The reason why I came here was that hotel converted some of the rooms into offices, and rented them to businesses. The hotel is somewhat of a historic icon to Raleigh, and that they have an indoor roof-top pool. My school had a meeting in the hotel once to discuss career options. I heard the hotel is closing, but not sure. #281

This hotel was a gem in the 60’s, 70’s and even 80’s when I was a Senate page in highschool. The legislators loved to have lunch and dinner here and out of town Senators and Representatives often stayed here. Sadly, the facility has fallen into disrepair and the updates that have been done were on the cheap. The air freshener in the main elevator is so strong it would make one wonder if there weren’t dead bodies at the bottom of the shaft.

I last stayed here in 1995 following a banquet for a struggling non-profit. 15 years later they have not updated much. My understanding is that 30 – 40 years ago this was the grand dame of Raleigh hotels. Not it is definitely in need of a makeover. Another woman in our group was quite concerned about her safety in the dark parking lot actually put a chair under the door knob to feel safer.
