Co-workers took me to Akbar Palace for the lunch buffet. The buffet was great. It has tons of options that are all clearly labeled and describe the dish. I do not eat Indian cuisine all that often so the buffet style is perfect for me. I get to try different dishes and see what I like. The buffet itself has plenty of vegetarian options as well as five or six different meat dishes. The buffet was just under $ 10 a person(if you only drink water). The restaurant is very nice and you are given cloth napkins and there are tablecloths on the table. But for lunch coming in casual is fine! At one point a server came around and even offered the fresh naan bread that had just come out rather than simply placing it on the buffet. I thought that was great — it’s the little things that make your service experience stand out!

We had an excellent dinner. I ordered Channa Palak, my son had Chicken Palak and my husband had Chicken Vindaloo. All were fantastic! The service was prompt and cordial. We highly recommend this restuarant.

The food was terrific and the service was topnotch. Don’t judge this place by its payday loan/thrift shop neighbors, or even by its seen-better-days facility — the cooking is better than much fancier places in upscale neighborhoods. Hands down the best Indian chow in the Baltimore ‘burbs. It was so tasty, in fact, that I couldn’t bear to dock the place a star for the terribad incense they had going on the bar. My clothes were still reeking the next morning. People with perfume sensitivities will have to ask if the incense can be extinguished, or they’ll miss out on truly good food.

I love this place. I ordered my food to go but the staff was extremely polite and helpful. When I entered I was warmly greeted by the hostess and sent back to the cashier where I order my food. I had the Chicken Vindaloo and it filled my belly with JOY! Very flavorful, the right amount of spices it was just perfect. I will be returning!!!

Akbar is one of my favorite restaurants. The Chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite thing on the menu, but I have never had anything that I didn’t love. The servers are always friendly and accommodating. My boyfriend loves spicy food, while I like things medium, and they are always willing to give him extra hot sauce, to the point where we now get it without asking(we go here a lot). The owner remembers us, and always comes and greets us. It is a worth while experience.

We enjoyed our food. Lamb Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala. We used the Unilocal coupon for 2 free Ras Malai, also very good. Service very friendly.

This restaurant is a place I have been going for years. The food is always quality. The service is always with a smile carryout or during dine in. The staff is friendly. On my last visit the waiter was explaining some customs relayed to dating where they are from. I love learning about other cultures so that proved to be a great experience beyond the food served. I will go there again and soon.

Good lamb and chicken dishes. A good find in our neighborhood. Very reasonable price. Dinner for two was only $ 46. Will come again

Really excellent choices, plenty of vegetarian options. The Sarson Ka Sang(mustard greens) earned a comment from my son, «I have never eaten anything that looked so bad and tasted so good». The vindaloo and masala dishes are equally stunning. The location may not be the prettiest street, but don’t let that stop you from coming in to enjoy and have a Taj Mahal.

My family and I came here for dinner after my college graduation. I was worried because it was my first time coming here and I didn’t want to invite people to a restaurant with bad food. Well, I had no reason to worry because the food was amazing. The nine of us shared the Goat Curry, Lamb Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, the Chicken Biryani, and Garlic Naan. EVERYTHING was delicious! Not only that, the services was great as well. I will definitely be back for their buffet.

Average food at best, I went based on the reviews and was extremely dissapointed in the food. I found the food to be very bland and basic nothing more.

Spot on food(we had the lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala). Service was prompt and friendly. The owner came out at one point to make sure everything was good and he was super nice. We’d definitely come back here again if we were in the area.

Now I understand why this place has so many terrific reviews. All the food here is really delicious, portions are rather large and reasonably priced. I ordered the Vegetarian Thali which includes samosa, dal, mix vegetables, palak paneer, raita & nan or poori & choice of either kheer or gulab jaman. All of the food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. On a slightly down note, I started off with a mulligatawny soup, that was eh… not bad, but it paled in comparison to the rest of the meal. Service here was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent menu with perfectly prepared typical Indian dishes. Don’t let the check cashing place and the Thrift Mart dissuade you from stopping in for dinner. Generously poured good wine at a good price. Enthusiastic and proud service.

I came back here with my daughter & one of my friends for dinner. We got the 2 person dinner that included all you can eat chicken, lamb, & vegetable with your choice of sauce for each. To top it off, you get a free dessert! For $ 40 you really can’t beat that. The food was delicious!!! I swear, this place consistently serves GREAT food! The servers were sooo nice & the customer service was top notch. They were so nice & gave my daughter some left over party favors from a bar mitzvah they had recently. My daughter had a blast with some little light rings & a pair of sunglasses, she sported her new digs while she ate her dinner. I keep coming back to this place because their food is so good & the service is the best!

Akbar Palace has remained unchanged for years now, but it still hits the spot. The location isn’t ideal, but for carryout orders it doesn’t really matter. The staff is always friendly; the gentleman manning the carryout orders consistently provides comedic relief. The menu is what you would expect from an Indian restaurant, with excellent renderings of the Americanized classics including chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, butter chicken, and tandoori chicken. The chicken tikka has a wonderfully warm flavor, having great hints of spice which make it flavorful — not spicy. The dish comes with a generous amount of that rich tomato/cream sauce we are familiar with, maybe a bit too much sauce, but it’s perfect for dipping garlic naan into. Saag(a pureed spinach dish with your choice of protein) never looks appetizing, but Akbar’s rendition is great. The spinach has a smooth consistency with the perfect amount of spice and richness. The braised lamb is perfect with the spinach. If you’re ordering a couple dishes, make sure one of them is the Shahjehani Biryani — a slow cooked rice dish with chicken, nuts, raisins and with saffron flavors. The dish is perfect to be paired with the other saucy dishes mentioned above. For some reason, by the time your said and done ordering Indian food, it usually is a bit more expensive than ordering Chinese. The experience though is worth it though, and the prices are still very reasonable for the amount of food you get — most entrees being between $ 13 – 17. There is also an all you can eat lunch buffet offered as well. I personally have not been yet, but I have heard good things. Thanks Akbar.
