This year was our first experience with a football league but we’ve played in the RC Little League Baseball league for years and have a daughter in activities. From the beginning I was not impressed with the Junior Pee Wee team(or any of the team age levels). First of all, practices did not start and end on time. The coaches showed zero respect for parent’s valuable evening time. I’m not talking ending a few minutes late every now and again, I’m talking 20 minutes late every single practice. Just change practice time if you want to play longer. On one occasion practice ended early and my then 12 year old was left at the park at dark, ALONE, with no coaches. The coach did allow him to use the cell phone before he took off though. This is how I knew to get him. Regularly, game times and locations and practice times and locations would change without very specific information as to where it was changing to. I was notified about the final team party via text message 1 hour before the party started. My son was not told because he didn’t go to the junior high most of the boys went to in town. There was no effective parent group, no effective message system, no effective information system. There is a website, but only relays game stats and not timely for that matter. A larger issue is the type of parents and kids involved with this program. Starts with a g and rhymes with metto. The F, S, C, and D words aren’t appropriate in front of kids. At any time. Whether you’re yelling it, telling a loud story or just dropping it in conversation. Being in the crowds at the games felt like I was in a prison courtyard. On the up said, the boys worked hard and the coahces physically pushed them to their limits. There were 5 day a week practices and the coaches demanded their best athletic effort. Next year, our son will play on another team that values the parents time and demonstrates better values.
