Heald College

SCHOOL CLOSED May 2015. They’re being sued by the State of CA. Left students in a lurch, by suddenly closing their doors. Students can seek loan forgiveness, but lose all their credits, or keep the credits and transfer… but keep all the debt. Some were supposed to graduate in two months. Corinthian College, it’s sister ship, is responsible; and has closed it’s doors too. So bad. Be careful of these «For Profit» schools, they can do this to you.

This college does not even deserve 1star. I went to Heald for 2 years in Medical Assisting. This college is a joke. They are signing up students getting their $$ but are not concerned if they are actually even getting jobs. When I was ready to do by extetnship it was difficult because Mercy, Sutter and Kaiser cancelled their contracts with Heald so you cannot do your externships with them. You end up going to a Dr’s office that just use you for free labor. When I graduated I could not find a job because Dr’s want you to have 2 years experience. Heald made it sound so easy to be able to get a job. All their job leads were ones I had found myself on Craigslist. Needless to say I have been graduated for several years now and still have not been able to get a job with my Heald diploma but have a huge student loan debt. You cannit transfer to another college with Heald credits as well. So you have to start over. Heald is dishonest and fraudulent in their advertisements and their sales pitches. Hooray for those that have found jobs after graduating from Heald. You lucked out. Did you really get a job because of your Heald education? I do believe that all students who did not get jobs from their Heald education should have their loans cancelled.

What a joke! Not a college! Don’t make them full you by saying your tuition cost will stay the same for life, in case u want to continue or change your carrier!!! So not true. Just another sales gimmick they use to get u in. Sucks I had to learn it on my own skin. Beware!!!

This place isn’t for everybody. My sister had success here, however I didn’t feel challenged. Maybe I just wasn’t ready. The old fashion way was best suited for me, such as community college then transfer. I gave it one star because I felt scammed.

Some pros, and some cons. I ended up giving it a 2, but that’s only because I am one of the few with a great paying job with only an Associates.
Pros: I like how all of the material, even the «General education,» is relevant to the workforce. Its all classes related to your major, and the GE were classes on how to use Microsoft programs every modern day employee should know how to use. During my tenure at Heald, the professors were approachable and entertaining (save for one, but one terrible one out of a lot of good ones is probably typical of anywhere).
Cons: Be prepared to have to pay off a huge ass loan for a simple Associates degree. While specialized, an Associate’s don’t mean jack when compared to other degrees. The biggest farce is the «career assistance.» The majority of the career assistance were links to jobs online emailed to me that I had already found and applied for.
Lastly, they are one of the only places that won’t take a credit card to get an official transcript mailed out. I find it ludicrous that I must drive out from Davis to Rancho Cordova to hand someone a five dollar bill so that they can send out my transcript when «they get around to it» (According to National University, it took them over 2 weeks to receive it).
Again, the actual curriculuim is not bad, but similarily to the Education system, all of the other beaurocracy crap ruins it.

I completed my first quarter at this campus and it was not a great experience. My academic counselor never kept her promises or respond to my emails. The only time she got back to me was after I emailed her saying I wasn’t going to be returning to Heald next quarter. I was told to check in with financial aid regarding my transfer. I sent an email to my financial aid counselor. Never got a reply. I had to personally go and speak with someone to let them know of my transfer. It seems there is no communication at this school. Everyone is too busy to help the current students. This wasn’t the case before I became a student. I called to get information about attending this school. My counselor told me I could drop by in an hour to meet with her. She was nice and spoke highly of the campus and really tried to sell me on it. After I left I had HW to do (obtain official transcripts etc) My emails were answered in a timely manner and phone calls were returned. Once I was in and my class schedule was given to me it was a struggle getting my questions answered. I had an issue with the English class I was placed in. I felt based on my placement test and previous classes I took at another school, that I shouldn’t have taken that class. I was told by my counselor «oh just take this class. It will be an easy A!» My teachers were awesome but the rest of the staff needs to work on their communication and placing students into the appropriate classes and not just to fill their quotas. After all, this is a FOR profit school.

Amazing College! They give you the tools and resources to succeed. With the chosen major, you concentrate on what you want to be. It’s up to you to have the drive to want it. They give it to you and you use it!!! They will teach you real world situations. With the help from staff and faculty it will make your time at Heald easier.

I graduated from this school in April 2010. Lets just say my education is worse than from a Community College. In fact, I felt the curriculum more on a Junior High Level. The teachers do not want you to fail, because since this is a private college. They are only paid if you stay. That also goes for the advisers and the rest of the staff.
I meet some great people here, I can’t think of anyone I went to school with that with any sight bit of effort could have gotten a 4.0 GPA here, unless you didn’t want it. The teachers practically spoon feed the test information to us, prior to the test. Without saying the answer to #1 is «B» of course. I would rate this college a 1 star but, Unilocal would probably not show this review, plus I had two good teachers one who quit after i graduated.
Looking back I wish I would have went to a community college. I pick up one of my old school bills. $ 4,705 for My January 2010 Quarter of 12 units (each class is 4 units). Ok some of you might say thats not too bad. Well if you want to transfer to a Real college (which i did) most of the credits were accepted from the general knowledge. I got the benefit of the doubt and was given 4 sm units for each of the 4 qtr unit classes. But another college I happened to transfer credits to did not. In fact They were transfers as 2.88 semester units for each of my 4 unit qtr classes. So lets just say I was screwed, and have to take a 3 unit (semester) class just to fill the void that this school on a qtr system did.
I can’t seem to use my degree for much of anything either, not only are AA’s a thing of the past, but employers recognize that Heald is a for-​profit school (you can look that up if you dont understand).
All in All I spent $ 30,000 here (for an AAS), and my degree is pretty much useless. But hey I was able to use my great 4.0 GPA and get into a good, real school. Which it when I found out that, at Heald I could would full-​time and do 20 units and still get a 4.0 GPA. But at any other school to include Community College ($ 33 a unit) I would learn more, and my mind would actually be used. What a joke.
UPDATE: I graduated from a bachelors program and my total cost for the last two years of my degree was about $ 26,000 that’s less than Heald costs. Keep in mind i only got an AAS from Heald not a AA, meaning i needed several more classes to fill my general ed requirements. Basically 19 months at Heald cost more than two years at a State University.
I feel sorry if anyone is doing a Medical Assisting degree here. Think about it, every Qtr (12 weeks) 60+ people graduate from each Heald in the area, with the EXACT same degree as you. I hope you have a real good background, and some good connections out there, cause you’ll be working at Macy’s for a few more years.
