Barnett Ranch Open Space is a good place to hit when you find that all the other Preserves in the Ramona District are closed due to rain or the hour of day. To access this park you have to use a private driveway, the County can’t closed the gate to access the preserve. Even though the map on site doesn’t show it, there is a loop trail that one can hike. The horse people have used it for years as their trail of use. The loop is just over 2.5 miles(2.52, used my gps app to get the mileage). Since this property is in a valley there really isn’t any great sweeping views to talk about. Just nice views of surrounding area. It is a good running trail. Of all the years I have been here, I have never seen a horse on this trail but it does get used by the horse community. This isn’t a great place to see spring flowers. Not much of a variety. Birds are plentiful though. This preserve is best used for getting in a off street walk or hike. In 2003 it was hit by the Cedar Fire.
