looks like a dive but the food was above average and the prices were reasonable. My husband had beef tacos and I had a chicken burrito combo. The meat was well seasoned and the chips were good. salsa wasn’t impressive. If this were more convenient I’d be a regular drive thru customer!

Hole cows. For a drive-thru mexican restaurant this is as good as it gets. This seedy-lookin spot is on my way home and I’d been meaning to stop just out of curiosity. So, late night, we run the drive-thru. We order a few burritos/tacos. It really was late, like around 10:30ish, and we waited about 15 minutes with just a car or 2 in front of us. We didn’t complain, but they insisted on giving us a free taco for the wait = awesome and completely unexpected. The food was surprisingly good. I had honestly expected Taco-Bell-type stuff. Wrong. It was actually GOOD. Like, I-want-to-go-back-tomorrow good. Like, I’m-glad-this-is-on-the-way-home good. Yeah, like that.

This is a wonderful place to grab a quick and really cheap lunch. I love the lunch combos– for about $ 5 you can get a large chicken burrito with cheese, beans, and veggies, a drink, and a side of chips. The ingredients are fresh and you can’t beat the price!

There are two menus at The Taco Maker(or El Taco Maker) — one is more of your typical fast food tex-mex choices, and one — in Spanish — that is more purely Mexican. I got the burrito california, and it was delicious. It was perfectly proportioned with rice, beans, meat and little dabs here and there of guacamole, sour cream and cilantro. There is a ‘fixings’ bar with cucumbers, pickled onions, 3 or 4 sauces, jalapenos, etc. My husband had the tacos, which were small but extremely inexpensive — he had 3 for less than $ 3. I would recommend this place over any of the other sit-down Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in the area. The food is better — you’ll just have to buy your own chips & salsa.

Awesome food, great atmosphere. As authentic as it gets for«fast food». Simply love this place, an undiscovered gem.
