Pep Boys

Pep Boys isn’t even worthy of one star. I have yet to have a positive experience with this location, or any others I’ve been to even out of state. This last oil change and tire rotation was the final straw. My tires aren’t balanced, my steering wheel is sloppy and floating, and I have an oil drip somewhere which could be a result of poor cleanup but is evidence of another terrible experience at pep boys.

After years of coming to this place for basic maintenance on our cars, we have decided not to give them any more chances. I will drive as far as I have to to find a shop that is realistic in its estimations of cost and time to complete a job.
There are never the same people working here and I always have a feeling like I’m being up sold on services. Hard to say no when they’ve got your car taken apart. This shop is slow, never completes a job within the time estimate, and they NEVER call you about your car, I always have to call them and follow up. I don’t even think they honor appointments. My husband has tried to schedule appointments in the past, and it hasn’t made a difference.
Today, my husband dropped off his car for an oil change and diagnostic. They estimated three hours. After three hours and not hearing back, we drove to the shop. The truck was still parked where my husband dropped it off. Another hour later and they still haven’t completed the job. I can do an oil change in 20 minutes. It should not take 4 and a half hours for an oil change and diagnostic test.
Never coming back.

I came in for an oil change late in the evening. The Men Working Were Super Unprofessional. Cursing and talking very vulgar. They went through my entire car searching for my wheel locks throwing stuff every where and getting oil and grim all over my seats. Then I noticed my $ 150 bose Bluetooth was missing. I will never go back there again and I truly hope karma comes to the individual who did that. I didn’t get his name but I remember him very specifically.

I got an oil change service at this Pep Boys recently. After about two days, I noticed an oil burning smell from my car and that my car’s engine temp gauge was getting high. I went to another shop and they showed me that the oil filter was damaged stating that who ever put the oil filter did not put the oil filter on properly. The shop I went to recommended that I get more oil from the original service and to get my car pressure washed. I called the Pep Boys to notify them of the issue, but they told me they were too busy to handle my car. I then set an appointment online. When I went to get my vehicle serviced, I told them the situation and showed them the damaged oil filter and the receipt of my service. They stated that the other shop could of been at fault and I should of went straight back to the Pep Boys, even though I noticed the issues before going to the other store. I’m dissatisfied with Pep Boy’s service and will never go there again. I have already filed my complaint to the Pep Boy’s main site.
Update 02/​27/​2016:
Manager called me to reimburse me for the service I had at the other shop. I hope there service improves.

Much appreciative of the services & people at this location. Got a flat tire at 7a on a Sunday. Once I got the car there, the mgrs quickly & accurately assessed I needed a new tire/​two for balance and found them as locally as possible. Their estimate on when the work would be complete was basically accurate and they cared and worked hard to get the job done. Very grateful.

The service here is top notch! Everyone is so friendly. I bought a battery and installation here about 8 months ago. A week ago my alternator went out and I had a family member replace it. Then my battery wouldn’t hold a charge so I brought it back to pep boys because it had been less than a year. They replaced it with a brand new battery at no charge no questions asked! And they tested the core of my old alternator just to make sure it was bad and it was. I will always bring my car here. Thanks Pep Boys in Rancho Cordova!

I’ve been here multiple times and I always get great customer service. I will not go anywhere else. I was going to autozone down the street but this place provides way better customer service than the autozone down the way. Keep it up !

I want to thank James, Darrin, and Steven for going out of their way to make sure my truck was done right. Company I work for has had problems with other pep boys getting things done right the first time probably cause the other stores don’t have employees that care about their job and their customers the way these three guys do. It’s too bad they work at a store that’s far away from were I live otherwise I would always take my truck there. Hell I would even take my own cars there. Thanks alot guys you guys took care of my truck like it was your own.

I made an appointment for 9am for an oil change, by almost 11am my car still was sitting in the parking lot. I finally said you know what I’m not waiting anymore, waited forever at the service desk, horrible service, I will never go there again.

Took my car in to get an oil change yesterday. When I arrived Iw aired about 15 minutes for help, which was fine I could see they were busy. There was literally none in the office until a lady came in and asked us how she could help. I told her I wanted a synthetic oil change, but that I did not want to purchase tires from her at this time She said no problem and was very nice and then told me the price would be 69.99 for the oil change. I asked if that was the final price and she said that was before tax. When I returned 4.5 hours later (which I had to call and verify my car was done, none called me to let me know) it was parked up front and read to be picked up. The gentleman who rang us up was the service manager for the shop. Not sure how he got this job because service was definitely not his specialty. He gave me the total and it was 92.55. I asked him how we arrived at 92.55 from 69.99 plus tax and he told me there was tax. 23 $ to uncle sam??? I told him the tax rate is 8.0% in Rancho Cordova so thats impossible. He then snickered at me and told me it was only $ 10 dollars. He threw up his hands and said he would take are of it for me if it was that big of a deal. His overall attitude was that I should be grateful for his terrible service and the $ 10 he saved me (EVEN THOUGH WE AGREED ON THAT PRICE UP FRONT AND IT WAS IN WRITING). No problem. We finally paid and were about to be on our way. My mom looked a the receipt and noticed it said they rotated the tires and charged me labor for it. She told the service manager we didn’t ask for that and he said it was part of the package deal. Fine we said and went on our way. Until we got to our car and noticed the TIRES WEREN“T ROTATED AT ALL. The front two were still the low tread tires that they recommended I replace when I came in, so theres no possible way they could have rotated them. We informed the «service manager» of their neglect to perform a service we were charged for. I told him not to worry about it we would never be back and that I would never bring any cars back to them again. He smiled! Note to all, check and double check your prices as well as make sure there aren’t cutting corners as it appears to me they are.

Took my truck here about a year ago to get the shocks and struts replaced. I didn’t realize until a year later (when they went out again), that not only did they use cheap parts, but they were the wrong parts!!! I took my truck to a different shop and they had found the work order and it clearly stated that they used v8 4Runner parts on a Tacoma. They only lasted a year, about 40,000 miles, the original shocks lasted 200,000 miles! I can say they were very nice and had good customer service, but used incorrect cheap parts.

It’s never good when you have to get work done on your car. Came in today hoping for just a brake job. Nope. Brakes and rotors. After approving the work, and about an hour into waiting, Ken came over saying the rotor is out of stock. It will cost 100 bucks more. It’s a way better rotor, but 100 bucks is a lot. Keen came back and said his manager is taking 20 bucks off each rotor. Overall, really good experience. Yes, they are slow. But, most repair places are. I an OK waiting the extra time for it to be done right.

By far the worst Auto Shop I have ever dealt with! They’re awfully slow, and extremely expensive. I had front breaks done last week. After consulting another mechanic, I was told that I was ripped off. Didn’t even get an option to have my rotors reshaped. They seem to always go for the most expensive options. I thought they were business worthy b/​c they had a 10% discount for Veterans. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who has a limited disposable income.

I was so disappointed. .I have been going there but this time different people and a horrible experience.
As my husband and I waited over an hour with an appointment watch 3 male employees just stand around with hands in there pockets and talk. terry being the worst slug of all. The only good one was a woman at the register. But not even her could make me go back. I will never give them my money again! I would love to let the owner know but no survey on the receipt I looked. Sincerely very disappointed.
Only there for a simple oil change

Below is my review from earlier this morning. I bumped my rating back up and I wanted to commend Jason the service manager for taking the time to contact me about the situation and re-​assure me he takes my service experience seriously and apologized for the delay. My arrival time was 8:45, I departed at 11:18 for a serious flat repair in multiple spots that would have only been a temporary fix and that eventually i opted for a new tire. So thanks Jason for taking the time, I appreciate you reaching out to your customers.
«Nice people but terribly understaffed. It has been a 2 hour wait for a flat repair and still not done. Bring your pillow and a good book or better yet try Americas tire or Les Schwab. I have never had a problem there.»

They are amazing! I came in with a dead battery and they helped me change it right away! They had 3 other people on their way to check their battery as well, but they managed to fit me in their busy schedule and finish right before closing time!

Walked in — Rude Customer service, felt like the guy drew too many assumptions beforehand about customers, and would not treat customers happily.
I was going to give them 1 start but I upped the rating to 2 star because, because guy realized and understood where I was coming from inquiring about pricing because I booked appointment online, so he was nice enough to look for coupon when I went back to pick up vehicle, which I really appreciated. Part of the fault is their online system does not really correlate with their instore computer system, which can be frustrated for both customers and employees.
Will I go back? No.

Was here 3 times this week and the guys were always very nice and helpful. Tristan was great to work with!

**DON’T EVER, I MEAN DON’T EVER GO TO THIS PEP BOYS LOCATION***
I went to this location today at 12pm, for my appointment, and didn’t leave until 1:20pm for them to tell me «I don’t know what’s wrong, I can’t find the issue. We won’t be able to know what it is until we take everything apart» I went in to have my front suspension checked and I’m still trying to figure out why I left with ABSOLUTELY no information on the noises that I’ve been hearing and other people riding in my car has heard as well. Then they have the audacity to charge $ 19.99 for an inspection!!! Pssh, they didn’t get my $ 20. I should have known it was going to go down hill when myself and the mechanic went on a test drive and he was trying to listen to my car over the plastic bag, he was sitting on, that was making noise SMH. (so he didn’t get my car dirty).
If you want to keep you sanity, DO NOT go to this Pep Boys thinking you’re going to get a legit answer.
Like everyone says, I should have read the reviews; they’re not even worth one star!!!
