Remember the old Ess Lounge out on W. Davie Street? Well it’s no more and the owners have opened up a new place around the corner in the Depot building. I stopped by Union Bar on a quiet Tuesday, the place is big with plenty of room to relax in. Is it a bar, lounge or club? I’m not really sure yet and I’m guessing it depends on the crowd. The space is open with couches on one side, DJ booth, bar, pool table and video games. The high ceilings and brick walls give it a cavernous feel. There’s also a small patio out back by the train tracks, you can tip your glass to the Amtrak trains running by. They’ve got some decent drink specials and also host private parties. So here’s hoping we get another good lounge for the area! The whole warehouse district is picking things up with the newly opened Blue Tuscan Grille, Union Bar and one other TBD club on Davie Street. Yep, this area will be rockin’ again come the summer of 2011!
